Moving to Indy! What area should I move to?

I may be relocating from MI to Indy. Shucks right lol. The relocation is painless since I will finally be in sprint car country. Guys please help me out. What is the area I should be looking for? East?West? What? Im excited about it now. Bloomington, THAT, the newer LPS, of course Kokomo and Gas City. Instead of driving 4 hours to the mile and then the lil 5!!! Any tips on good neighborhoods would be appreciated. Thank you, Steve

Re: Moving to Indy! What area should I move to?

Carmel, Fishers, Fortville to the north, Greenfield to the east, plainfield to west and greenwood on the southside are all good, I would say depends on how much you have to spend and where you will be working, if money is no object then check out Geist, you can pick up something nice on the lake for a few mil....lol Brownsburg is good also, close into town check out Speedway, not too bad an area and I think there's a track within walking distance that holds a somewhat famous open wheel race every may......Clemont is IRP and not far out, also avon etc. seriously, lots of decent places around/in Indy

Re: Moving to Indy! What area should I move to?

A lot will depend on what exactly you want in a house? The higher end of Indianapolis will be Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, Westfield, Zionsville and Greenwood area. These will be the more expensive places to live, taxes, home prices, cost of living, etc. If you are concerned about schools you will definately want to look into these areas since they also contain some of the better school corporations.

Some of the areas out of the city would include Plainfield, Greenfield, New Palestine, Mooresville, Avon, Brownsburg, Lebanon, Shelbyville; all of which would offer a little longer commute to the downtown area. Also depends on where you will be working? If that isn't an issue, any and all of the above would be great places to live. Plenty of homes for sale in the area so it should be a buyers market. Good luck and welcome to the land of Hoosiers.:3:

Being a Realtor I can help you to either find you a place to rent or buy. The westside of Indy has always been the racer's side of town. My regular email is shodges@callcarpenter if I can help you in any way.

Its really going to depend on where you're working and what you can afford. Traffic is something else you might want to think about too. The area where 69 and 465 meet can be a real nightmare.

Re: Moving to Indy! What area should I move to?

Noblesville is a good location for getting to most of the tracks. Gas City, Kokomo, Eldora without battling Indy traffic. Bloomington and Paragon are a bit of a challenge. Not bad getting to Terre Haute, Lawrenceburg and Putnamville. Nice area for middle and upper income price ranges, but taxes are a bit steep and its on the I69 corrider. There's exceptions, but a good rule of thumb is to stay outside of 465.

Speedway is a good central location to everything.

Re: Moving to Indy! What area should I move to?

We just left Plainfield after 30 years. It is a nice town, clean, well run, and has very good schools. Relatively low taxes and good home values. It has good access to all the major interstates except I-65 South. I would agree with upanddn....with the exception of Speedway, stay outside of I-465.

Re: Moving to Indy! What area should I move to?

Plainfield....I hear it's a pretty nice little place. haha, it's where I call home and it's a nice mix of big city shops but in a small town. If you ever visit give "the coachman" a try, my local eatery and watering hole. EXIT 66 off of I-70.

Re: Moving to Indy! What area should I move to?

I don't live in Indy but I thinks Mooresville is a nice community that has many tracks within a nice drive of it (THAT, Bloomington, LPS, ORP, IMS, Paragon, Twin Cities, Brownstown, etc.)

Just from an out-of-towner that has been hanging around Indy for over 50+ years.:6:

Re: Moving to Indy! What area should I move to?

I would try to stay in Morgan Co. It is the county south west of Indy and has the cheapest tax rates around the area. The Mooresville school system is pretty good. Short commute (10 to 15 minutes) to 465 and easy interstate access to just about all the tracks. Home prices are not too bad either.

Thank you all very much for the replies. A big help! Even got a realtor connection! I dont have any kids. Getting around Indy takes a lot of time. If I want to drive back to MI, I'd like to be able to easily. I'll know in a week if i am moving. Thanks again guys.

Hey I have a 5 year old house for sale West of Lebanon( in the country, 2 acres, lower property taxes). 8 minutes from us65 and 7 minutes from us 74. 35 minutes from lps, 75 minutes from Terre Haute, 90 minutes from Gas City, and Bloomington. Let me know if you are interested.

I would move somewhere around the 10th of May and just pitcha tent inside the IMS speedway. You couldn't go wrong there.

Honestly, I would go with the realtor. He/She knows your an open wheel fan and knows the area. Treat you nice.

Re: Moving to Indy! What area should I move to?

Brownsburg IN, alot of sprint teams have their shops in this area as well as IRP and the IMS and you can eat the Best BBQ around at the Pit Stop BBQ & Grill all the racers eat there. never know who you will run into there, Stanbrough, Coons, The Demon, Kuhn, Hagen, etc John Force was even in the other night, there is even a real vintage sprinter and Midget in the restaurant.

Out of curiosity would the DS you thanked be David Steele?

I would say the Brownsburg, Whitestown, Zionsville area. Very nice area and within an 1 - 1 1/2 hour drive to most tracks other then the burg and hobstadt (however you spell it)
