Edwards gets a spanking
NASCAR president Mike Helton on Tuesday announced Sprint Cup driver Carl Edwards has been placed on probation for the next three Sprint Cup races as a result of Edwards intentionally wrecking Brad Keselowski this past Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Helton said the decision came "after meeting and discussing the events Sunday evening, all day Monday and [Tuesday] morning." Helton added that an additional meeting "that was still being set" would be arranged between NASCAR officials, team owners Jack Roush and Roger Penske and the two drivers. Re: Edwards gets a spanking
What a joke.
I'm just glad the local racing season is set to get started. I won't have to rely on the circus for a racing fix. |
Re: Edwards gets a spanking
Let face it, the bottom line for NASCAR is that no one got hurt and yes here we are in the middle of the week almost and everybody is still talking about it from forums to news media etc. How much talk was there about the Vegas or Calif. races, non. This is what sells the tickets and gets people to watch the races on TV, that is what NASCAR wants until there is a serious injury to a driver or spectator.

I'm sure glad Helton is not a judge or district attorney in my locale.:17: |
Re: Edwards gets a spanking
Wow, Probation for intentionally wrecking someone where driver and fans could get injured or worse. INTENTIONALLY and Carl admits it but says I didn't plan to get him upside down.
Until they start taking hundreds of thousands out of the drivers pockets. Like a five race suspension to the driver (Another driver could drive the car) Nothing will change. Stewart gets half a season Probation for bashing goodyear. This is a joke. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_4I12wwBIE |
Re: Edwards gets a spanking
Nascar did not clearly define a "little bump here little bump there" is okay this year. You settle this when the cars are stopped. Let them beat the crap out of each other...who cares...not doing 200mph. Probation Whats that? Everybody has been placed on probation...Nascar officials once again no spine. Same ol' Nascrap...bring on the sprinters!

Well the deal worked as Entertainment tonight is running a story on the deal right now.

Re: Edwards gets a spanking
Seems to be more of a hand slap than a spanking.
BTW. I loved it. NASCAR had gotten way to PC. I enjoy the fact that Cousin Carl dumped him, and did not hide the fact. Brad is a punk. However, the car getting in the air was way scary. I still find it humerous that NASCAR does not believe the rear wing caused the uplift. |
Re: Edwards gets a spanking
That was no handslap, that was a pat on the back.

Re: Edwards gets a spanking
I would think, at some expense level, both the car owners and sponsors will say enough.

Re: Edwards gets a spanking
I for the life of me cannot figure out how Harvick got set down for a race, yet he was driving a truck if I remember right and caused a little wreck.

Re: Edwards gets a spanking
Why does there seem to be such a collective dislike of BK? The kid seems like the only real deal in the circuit right now - he has an edgy, down to earth personality and wins races in cars owned by Finch and Dale Jr, and is making that 12 go. If you think about it - who has he mixed it up with? Denny Hamlin? Kyle Busch? and now Carl Edwards? Arguably the three biggest ****** bags to ever drive in the sport? (JPM doesnt count; that guy is mad at the world.)
BK seems more like a peoples champ than a villian - you don't really see him mixing it up with the 'good guys'... I guess time will tell. One more thought: A lot of complaining about NASCAR and yet a lot of discussion about it. It may have some circus surrounding it, but its still racing - and most of those guys are still racers. Just tune into the race and stay off the gossip sites and you'd be surprised how entertaining it still is. (especially if you can listen to it on MRN, which I can not living in Australia) |

The worst thing will be when this sort of thing gets the bureaucrats involved. Knock on wood.

Re: Edwards gets a spanking
:34: All I have to say is that Cousin Carl ought to be thanking his lucky stars that Jack Hewitt isn't the driver of the #12. :33: The history between the two wouldn't have gotten this far because Cousin Carl would have had a black eye after the first incident.
Now that I think about it the stupid Junior Miller from the Madhouse show is someone else who also needs a bit of Hewitt justice. |
Re: Edwards gets a spanking
This is just another example of what a JOKE NASCAR has become. Think back to last May. Carl Long was caught with an engine that was 0.17 cubic inches above the legal limit of 358 at the All-Star race. He was suspended 12 races, docked 200 points (even though the All Star race is a non point race) and his team was fined $200,000.00. Switch place with Edwards (or any other big name driver on a big name team) and Long (or any other field filler on an under funded team). If Long had hit Keselowski like Edwards did, he would have been parked for half the season if not the full season, been heavily fined and put on probation. Likewise, if Edwards was caught with an engine that was 0.17 over the legal limit at a non points race, his crew chief would be suspended, they would have been hit with a fine (probably no where what Long's was), the team would be put on "JOKE" probation and the team would not have lost points. Once again, NASCAR is nothing more than a JOKE these days.
