Is everyone ok ?

Man we had some weather here in Kokomo, the wind is still strong and it is snowing now. Just checking to see if everybody is ok. (P.S. it is Tuesday night 1/29/2008)

We're ok so far here in Marion, Jerry but Bill Gardner had a possible tornado hit his graphics shop in Greencastle. Took half the shop right down to the cement floor.

Here in Vermillion County we have had numerous trees blown over with power outages. I am the dispatcher here at the Sheriff's Dept. and I just now have been able to catch my breath. Also glad to report no injuries or major damage.

Thanks Jerry for caring

Is Bill ok? We had some straight line winds, hail and a lot of rain. The wind was the strongest I have seen in a long time. If there is any news on Bill let us know.

A tornado that touched down in Clermont came within a 1/4 mile of my house. It hit McGilverys during Don Kay's show blowing out a window, blew the dish off their roof and damaged cars in the parking lot. The show resumed after everyone cleaned out their shorts :D No one was hurt. That should be a good archive to watch once it gets up on the website. Shingles from the funeral home across the street were everywhere.

Rain changing over to snow as I type this here in Anderson. Wind is howling and temperature is dropping. It looks like the worst is over here in Central Indiana. I hope Bill is okay!

Re: Is everyone ok ?

West Central Illinois came through okay. The area south of Interstate 72 got hit. Funnel Cloud near Pleasant Plains, and one near Flora. Lots os tree and hail reports.

Temp dropped 44 degree in 6 hours in Peoria, amazingly no sever weather there.

At one point the barometric pressure was as low as 29.17 inches in Peoria. That is extremely low for a land based storm system. Luckily this thing came through in the winter and not the summer or we would have had a hell of a storm in the Eastern US.

This is bad enough as it is now.

Bill is fine, Jerry. The tornado or straightline wind, whatever, leveled about half the shop he said.

Was without power for an hour and my neighbors (2 houses away) gas grill is on my patio. But all appears to be fine....so far. It's still blowing pretty good though.

Looking for Agar to come on the board and give a report on Brazil. I'm in Florida for the winter. We had tornadoes and strong winds here about 10 days ago. Last year in January a tornado came through this area of Florida and killed some 14 people about 25 miles away.

Jerry,
County was chasing some rotation in the clouds around Russiaville (sp), but I think we just got an big blast of wind in town. Most of the bad stuff died out over Howard County for some reason (Thankfully). THat radar image covering the entire state look pretty bad. Then came the cold and froze all the roads over. It took me 35 minutes to get from the station to Family Video on Southway and then back home out on Old Sycamore. Usually would take 15 min tops. THis wind is crazy strong!!

Wish Bill the best in recovering from the damage.

I'm sitting here in Clinton, IA in the middle what was supposed to be blizzard like conditions. However back home in Olney, IL sounded like many trees and power lines down. That's all I know at this point. Heard report of a possible tornado near Newton, IL as well.

the storm destroyed half of our sign & graphics shop. Our shop is located at Brian Hayden's home just northeast of Greencastle... Brian told me... it was a tornado. Trees with roots and all were sucked right out of the ground. It is something you really got to see in person... Pictures don't do it justice.

Thankfully everyone is ok... there is just building damage.

Here are some photos of our shop... Our shop is the grey building.

The Slab of concrete that is left... This slab of concrete is 50 ft. x 50 ft.

I heard that a billboard fell on a gas station in Terre Haute, IN. Here on the far east side of Indy we didn't have much damage, it may have lsot some strength by the time it reached here. Waiting for round two tomorrow. Sounds like we may have more ice & sleet here instead of snow.

We had 74mph winds here in Evansville. A confirmed tornado hit Posey, Gibson and possibly northwest Vanderburgh County. An 83 year old woman and her 57 year old daughter were killed near Poseyville, IN when their mobile home was destroyed. I understand there will be video on the NBC national news this evening.
Only thing that happened at my home was my patio furniture was blown over and a few big sticks in my yard. No big deal.

Yes, confirmed tornado in Posey/Gibson County by the NWS. My entire town (Fort Branch) has been without power since yesterday. Over 75 lines snapped....

The good news is based on my drive-by Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt (Gibson County) suffered no damage from all appearances. However, pretty decent structural damage throughout Poseyville, Haubstadt & Fort Branch. My neighbor's roof was in my driveway this morning....

down here in Cincinnati, the wind blew over a 75ft BP sign and post. It landed right on the windshield area of a pickup truck and folded it in half. The owner of the truck and his fiance had just gotten out of it a couple minutes before the sign came down.

Tornados in the middle of winter too? That's not making it any easier to get my friends to move back there. I thought avalanches and 30' of snow blocking I-90 on Snoqualmie Pass was bad.

Glad you guys are OK.

I was going in as you were leaving, the trip to the Waste Water Treatment plant was a treat and I do not live that far away.
I am glad everybody made it ok, Bill I am glad no one was hurt.

The sky this morning (Thursday) has that look that it has when things are going to get ugly, hold on everybody and be careful. :respect:

Our street department is not very proactive....they wait till we call them before they come in and of course we are all macho cops that can drive better than anyone....so It is usually pretty bad before one of us will radio dispatch to tell them they waited long enough now get out here and go to work.

Its like they dont get the weather channel or something?

Re: Is everyone ok ?

We are all OK with a temp around 80 or a little more. Just waiting for most of the snowbirds to arrive at Barberville FL next week.

I have offered to call the foreman on call and let them know when the weather turns bad but the idea made to much sense and was shot down. How about today, there was a lot of people pi#$ed off because they will not plow the street and then salt, putting a bunch of salt down and then not clearing the street was not very popular at all this morning.
I say bring Fred Granson back at the Street Department. (or Areo.)
