Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
Again, Thanks! Anyone know if 3/4 is to go any higher? Just seems uneven but maybe it's just me.
Yes that top of 1-2 is at gutter level of them buildings. Chuck, seems like the top of 3/4 is where the pitwall was. |
Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
The dirt that was trucked in and dumped in back of the pit area late last season is still untouched. I understood that was the dirt that would become the new racing surface. If so, the banks may rise even higher yet. If not.......I got bad information.

Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
Marv, Your correct, The (HILL) is the surface clay, Came from the same place last seasons clay came from. Just outside E Town
Still amazes me, Can't wait for April (Who'd of thunk 8 years ago that we'd have racing in April. Some years didn't get off the ground till mid June. Chuck, If he'd just put the fifty fifty girl up there, Im sure he'd find some buyers. |
Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
The thing that hits me is the elevation change that is going on in 1/2.It must be 15 ft.higher than originally. When the seating in that area is reassembled that is going to be some view. The photos do not do this project justice.Where I usually shoot in turn 2 is like walking up a wall with the new banking. It is going to be FAST.Cannot wait..Bob Sell

Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
just went down this afternoon. it is "HIGH" banked with long straights!

Bob. I get the feeling some of that steepness will not be there once the fill (Surface clay) is put down. It's gonna have to be about 6ft deep in the Dish just to get a / from top to bottom. No way they could race on that banking the way it is. Thanks againf or the photos, I too can't believe how high 1-2 are. WOnder how much work they got before they can do the wall? I sure hope they bank the wall with the banking of the track. Take care Chuck |
Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
Charles, I agree with you. Dave says the banking is only going to be 15 degrees which should make for some good racing. At least two grooves? It also looks like the straight will be up against the wall on the front stretch.
|
Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
Yea Charles that is my take on it too.Once surface is put down that should take some of bank down. What I also am impressed with is the width of track. It looked today like they are focused on getting drainage system in right now.looks like the project with drains in back of grandstand is well on its way also. With nice weather forecast work should go well.Bob

Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
Thanks for your pics too Ricky. From what Im seeing the back straight will be higher than the front. Im not sure. I know they aren't done yet but you can clearly see a track now. The whole back straight is raised about 10ft as well with the highest being turn 2
Thats why I was wondering if they still had some more to raise around 3/4. Must have been what they were doing last tuesday as it was bitter cold. They were mostly removing spoil piles (Big Rocks and assorted concrete in the mix). They were hauling dirt out of the Ditch Project and dumping in the cornfield behind the Moto Pit's. Im also wondering if the City got that land as I know they were looking to add more pit room to the track(S). Two months :) Chuck |
Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
...And some people thought the 'Burg was too fast for the MSCS show in Sep.? Wait until April!
|
Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
It looks like that to me also Charles,The new pits are next to bike track and extends to flood wall.Excavation was started on that also.Looks like new frontstretch wall will be put in soon, all the rebar was under grandstand today
|
Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
Chuck,
As of a couple of weeks ago they will still working with the Conservation district to acquire more land for the pits. It sounded like it was going to go, they just had some details to work out. The boy and I went down on Saturday and I agree that they have some work to do to make 3 and 4 equal to 1 and 2. I think that they will be raising the infield some also. We are definitely looking forward to some racing. Take care all, Shane |
Re: Lawrenceburg Construction

Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
I'm giving up my annual opening day USAC Show at Eldora, to be at Lawrenceburg April 19th for the USAC Show. This track is going to be awesome and its' going to add a little spice to the Indiana bull rings. I wish I called Lawrenceburg home......Good job Dave...:thumb
Can;t wait for April 19th...... |
Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
My hope is that Dave has two or three practices on it. Plus the first nights racing before the USAC show. That or have that Sheepsfoot dozer make a thousand laps.
Was about the fourth week when the track really came in top to bottom last year, The night of the FAMOUS GAINES/PETTY SHOOTOUT where I bet in the feature they were breaking the track record repeatedly and both were so fast that a bobble by the leader took both out. I think the banking and shape of the track is gonna add a lot more into not only two or three groves but crossovers into and out of the turns. Just got word three and four are being raised some more and that it's unlikely you could see the much of the track from the top of a hauler. Chuck |

Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
Was down at Haag Ford Saturday getting the car worked on and stopped at the track on the way home. As I stood in the Grandstand and looked at the track I felt as if I was looking at the building of a minature Eldora. This place is going to be FAST. I do however have doubts that it is going to be done on time. I'll keep my fingers crossed. :applaud:
|
Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
I would expect the track to be ready. They are, of course, at the mercy of the weather. If not ready it won't be for a lack of effort, that's for sure.
|
Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
Looks Like The Contractors Will Be Working Around The Clock To Get It Done. Even With That We Need A Serious Weather Change Around Here. Thanks For The Pics Bob.....:)
|
Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
Weather has been about normal, maybe even a little on the mild side! These type of projects never seem to be completed on time, and the contractors always blame the weather.
Looks like the changes are a huge improvement, looking foreward to going to the Burg. |
Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
Even though those are really good photos, until you see the new Burg in person, you really have no idea how much has been done there. How it's NOTHING AT ALL like the old Burg. I had seen others post to that effect, but was really blown away when I saw it in person. The things that especially stand out are:
1) Just how high banked it is now. It will be in Eldora's class, in terms of banking. 2) The sheer amount of the Earth's surface that has been relocated there. The top of the turns are literally as high, if not higher, than the top of the grandstands that were in the turns. I'm not commenting on what I think the quality of racing will be. Just the "Day and Night" difference between new and old. And it is stark. Check it out for yourself. It was worth the trip for us. Jerry |
Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
Was Told Today By One Of The Workers That Sunday Should Be The Last Day For Hauling In Dirt. I Asked If They Will Be Done In Time And He Just Scratched His Head.
|
Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
Oh Yea, They Are Working 7 Days A Week Until They Are Done.

Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
Thanks Bob Sell and others for taking pictures and putting them online. I did take some of my own and put the on the Lawrenceburg Speedway website for viewing and a update. Unfortunatly the pictures are kinda small on the website. I greatly appreciate everyones patience on this huge undertaking of the new track. As Jerry Shaw mentioned, Its a really big project. Its not just as simple as moving dirt and stretching the track. The entire facility is undergoing a major renovation. What these constuction crews have done in a short time and in the winter months is unbelievable. Whenever construction is done there is always the question of when will it be completed. Well i would like to say the answer to that but the truth of the matter is nobody knows.
The project is scheduled to be completed April 1st and you all know what day that is...lol. We will all just have to wait and see. Everyone involved are working as hard as possible to meet this deadline. The finished work will be worth the wait. I am told we will be ready to have a practice the 1st week in April. Also some of the final touches will be completed as the season is already underway. Thanks for your time, Dave Rudisell |
Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
I was in the grandstand Friday and the place is a 150 MPH race track! I only have one question, the wall in one and two drops at least 10 ft coming down the back stretch. looks like you will run down hill then back up hill in turn 3. Don't see how this place will be done by 4/1 but like a famous politition, i hope it is..ha. Can't wait to put a car out there !!

Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
Just updated site as of 3/2, Most recent shots are on pages 5/6.Crews were working in heavy rain.No lack of effort here on construction crews part,They just need a break in this wet weather. We sure could of used this rain last summer.http://pbase.com/bob_sell

Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
Was I too soon, I still see snow on them photos, I didn't see a page 6 yet. Thanks for posting the photos, I can't wait till may.
|
Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
if you hit show all, there are like three new pictures from today but there is no page six and they don't show up on page five.
Weird Chuck |
Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
Hey Dave, Is The Reason Why There Is Still A Lot Of Water In The Middle Of The Track Is Because The Drainage Project Is Not Finished. I Know It's Been A While Since I've Seen Water Like That In The Infield. It Also Looks Like The First 10 Rows Of The Bleachers Won't Be Used Because The Wall Is So High. Good Thing Fish Sits In The 11th Row.:)
|
Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
Its called 15 inches of snow, Followed by 7 inches of rain and a unlandscaped and probably unpowered pump system yet.
Things will come together in the next two weeks. Doesn't mean it will be done by then but it will be much closer to RACEABLE than it is now.. Chuck |

Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
Had to meet up with dad this morning, Stopped by this afternoon.
WOW! Somebody lit a fire! The wall is 3/4ths done with only the entry to the track near the pit grandstand and the giant wall outside the restroom to be completed. The light pole project is at a craw but the track has four ft of water in the center. They will have to pump it out. That being said, You could still race two wide in the straights and three wide in the corners :). Think Bob was down there taking photos. Won't be long, Three or four weeks is my guess. Maybe sooner, who knows. |
Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
Updated photos from Saturday 3/29 are on site http://pbase.com/bob_sell Pages 7 thru 9..Bob

Re: Lawrenceburg Construction
It's going to be a great place to race ,looks like its going to be fast . And if the rain keep coming they can stock it with bass and bluegill and charge too fish from the bleachers , heck of a fishing spot , its going to be a great track can't wait :Steer:checkered:
