Tracks Working Together...Idea

Im stealing this from two tracks in Illinois.

The only two feasable tracks that could do this would be either Gas City and Lawrenceburg, or Bloomington and Lawrenceburg

But two tracks in Illinois are paying an extra $10,000 to a driver that can win both track championships in one year.

Besides Stanbrough, who do you think could pull off the feat if two tracks here did that sort of thing.

If last year was an indication, Billy Puterbaugh could get it done.

I think that would be a great idea!

If it were Bloomington and Lawrenceburg, I'd say Briscoe would be a good pick if he ran both for points. Not saying he couldn't do it at Gas city but making the tow to Bloomington Friday and then the Burg on Sat. would be easier than Gas City to me anyway. :thumb:

I think Gas City and Kokomo would be a good pair. Less than an hour apart and most of their regulars run both tracks. I think they would have to make their tire rules the same first though. That would be a good way to give the local racers who support those tracks a shot at some extra money. I've often been under the impression that it would take nothing less than a Festivus Miracle to get promotors to work together.

I agree. Kokomo and Gas city would be the logistical choice for the north and Lawerenceburg and Bloomington in the southern half. Then after the "points" season is over, they could have a 2 race mini "state championship" and they could alternate tracks each year. Say Gas City and Bloomington one year, then Kokomo and Lawerenceburg the next year. Just dreaming in the wintertime...

It's nice to think about but the reality is we already have a glut of special shows. ISW, KISS, MSCS $10K to win, and a couple of memorial races such as the Dick Gaines race. How deep could the average fan dig in his/her pockets to go to all of these? I would rather see a sponsor get involved with ISW and make each show $10K to win and a grand to start with a sizable point fund.

From Jim Morrison
How about a payout like this for winning the USAC Border Wars???

Agreed. The point is I just don't think the average fan can pay to see more special shows. Enhance the ones we already have.

Why don't all of you IOW people find sponsers and or fork out the cash and make it the IOW doubler? Come on now $10k would not be that hard to raise between now and the end of points season. Heck I'll even give the first $100! :checkered:

Back in the 70s in Western PA, three tracks went together every weekend. The promoters at Lernerville, Mercer, and Tri-City put in $100 each and if a one driver could sweep the Friday/Saturday/Sunday weekend he got the $300.

Don Hammer is doing quite a bit there at Farmer City and Lincoln, $5,000 for somebody to the same feat in the modifieds as well. Plus he's bringing a two day show for $20,000 to win at Farmer City which I believe is the highest paying late model race ever in IL. Something like this in Indiana would certainly be interesting.

Re: Tracks Working Together...Idea

Those two tracks just guaranteed themselves a great car count every week. If two tracks did that around here they would really hurt the sanctioning bodies around here. Local racers couldnt pull away to go run the big shows in there area. So it is a great idea for tracks to guarantee car counts. But it is not the greatest thing for the bigger paying events at other tracks. Kinda of a catch 22 for the sport.

I know it would require the promotors to work together again, but maybe they could avoid scheduling points races on nights when they know there is a big event in the area on the same night.

It seems unlikely that they would make it past the airing of grievances. "I got a lot of problems with you people! And now you're going to hear about it."
