Kimb Stewart in '08?

Has anybody heard where Kimb Stewart will be in '08? IMO she is one of the best.

in your opinion...

lets all remember, being informed and having historical information doesnt necessarily equal great.

heres a question, does anyone know who will be the replacement at the burg?

I'd like to know as well, I too thought Kim was a pretty darn good announcer. I'm sure she will end up somewhere better.

Re: Kimb Stewart in '08?

Kimb is very good and likeable and I think trying to do everything herself made things a little incomplete. Announcing lineups and doing color both, Well somthing always seemed to be left out or running late.

IMHO she was best as a team with Klepper or someone where she could provide background and info durring slow times while someone else would announce lineups BEFORE it pushed off.

Very thourough, charming and nice to me. I have nothing but respect for her and hope she does well in whatever she chooses to do, or ends up at.

Gregg, our name isn't the only thing we have in common. I think she is one of the best as well. I guess some people would rather have Bubba Bo.:kookoo2:

I fully expect to see her at least a couple times at Raceway Park. Hopefully she will land somewhere reasonably close for weekly shows.

This is exactly what's wrong with this forum...

A person asks an honest question, and two miscreants with limited posting history sound off with negative comments about a person who has probably twice the passion for this sport than these two fools combined.

I don't care what you say, there is no reason for this kind of public disparaging of a person. She may not be your cup of tea, but you don't have to say unkind things about her in a public forum. This is irresponsible behavior on the part of these two guys here, who both are guilty of saying negative things without having the courage to even sign their names to it. I question their brass because of it. To me, they are merely cowards firing at people from the darkness.

Oh, for the record, Kimb Stewart is an engaging personality who strives for greatness in an announcing booth. She works hard at what she does, and for that, deserves respect and admiration for her efforts. We must remember that some people will never respect her simply because of her gender. Which is appalling, to say the least. I defy any person who is critical of her skills as an announcer (save for her peers) to go up there and give it a try themselves. I seriously doubt they'd be half as proficient as she is at announcing an auto race. Because coming from a person who wishes he had the ability she has to inform a crowd of people, I admire her greatly. She does a good job. Especially when you consider that she has only been around the sport a decade or so. How did she get into the position she's in, in such a short time? She clearly wants it more than YOU. Any racetrack in Indiana would be lucky to have her in their booth.

Enough said.

Dean is spot on! You beat me to it! I can not sign my name for buissness reasons, but, regardless I would never take shots from the weeds at any person. Ms. Stewart is a nice young lady, she loves racing. She has a fantastic personality! As Dean mentioned, you may not like her style, but why take shots at such a nice young lady. Why be that kind of person? What do you see when you look in the mirror, are you proud to be the person looking back?

I agree your entitled to your opinion but without a name behind it. It's like Mr. Mills said, A pot shot. and thats the real dead horse on this board.

If you can't back up what your saying without a name and reasons, I think they should be deleted imediately.

Everyone including myself can have improvment, No matter a organization, announcer, promotor or what not but simple SHE SUCKS statements or Their goes that organizations credibility post without background on it is really classless.

Chuck, who had been critical of several things about Kimb but always gave reasons when doing so and it was always constructive critisizm, not bashing.

One need only take a look at the way in which you represent yourself with your comments, and the way I present mine to come to the conclusion that your opinion is invalid, and the work of a mean-spirited, begrudging sort who somehow gains some sense of worth by defaming others. Sir, you are clearly overmatched here in every way. Your use of words such as "butthole" and "sucks" in the attempt to somehow defend you initial irresponsible and slanderous accusations show precisely how much of a simpleton you are. Over the past decade, I have had the misfortune of dealing with a number of your kind on the Internet, and it always ceases to amaze me how ignorant you people truly are. So, go ahead and wow us some more with your dizzying intellect, Jimmy...Show us how you are the pride of that little hick town in Southeastern Indiana. Chris, I believe I have maintained my perch upon my "high horse" (looking down at James) perfectly. <sarc>

I did not stoop to infantile insults or crass slang to point out how unfair and unecessarily derrogatory this guy has been in his comments of not only Kimb, but myself in retort. I merely pointed out the ill-willed intentions of his posts in this topic, and called him out on it (I bet his mother would be proud of the way he's acted today). He responded with more immature rhetoric, which only serves to further validate my initial point. How is that stooping?

Incidentally, I have no idea who Scott James is. He must be a stock car driver, right?...Wrong board, man.

You DO know who Scott James is!! He's the guy who ran the late model at Manzanita....and I told you to keep the camera on him at all times!! The Silver Shark....and the five other nicknames we came up with for him....

On the topic at hand-
There have been times when I haven't been a huge fan of Kimb's, but I agree with some people who have pointed out to me that she is much better with someone else in the booth with her. I'm not sure her voice is perfect for the job, but her knowledge and preparation exceeds just about any announcer in the business. For that reason, she rates high among the announcers I've heard, and she is also one of the friendliest people I see each time I enter the pit area....

Good luck in whatever you're doing this year, Kimb...

Actually Spridge, when I finally clicked on the link Chris gave, I recognized "The Silver Shark" immediately! What a gasser that guy is...I stand corrected, Chris.

As for Kimb's voice, I know a number of esteemed announcers in this area that don't exactly have the prototypical booming "announcer's voice", yet are still very proficient at their jobs. Rob Klepper freely admits that the tone and pitch of his voice could be better (i.e., lower), but his excitement, enthusiasm, and the effort he puts forth makes him a good announcer. How about the universally lauded Pat Sullivan? He has a high-pitched nasally wine in his delivery (no offense, Pat), but he more than makes up for it with his intellect, his knowledge of the sport, and his application of such in his presentation. He's an icon in the sport, despite his "non-traditional" sound. I don't know that the sound of the voice is as important as the information, and observations provided.

It's like in music. Bob Dylan has THE worst voice (and delivery) in the history of the world. Yet, he's influenced EVERYONE. How about Bruce Springstreen, Louis Armstrong, Mick Jagger, Geddy Lee? I could go on and on...They all have their limitations audibly speaking, but all offer something special and great to the masses. Same goes for announcers. Just because the delivery isn't traditional, doesn't mean the presentation "sucks", as some would have you believe.

Rule number 124.2 of IOW
Do not set Dean off or we all have to start running for a dictionary :rolling::rolling::rolling:

I fully agree with Dean and everyone else Kimb works her a$$ off and does not need to be bashed.

Instead of bashing her take notes and come up with ideas of things she could do to become better I am sure she will take them into consideration. She is all over the place and very approachable.

For example instead of she sucks
How about it would be easier for everyone to understand her better if she turned the volume down when there no cars on the track and then returned the volume to where it was when the cars took the track and have different settings for sprints, Mods, and Stocks.......This will take an effort from people sitting in all parts of the stands to determine what the proper volume is for each of these divisions. Any volunteers to help calibrate the PA system

I have heard track announcers across the country and must say Kimb does a great job and I have no complaints about her.......The only announcer complaint I have from the past season is with Klepper and that damn Chucky thing it just weird’s me out :rolling: (Sorry Rob for dragging you into this thread)

I know nothing of this Kimb Stewart person. My question of the whole matter would be is she really that good, or have we some how just gotten used to hearing announcers that are really that bad? I would think that its their job to gather info on the drivers that their going to be talking about all night long, and sound intelligent. There is few things I hate more than announcers that know nothing of the people they are talking about. If the worst thing people have to complain about is some woman with a high pitch voice, Id love to have your problems then.

Re: Kimb Stewart in '08?

If you were to ask who is the most important person at a race track, you would invariably get many different answers based on perspective and circumstances. Some would say the flagman. A car owner who has just been protested might say the tech guy. A driver trapped in a burning car would more than likely say anybody with a fire extinguisher. A loyal fan who has to miss a night would probably say the track videographer! But for somebody who is a casual fan, or perhaps has never been to a race before, the 'one' person who may have the greatest impact on whether they enjoy themselves just could be the announcer. And IMO that 'one' person should be two. I've heard MANY different folks perform the PA duties through the years. Most of them I would rate as good to very good with a couple below average and a few that were great. However, the ones that I thought were best were some of those that worked in pairs. I guess the trick is getting two that work well together and at least seem to respect each other. When a track or series gets the right people in the booth, it certainly adds to my enjoyment of the event.

Dean,

I take no offense at all - you are right on the money. I do not, and never will have, a classic P A voice. I am reminded anew why I often stay off this board for extended periods of time. Thank you for sticking up for Kimb. In this business you will always have supporters and detractors - that won't change. The most important issue in the final analysis is someone's character - So in this case Kimb (or me or Rob, Brad Dickison or anyone) may or may not be your cup of tea as an announcer - but her character is above reproach and in the end that is what matters most of all.
