Thanks for posting the picture of the 25 car.
I bought out Bill Easton in 1982 and got the pieces of that car as part of the deal. Should have kept that one and restored it and sold the Osborne instead. |

The Red/Blue car was an older car.... I need to scan a bunch of mom and dad's pictures. I think they have a picture of the Red/Blue car. |
Re: Vintage Photo Thread
If you ever Karl Busson without a hat you would no why. He had a championship caliber combover hair style. Nice guy, but a little self concious about his hair loss.

Re: Vintage Photo Thread
I worked on both of Duke's cars you have shown. The older car was a cutdown Watson roadster. Bobby Grimm drove it in 66 I think,as the last Watson roadster to qualify at Indy. Duke drove it as the last Watson roadster to win a USAC feature.
The newer car was a Nance car of course.Duke killed one of them at New Bremen alright. Laverne Nance just welded him up a new one. Somehow Duke got him to give him Nance chassis kits for free. Duke used to say that he painted the car red , white , and blue to confuse the drunks. On the front straight they'd see one color , on the back stretch a different one. Duke was a pain in the butt back then too, but I wouldn't trade the times I spent with my dad and Duke for all the money in the world. For all you young guys , you have no idea what you missed, AND IT REALLY WAS BETTER BACK THEN. |
Re: Vintage Photo Thread
AJ just finished returning one of his cut down Indy cars, back to it's original condition, the chassis had been narrowed, and shortened, and of course the body work was gone, it was a bit over a year in reconstruction, but the new owner took possession just a couple of months ago, I think he also used up the last of the new Offy blocks he had. Beautiful car then, even more beautiful now. Bob

I dug in some boxes in the basement, and found some 'Hero Cards' I had on my bedroom door when I was a kid. (a couple of them have some water damage from a couple of years ago...)

I believe the Cannon orange 59 was a Hoffman family owned car? Malcolm Lovelace, whatever happened to him? Re: Vintage Photo Thread
David: I think that is the Hoffman's Indy car, that Larry is pictured in.
A buddy of mine told me, that a while back he delivered some parts to a company in Springfield, OH....and the guy that was his 'contact' there, was named Malcolm Lovelace. I don't know if it's the same guy, but how many Malcolm Lovelaces could there be in this world :3: Your pictures are awesome! I remember Lil' Joe driving Tipp Machine and Tool's #70, but I didn't remember/know that they also had a #71. |
Re: Vintage Photo Thread
You're right Bill, there just can't be TWO Malcolm Lovelace's, lol. I mean, what are the odds???
As far as the Tipp machine and tool cars, the # 70 was common but the # 71 was kind of rare. I only remember Jerry Weeks driving it. I'll have to nose around in my stash to see if I can find more of the # 71 car.
