anybody have any pics at tri-state speedway, would like to buy some of Larry "buckwheat" Gates and J.C. Sulawski. Let me know what you have. prefer 8x10 or bigger but will consider all

dale, i got a ton of j.c. ranging from the white 51 car to the black/blue 12 car...ill get em scanned soon and send you some, but for now you can have this one...

Ohhh the lost days of innocence, when pink socks, open air trailers and weekly Tommy Helfrich arss whippins were the norm.

I can't tell you which evening this was taken, but if it was taken at Tri State I'll bet you a dollar that Tommy won the late model portion of the card.

It was either Tommy or my uncle Ira Bastin duking it out in the Late Models. I think Gary Hayhurst won the first race I ever went to down there.

hahaha, not quite...im pretty sure it was taken in 88 or 89...I remember Tommy whooping everyone in the late models...Hayhurst, Amati, Sulawski, Briscoe are just a few of the great drivers running the weekly Sunday night races at that time.

I want to see a shot of J.C.'s Lavender and Teal paint scheme again. Sounded horrible, looked awesome.

Also there was a guy from that area who came and ran Paragon some in the late 90's. Younger guy and the car was a neon pink if I remember right. Seems like they had sponsorship from an implement company or Honda dealer that may have been owned by his father in-law. Kid was fast, but didn't last. Anyone remember who I am talking about? I forget the name.

Chad, you maybe a little bigger but not sure youve grown up much! I remember the Ol King car like it was yesterday. Sulawski had his hands full with that one! I call you about Duquoin. It might be a last minute deal. see ya!

yea, there is no way i could remember all those names...i think i have a program stashed away from around that time too, i need to dig it out...did Lee Blesch drive the 66 car?? i cant remember, if he did, he stopped racing after a awful flip at tristate that almost destroyed his arm, i think...correct me if im wrong.

and dale let me know about this weekend, memmer and i are going...i got room for more.

BINGO. I knew the name would be familiar. Never knew why he quit racing. Sorry to hear about his injuries. The guy was fast and fearless.
I had some good times talking with those guys at Paragon when they would come race there.

Lee Blesch and Gary Hayhurst Jr. were a fantastic couple guys to watch as I grew up at the track. There were so many unbelievable races with them involved in it is unforgetable. If anyone has any pictures of car please post them. I have been wanting to see them for a long time!!

I know the present track photographer is Phil, but anybody remember who it was back in the early 80's to early 90's? maybe we could get ahold of him, I bet he's got a bunch stashed away!

How bout some other weekly guys like "Lightning" Larry Bland (
#2) "Racin" Jason Smith (#28), Tom Tepe (#41), Jerry Hamby (#2?), Matt Gillis (#22) and Mark Cummins (#3)

I remember meeting Mike Ward after a race one night and he handed me a ton of free bubble gum from his sponsor. I was up the whole ride home.

How about the night Hayhurst rode one out on the frontstretch fence. Thought he was going to end up in our lap. Him and Dunn had some of the most historic battles I've ever seen in my 25 years of being a sprint car fan. I believe Dunn won the points title one year by just one or two points.

Hayhurst was one of my heroes growing up. He was bad fast and on the gas.

Blesch drove a red #66J I believe. I think he was from Holland, Ind.

I think there was also a guy that ran down there weekly for a couple years by the name of Paul Gratzer from Bedford, Ind. Maybe drove a yellow #92 if memory serves me correct.

Bland was always a blast to watch. Man do I miss those days. Kevin Briscoe was always one of my fan favorites as well and how about the pride of Freeman Spur, Illinois, Chuck Amati.

Here's some of the late model regulars I can remember. Terry Woehler (#2), Rick Carneal (#21), Steve Karnes (#11) Kevin Claycomb (#28) Doug McCammon (#92), Ivan Jerome (#88), Ron Fisher (#1x), Mike Munson (#30), Carnell Parker (#75).

hahaha, yes...all us southern indianaians...Racin' jason smith's shop use to be right off green river road in evansville, if i remember right...i use to see his tailor parked out there...the last area in this state that held on to wangs as long as we could...did jerod hull drive the black #11...one of my favorite drivers was the Hooters car, number 18 i believe, i dunno if he ever one a feature, but he was a really nice guy...who was that?

i still love seeing paul may race with the all stars...he use to tear em at tri-state speedway, up till they put an end to the wing sprint cars...anyone know what he has planned this year?

I believe it was Larry Trunnel from over around Owensboro that drove the Hooters car, I still got some handouts from him from back in the day

Trunnel had a scrap bussiness in Maceo just outside of Owensboro. He now lives in Tell City and always has a smile on his face and calls everyone he meets "friend".

I started going there in 1975 (when I was 6 months old) and kept going until we moved to indy in 1987. We still make it down atleast once a year. Haubstat and Kamp I believe are the best tracks in indiana

I believe the 01L car was driven by Danny Pittman. Love this thread bringing back alot of good old memories.
