Re: USAC Sprints - Eldora Speedway - 4/3/66
Let me be the first. This was Johnny Rutherford's first and last race of the year, at leat as far as outdoor races are concerned.
We were supposed to go to the race that day but decided against it. The weather looked iffy, that day. Typical April weather at Eldora. |
Re: USAC Sprints - Eldora Speedway - 4/3/66
What a Semi line up . The field for it is incredible. Beale , Gaines, Weld, to name just a few.

What makes you think that your comments are irrelevant? Your thoughts are always interesting and most of the time humorous. Keep the good stuff coming. I hope the chow was good and the margaritas better!:6: Now, did Arnie have them covered or did he have to work for the big V?:22: |

reading this on lunch at work and your irrelevant comments helped an old timer remember the first name of a TQ driver who was friends with Dick Dwenger. So I for one would welcome all comments as I was not in attendance at these races and I came to this forum when logged on and saw that you had posted these old results. It is good to remember the past and yes some future results would be nice to see.:8::32::):22: |

Re: USAC Sprints - Eldora Speedway - 4/3/66
The way I read Marv's post I thought Hewitt finished 4th in his heat and 8th in the semi.

Re: USAC Sprints - Eldora Speedway - 4/3/66
Wib Spaulding was a hot shoe around St. Louis/Southern IL area in the 60s and 70s. Ran USAC in the 60s. Does anyone have any info or pictures of Wib?

Re: USAC Sprints - Eldora Speedway - 4/3/66
SUPERDUKE sent me a request to post the results of the '66 USAC Eldora season opener. I thought I had previously done that one, so I did a quick "Search" and sure enough...........here tis.
Bringing it back for the perusal of the Dukester. |

Re: USAC Sprints - Eldora Speedway - 4/3/66
Any information on the "Henry Jacobi" listed in TT? Was that Henry from Pa.? Wonder whose car he was in?

Re: USAC Sprints - Eldora Speedway - 4/3/66
I think Don Branson's track record stood for over 9 years.

Re: USAC Sprints - Eldora Speedway - 4/3/66
Henry Jacobi, I belive it was spelled with a y instead of a i was from western pa. As a teenager in western pa in the late 60's I said Gus Linder was the best, I was usually was reminded that Jacoby was better, as was the late Dick Linder, who was really SMOOTH. Bobby Adamson should have been mentioned also. Don't remember seeing Jacoby run.

Hank Jacoby was indeed a good racer who ranks right up there with Gus Linder and Bobby Adamson from the western Pa. area. That may have been his only USAC appearance as far as I know. He stayed in in western Pa. to race and of course he did venture over to Williamsgrove to win the big 150 lap supermod race in the early 60's. |
