no problem here with Direct TV. The coverage was better than good. HBO has their stuff together on these dirt track PPV races.

Re: Chili Bowl PPV
Broadcast was great on Dish Network. It was good to see Bloomington Speedway's "Human Racing Encyclopedia" as part of the broadcast.

Re: Chili Bowl PPV
The lead comentator guy sucked, but the rest of the crew was very good. I thought Larry Rice did an excellent job, even when that other guy was screwing things up constantly. They showed a little to much Stewart, when Darland, Cottle and Gardner were really having some good runs up front. All in all this was a great telecast and well worth the $ for PPV.

Re: Chili Bowl PPV
Liked the coverage, could have done with less in car shots. Actually I like the over the shoulder camera position better. It was a packed house in the pub I was at. Didnt even have to turn my head to see the football game during the downtime.:D

Re: Chili Bowl PPV
One thing i thought was wrong is when they tried to interview Bubba Altig after what happened. I know it's the reporter's job to get the best storyline he can across to his audience but don't do it at somebody else's expense or misfortune. Did he really expect Bubba to talk to him?
|
Re: Chili Bowl PPV
I absolutely loved the coverage last night (wished the outcome was a little different).
One thing I can see that needs to be changed is get the qualifying nights on PPV as well. If it is on next year, I would definately buy it again. I agree Tim, pit reporters need to stop and think about interviewing a driver aftersomething like that happens. You could tell right after it happened Bubba was po'd. I know it's their job but have a little respect for a driver. |
Re: Chili Bowl PPV
The racing was pretty good, nothing special, just seemed like another race to me. It must be the atmosphere of being there to party is why it is so hyped up. I have never been there. I could have done without all the interviews, I watched to see racing. They could have showed more highlights of previous nights racing during track prep and I didn't need to see replays of C's and B mains that I had just viewed. They shouldn't have broadcasters that don't have much of a clue of what the deal is, I thought he lowered the quality of the viewing of the racing quite a bit. He sounds like he is from pro wrestling. I could do without the gearhead TV people as well.

Re: Chili Bowl PPV
I also thought is was worth the money. I would certainly be willing to pay more to see more nights of racing at the Chili Bowl. Indiana as certinly represented well in the top ten. It was geat hearing Pat Sullivan. I can't wait to hear him weekly at Bloomington Speedway again the summer.

Re: Chili Bowl PPV
All in all I thought it was pretty good. Maybe a little too much in car at the wrong time, but with that much action on that small of a track it may have technically been necessary. I thought the gray haired guy and the chick doing interveiws were horrible. Any number of drunk cup fans could have done as well. On the other hand I thought Dave Argabright, and Pat Sullivan were outstanding. For the first time I thought it as a whole came off really well. I went there in person 5 years in a row in the early to mid 90's. It was awsome, but everytime I looked at how crowded it was, I was more than happy to be on my couch.

Re: Chili Bowl PPV
I liked the line about no fumes. And then they panned to the track, and all you saw was a white haze hanging over the track.I like it! Didn't cost me 2 grand, didn't breath them nasty fumes, wasn't packed in like a sardine AND WASN'T DRINKING 3.2 BEER!
ps CAMEO'S by THE BROTHERS ECKERT,PETTERSON and they tell me it was MIKE WARY in the TILTON HILTON SHIRT IN VICTORY LANE."pa posse" PSS Did anyone see them passing "checked past" girlfriend around the stands? |
Re: Chili Bowl PPV
Well, if some fan got this for ten bucks they got a very good deal, For the ones that paid $25 it was over priced!:angry-smiley-007::respect:

Re: Chili Bowl PPV
i thought the whole thing was terrible..way to many interviews by people who didnt have a clue what they were talking about..racing was ok for a saturday night in january..and watching it on tv is not like being there..
|
Re: Chili Bowl PPV
I thought it was the best racing program I have ever seen on TV. The sound was by far the best ever.
Lose Sargent, the chick & the jerk who tried to interview Altig and they might just have something. |
Re: Chili Bowl PPV
Overall I thought I got my money's worth. Maybe some of that comes from being able to see only a handful of live races each year and that requires a minimum drive of 600 miles one way to KC (usually 1200 to Perris). The people from Speed Freaks were as stupid doing race track interviews as they are on their own show and where did Matt Yocum come from at a midget race? Is this just throwing a bone to the "fender fans." As usual Rice,Argabright and Pat Sullivan were outstanding they just couldn't talk enough to drown out this Stout guy.
If the people that put this on learn from their mistakes and get some constructive criticism maybe we can hope for a better show next year. They don't control they quality of the racing but they do control the rest of the show. |
Re: Chili Bowl PPV
24.95, HELL YEAH!
The guys in the booth were OK IMHO the guy doing interviews with Elvis and the like, Sorry, He sucked. I would ask one thing tho, Instead of talking about stewart ect. Why not give the names and possitions of the running order so I don't have to read that small scroll on the top as the race is going on? Chuck, who probably woudn't have paid much more for it but It was by far the best TV racing I've seen. Far better than any Nascar Televised, Ever! At least they were racing balls out and not points chasing |
Re: Chili Bowl PPV
I loved it. I'm really broke and can't afford to actually go to the race, so it's the next best thing. From a marketing standpoint, they did what they needed to do. I would be willing to bet if you took a poll of the people that bought the race, 20 to 25 percent had probably never heard of a midget, or watched one race. They heard Tony was going to be there along wth Kasey, and they figured for the money it would be worth it to watch. They did what they had to do, and I applaud them for it, hopefully it made enough money for them to bring it back next year. I thought the announcing staff was great except for the monster jam guy, but even then, he wasn't horrible. I like driver interviews, I think they make things interesting. I don't think I've ever felt worse for a guy than I did for Bubba, I've done something like that, certainly not on that big of a scale, but I've done it before, and it felt horrible. Can't blame Klepper for doing his job.
Here is a good question, how many people would pay 99.99 for the telecast to start at noon when they start the "K"s, and run all the way to the feature? I would in a heartbeat. |
Re: Chili Bowl PPV
I would pay a pretty good price to get the entire week!!
|
Re: Chili Bowl PPV
TV coverage was great! They actually made the event seem important.
Best $25 I ever spent, now I know for a fact I will never go to Tulsa in the winter! I'm sure it is a fun event, I'm sure the party is great, but, a dry-dusty track all week, then wet it down for the Sat. A and make it one laned! |

When they interviewed Sammy and when they showed Kevin getting out of his car with Sammy standing beside him there was some dude holding a sign. Not sure what it said. Maybe "Don't break your HIP or something" All I could make out was "HIP". Anyways, you could see the guy almost get in a fight with a Sammy fan in the background when the Sammy fan grabbed his sign and threw it.:kookoo2:

Re: Chili Bowl PPV
Good for the Sammy fan for throwing the stupid sign!
GO SAMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Re: Chili Bowl PPV
I thought it was excellent, and Pat Sullivan was able to make the broadcast much better, Can't imagine how it would have been without him.
I have been wanting to go in person and see and after watcing the PPV it made up my mind for next year. The only problem I had with it was that my wife actually sat down and watched it with me so i had to keep explaining things to her. Eric C |
