Military Vet need advice for running Sprints in '10

Hi, My name is Jarod Allred, I'm 29 years old from Southern Indiana(Evansville). I just returned from Iraq and I'm looking to resume my racing career after not racing since 2002 when I joined the Army. I started running go carts at age 8 til I was 17, then went over to late-models and ran some late model stuff until 2002. I waiting on my Army Bonus to be deposited within about 40 days from now, I should be getting about $15,000-$20,000, and I'm wanting to find an owner who wants to field a car and I would pay operating cost and travel for running that car, or Iwas going to buy my own sprint car and equipment and do this myself. This will be my rookie year in sprints and I'm needing someone who could give me advice and maybe show me the ropes ala coaching or something like that. I'm also trying to find a regional circuit that I could race like ASCS or etc. Can someone help me out with this project? My email is Jrodallred27@aol.com, contact me anytime.

Jarod

First of all thank you for your service, you're far braver than myslef. A little story. I came into a fairly large sum of money myself, and became used to living lavishly(!). As a result I like most of America has some debt these days. I mean no ill will whatso ever, however, do yourself a favor and by a house...

Welcome home. I just retired in June after 21 years as a Navy Seabee. I was there twice. I personally can help you out with your safety equipment as I am the head of Bell Helmets. I also race non wing and my advice is since you are from the Evansville area, spend your own money and buy your own car.
The MSCS is a non wing series based out of Haubstadt, the owner of the series being the owner of that track on rt 41. Another series you can run in the area is the American Sprint Car Tour, which is another non wing, but steel block based series.
Get your feet wet in 2010 and get to know some people. Then if you want to run ASCS, or the All Stars, you'll have more of an idea what you would be getting into. With your home base, the wing series would involve considerable travel.....not to mention your investment the first year. Also their is a family across the bridge in Henderson Ky, the Gentry's, that run 4-5 sprints out of their shops that would be good to get to know for help and advice. Finding IOW was a good start too. If you are still on leave and have some time, come to Indy this Wed or Thursday to the big ass IMIS trade show downtown at the convention center. This is a big family, we'll get ya going.

Thanks for your service to this country. Buy used stuff and run the MSCS, local Haubstadt and Paragon/Bloomington shows. Talk to John Memmer (Memmer Tile) , Mike Sulawske (MJ Auto Service), Gary Hayhurst (Hayhurst Auto Center), Larry Gates (World of information here) all in Evansville plus the Gentrys in Henderson, Ky. Be prepared to lose all of that cash very quick. You could do a Micro sprint at a bit smaller of a budget. They run at Linton, and a few places in So. Ill. Good Luck!!

Just a fan so no advice other than how to spot the good seats. But I also want to extend a big thanks for what you choose to do for the rest of us. I think you should get a bonus with a whole bunch of zeros and commas added before the decimal. Enjoy!!

I wouldn't argue that, but you guys don't need to thank me, you guys get to do something that i admire and dream about doing which is racing.

Jarod....As others have said, Thanks man and welcome home!

You may want to email this guy and see if he still has some of his stuff for sale. bob_shutt12@yahoo.com

He had a car pretty reasonable and it came with a ton of extras.
