So everybody what is the craziest or most exciting moment you seen in a race this year? Not necisarily a whole race just something that happened in the race. I would have to say Hmeil's flip and wall ride stands out in my mind.

Although I didn't see it, I was there and I saw the aftermath. It was at Lawrenceburg 10-3-09 for the MSCS 10k to win show. Hockett was involved in an early wreck with Brady Bacon. He went into the pits and came back out. After pushing off, his throttle stuck and he went for what I heard was a nasty tumble down the backstretch. They weren't even lined back up yet for a restart!! That can happen, but it just never usually does. Crazy.

Most exciting for me was the Sprint Week event at Kamp. That is one that I will remember for a long time.

Best was Bloomington's 67 car MSCS Show..........Worst was Chandler's 14 car Scora Steel/Aluminum Block Fiasco...

The young man from Ohio who flipped at the 'burg, kept it going even though the red waved.

That ranked up there with the night that J.T. stuck his sprinter's nose into the Twin Cities backstretch. Not to mention when Dickie stuck his sprinter in the fence like a fly on flypaper at Bloomington.

#1- The last lap of the Hall of Fame Classic @ Angell Park. Clauson led @ the white flag. Hagen dove down and snatched the lead away in the first turn and just checked out on the back stretch. It looked aver and done with. But BC just stood on it, really rocketed off of turn 4 and somehow beat Darren to the flag stand.

#2- The last lap of the Sprint Week race @ Kamp. Boat edged ahead on the back stretch. Darland out drag raced him into turn three and looked to be on his way to victory. Until Cole Whitt shot off of turn four and made a furious charge for the line. Nobody there had any idea who had just won. Klepper had to tell us that is was DD.

#3- The last turn, of the last lap @ Oskaloosa. Hockett was leading coming off of turn 4, but Darland had been reeling him in for several laps and had the momentum. Nose to tail, they came upon a lapped car about 100 yds from the flag stand. They split him, one going high and one going low. Like the race at Kamp, you had no idea who had just won. Then Jesse did a flying donut on the victory lap, that was unlike any I had ever seen.

There are just a few. There were many this year, that as soon as I post this, I'll think "I can't believe I left that one out."

I was gonna say the same thing. The way DD and Whitt, Boat and Stanbrough were side by side swapping spots often several times in the same lap for what seemed like the second half of the race was incredible. What was more amazing was the cars were fourty feet apart. DD and Boat on the outside wall and Whitt and SBro on the inside. You could have raced a dump truck between em :)

then I came home and read 7 pages of how bad it musta been. LOL

craziest moment = hockett flipping out of the lead at calistoga

most exciting moment = hasn't happened yet...november 21st midget race at ventura!

Hagens Flip in the Eldora opener was a wicked one. Brett Burdette was some 30ft in the air on his LBurg flip. OUCH!

:14: I would say one that I won't forget is the Levi flat tire at Terre Haute and USAC letting him restart in the lead. Then everyone running out of fuel and JS going from 3rd to the win. Lets not forget the chaos that followed with everyone jumping the officals butts and one crew member swearing at the fans who were booing them. What a weird night.......

The most exciting thing was at the Knoxville Nationals. Unfortunately, it was not racing related, but trying to get out of the grand stands in a rain storm with lightning strikes in the area.

The craziest thing I saw this year was at Bloomington. After a crash in either the mod or super stock race, around 5 or 6 "fans" scaled the frontstretch catch fence as if they were going to try to climb over. The flagman pointed them out and they were escorted out. :19:

My most exciting moment was having USAC Silver Crown cars return to the track I grew up at - Oswego Speedway.

craziest thing....11 sprints and 12 midgets at salem for a USAC SHOW.....most exciting was getting 65 cars at bloomington for the MSCS show

Most exciting was Kenny Nifflis winning the Sheldon Kinser memorial, couldn't have happened to a better guy. The most unusuan was probably the whole Travis Tood Lee Hobbs incident. Gotta love it when someone srops on the backstretch and waits for someone else.

Oh, yeah, I forgot the craziest thing that I saw in racing. Houston Raceway Park, after sending out press releases about the upcoming 2010 season, including class changes, sponsors, etc. takes it all back on the last points night, stating that there would be no weekly racing on the dirt oval in 2010 AND that the points fund for the 2009 season would not be honored. Of course, there was no press release for that.

Kuhn and Loyet's fiasco at Du Quoin in March was entertaining to watch.:20:

Something I just couldn't believe that happened was Stanbrough at the KISS race at Haubstadt. Can't remember who it was he tangled with in his heat but he was relegated to start shotgun in the B. Races to the lead in just 5 or 6 laps then coming down the frontstretch blows his right rear ripping out one of the nerf bars and is done for the night.:18::19:

The entire feature during ISW at Kamp...but especially the last few laps. From the battle between Stanbrough and Darland, to Whitt taking them both, to Darland fighting back up high to swipe it from Whitt and Boat by a few inches to become the all-time winningest SprintWeek driver in history...it was fantastic.

360 Nationals at Lake Ozark, MO.... 6 inches of rain Friday and Saturday... 35 305 sprints and 60 360 sprints..

TURN ONE LAP ONE HEAT ONE of the evening a 305 car on the back row jumped a right rear and tore down 3 sections of catch fence. Hour and a half to repair fence....several more flips throughout the heats and B mains.

Then about lap 4 of the 305 A feature another back row starter who had passed half the field biked real hard in, you guessed it, TURN ONE...got upside down hard and tore down the same 3 sections of the catch fence...ANOTHER HOUR AND A HALF TO REPAIR THE FENCE.

During the 360 Feature a huge fog rolled in and you could barely see the cars on the other end of the track...Checkered flag flew at 2:56 A.M.

I have been at the racetrack for 10 hours plenty of times as a competitor, but never as a spectator...Still a great show.

The craziest thing I saw was at Waynesfield.

T-Mez drilled the round bales at the start of the guard rail in turn 3, on the first lap of his heat race, did a high flyer, landing right side up as he rips the traffic light off of the fence. Comes out for the B and starts last, and wins it. He starts 19th in the feature, and ROMPS his way up to 3rd with 2 laps to go in the 25 lap race, then tags the guard rail in the center of 3-4, and gets a flat RR...still ends up 7th.

He was flat out driving Hazen's 57 like he stole it!!

#1 Seeing Fishburger sitting in turn 2 stands watching Lucas Oil Late Models, wearing his elvis disguise outfit.
#2 I was driving the tractor with the lely attached, Tim Johnson was in the water truck coming up the frontstretch towards the track entrance where about 60 late model teams were seeing what we were doing to the track. Tim turned on the side sprayer just as he was next to the entrance, soaked them all, I was laughing so hard, i could'nt see a thing from the tears. Its one of those....you had to be there moments.:5:

Craziest, which I can't believe nobody has mentioned yet, was Shane Hmeil at Kokomo. He takes a huge flyer, lands on his wheels and drives off.

BC and Levi at Haubstadt for sprint week title.Hardest I have ever scene those two drive ever.Title comes down to those two and they settle it wide open.

Don't get to many races but I have two.
#1 DD and the Rocket at Oskalooska, had no idea who won
#2 Brady Bacon and Hud Cone for 10 amazing laps for $10,000 at Kansas City.

Cmakin, you just described what the Phoenix Race Fans experienced in March of this year. Manzy's race schedule was set for the year, sponsors secured, held their kick off race of the season with USAC Silver Crown, Sprints and Midgets, a month later WOO ran there and a month later they closed for good on Easter Weekend after 58 years.
Your post and Joe Mc's reminded me that Manzy closing was the craziest thing I ever saw in racing.

That would be the flip and wall ride I was talking about and I would have to add Whitt coming off of turn 4 about 4-5 cars lengths behind Faas and barely nipping him at the line. Chuck had that car hooked up at Kokomo all year

the craziest thing for me was seeing 6 different sprint cars out of 24 get upside down at the gas city final. most exciting moment had to be the IRL race at Chicagoland and the gas city final sprint feature.
