Honestly, this is a very disappointing turnout for Sprints. $5,000 to win, 19 Cars

Re: as of 12:20 at the burg
i would have thought there would be 40-50 of them there how many late models and mods are there?
|
Re: as of 12:20 at the burg
71 Late Models and around 57 Modifieds
|
Re: as of 12:20 at the burg
What sprintcar driver/team wants to spend 2 entire days at a late model show for one paycheck? Well, 19 of them apparently. Remember, only the winner gets $5 grand. I'm pretty sure most of the rest of the field will only get $300 for their two days work.
Chris Nunn- You should be disappointed with the turnout of the LMs as well. 71? I thought you said there would be 120? |
Re: as of 12:20 at the burg
71 is the lowest car count in the history of the DTWC, its a disappointing car count all around. The LM Field is absolutely STACKED. I havent seen the Sprint Car draw as of yet, ill post that when I get it.

Re: as of 12:20 at the burg
I have to say that I am proud to see Kory Crabtree in the sprints. He is among the many rumbleseries.com kart drivers who have moved up. He ran all of our events last year. Kart trivia question... What
sprint car star also builds karts? :8: added by D.O. a Pix of Kory http://i469.photobucket.com/albums/r...O/IMG_9157.jpg |

So, they started in the mid- to high-16s and actually got a little FASTER in qualifying. Can anyone say rubber-down?
I will say that the reasons I decided not to go are plenty. I actually love the late models and modifieds, but having all three in two days on a day-time track is the recipe for a terrible track. That's obviously not their fault, but it did weigh into my decision. Running the sprint cars last is a terrible idea. Yes, they are the support division, but so are the modifieds, and the original schedule had them running FIRST! In my opinion, it shouldn't be about what's the support division and what isn't - it should be based on what division needs the best track conditions. Non-wing sprint cars should always go before late models, and also before winged sprints. Downforce divisions do not need as much race track, so it should make sense to run them later. |
Re: as of 12:20 at the burg
I wouldn't say rubber down just yet until somone confirms. When I was there the track was a little greasy to start so that may be what you are seeing also...
And the factor of not runing the sprints first helped in the decision of not going down there. Not because of track conditions but because I am a race fan also and would have liked to watch the modified and late model features as well. |
Re: as of 12:20 at the burg
The Late Models were on the bottom for the most part until Jason Feger stepped up to the wall and rode the rim around 5 cars to finish second in his heat.
|
Re: as of 12:20 at the burg
Mike, I know what you mean about Lawrenceburg, but they qualify around 14 seconds there. They were 2.6 seconds off, basically, in the first group of qualifying. And that's after they hot-lapped late models, hot-lapped sprint cars, and qualified late models, right? According to the schedule, that's what they were doing. So I can't believe it could have been THAT greasy. I also find it hard to believe that it could have been taking rubber that quickly!! haha

Re: as of 12:20 at the burg
I was there for a while passing out flyers for the Oct 24th Putnamville IOW Racin'Fest. Surprised to see only 19 cars. Track was smooth like the interstate I took down there. Good fan support for the day. Stands weren't full but had quite a few people in them.
It was cold while the sun was out and I'm sure it's not warming up any. http://i469.photobucket.com/albums/r...O/IMG_9148.jpg Ballou was on the wall in his group of qualifing with a few others. http://i469.photobucket.com/albums/r...O/IMG_9196.jpg Good Luck to all at the Burg See Oct 24th at Putnamville. Looks like a perfect track for the Late Model's.....:32:
