Just went over the midget schedule and came to find out that 8 races have either been rained out or cancelled. That's 1/3 of the schedule. A true shame. Just wondering if there wasn't a regional race scheduled against Salem would any of those competitors shown up at Salem? It's funny imo that Usac will go to Salem well knowing that they will only have 10-12 cars and run cars through gigantic holes, but yet they cancel Winchester. What a debacle this series has become.

Bad rumor, Chapter 13 is for individuals, not businesses or corporations (unless it's an unincorporated business owned by an individual).

Since USAC is more than one individual, they couldn't file Chapter13 bankruptcy. Mayber a different chapter, but not 13.

Always looking for the negitive in USAC never see anyone post topics about the good USAC is doing. Midget racing is going to need positive thinking from BOTH sides of the table.

Never??? You apparently missed many of my posts as well as those of Seadog, psullivan, and a few others though it's clear we are in the minority. ;)

I'm not optimistic about the future for midgets on pavement......sprints either for that matter. I hope this is just another instance of my being wrong.

I've made a point to see as many midget races as I could, this year and I've noticed several things. First off, while pavement midget racing might be skating on thin ice, dirt midget racing and the sport as a whole, are alive and well. But, the sands are shifting in the midget world. The sport is trending away from the traditional USAC-centric sport, to one who's epicenter lies slightly to the West. One who's fans live to eat clay dust and could care less about about hearing squealing tires on pavement. And, consequently, the emphasis has shifted away from "Who's gonna win the USAC National Midget Title" to "I wonder who's gonna win National Midget Driver of the Year." IMO, the lion's share of midget teams just aren't interested in (or aren't able to) purchasing and maintaining two different sets of equipment, just to be eligible to be in the running for a title. And by eliminating many teams from title competition, they also eliminate the number of teams that absolutely have to be at every event. And that makes it real tough to compete with a free wheeling points system, that counts your top 30 races, is weighted towards big paying events and is beneficial to drivers with a little outlaw spirit in them. Combine that with a packed house of rabid Illinois or Badger State dirt midget fans and you've got a pretty good recipe for success. And every time I've crossed into the Central Time Zone and ventured into midget country, I've seen great racing that was well supported by race teams and fans, alike. And 40 to 50 600cc micro midgets in the house, is a sign that the future is bright there, as well. But still, the biggest and best midget event I've attended this year was Indiana Midget Week. So, IMO, USAC isn't dying. Nor do they "suk". They're just stuck in the past a bit and a little out of touch with the rest of the sport and with what race fans want. With some modifications, they could easily shift the sands back the other way.

As much as I agree with much of what you say, the Badger group isn't exactly healthy.

You're right when you say that midgets are pretty good on dirt tracks. Short ones. POWRi has no races on half-mile tracks. The biggest they go is McCool Junction.

What exactly does the National Midget Driver of the Year pay? I love the idea of it and everything, but I don't remember anyone wondering who will win it, or anything. I honestly had totally forgotten that Tracy Hines won it last year.

That just baffles me. I don't understand why anyone would think that a World without USAC would be a good thing for race fans, anywhere. They're not perfect. They certainly have their flaws. And even though they're not the only show in town, they're still the best show out there, overall.

Yes, I do have a problem with it. It's a completely false, obviously fabricated rumor meant to cause harm to the major sanctioning body in my (and our, I hope) favorite form of racing.

Would you mind revealing where you heard such news?

Does anyone else not see that rumors like this are bad for the sport, especially in regards to new competitors and potential sponsors? Is it any wonder why the label of "USACfans.com" was taken off this website? Jeez...

i heard it at terre haute saturday nite..i hope the best for them..thats why i said i heard a rumor wanted to know if this was true

I have said all im going to say on this subject.if you want to talk about at the track or anyplace else for that matter feel free to let me know.
I like usac just as much as you do but if they would make a left turn without giving a signal you would end up with a broken nose

DWB, racing is my life. I don't want to get a different one. Unfortunately, lately I've had to be a defender too much....for Triple X chassis, for Eldora Speedway...it's getting ridiculous.

Shortbus - Friday will be my 98th race of the year. Believe it or not, I go to races other than USAC shows. In fact, I even skip some of theirs.

If it is everything in your life, how do you leave it?

I think it's called the good samaritan rule. When people are spreading false rumors about you that could cost you business and hurt you financially (or any other way, really), should people just ignore it and thus agree with it?

And on the same chord...do I ever ask the opinion of someone who doesn't ever go to any races? No. But somehow, you always end up commenting anyway.

Hey bud. I'm not disagreeing with you - I think cancelling races without rescheduling really sucks. With that in mind, I only count six cancelled races this year. Wichita Falls, Anderson, Sun Prairie, Winchester, and two in Louisiana.

The WOO are in the same finiancial trouble that they have been for the past 3-4 years (maybe even longer). They are like a bazillion dollars in debt with no real way out of it. Every year I am convinced will be their last, and every year they come back to race. This is not new information.


I also am tired of people thinking that USAC is the root of all evil.

I have been a sprint and midget fan for 42 years and I read this site daily, but rarely post. With that said, I guess I don't understand the bickering that goes on on this site. The sport that so many of us love is in crisis. Costs are up, purses are not keeping up, attendance is down, tracks are closing and car counts are shrinking. If our sport is going to survive and prosper we, the fans, have to stay united. We can still have and express our opinions, BUT we have to unite in support of the sport and work with the sanctioning bodies and track operators/promoters to change and evolve the sport going forward.

Okay.....I have my say....blast away guys.

Have at it, fellas. I don't have a dog in this fight. Not along the lines that have been drawn in the sand, here. Racing is important to me. Years ago, perhaps, I could have sought to have made it my life. But not anymore. Life is my Life. I enjoy fraternizing with the people for whom this sport, be it midgets, sprints or winged sprints and Indy Cars, IS their life, but it isn't mine. From that perspective I can say that the idea of fans "uniting" is a pipedream like bi-partisanship in ********: AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN.
Further, the idea that the USAC ship is going to remedy itself without a sea-change in philosophy is equally unconvincing. But we have THESE races, now. And many of them are as competitive as any races from "the good old days" ever were. It isn't necessary to talk in terms of "evil" and "usuk" in order to make the point that sports have to perpetually remain vigilant to the needs of their attending fans. All other considerations build outward from the notion of filling seats.
If a track adds four support classes to bolster the back gate, but the racing suffers for it, that point won't be overlooked. If Salem has 10 cars competing and doesn't RADICALLY adjust the program in some way to make the few fans in attendance not feel cheated, fewer will attend again. If a half-mile track has two tow trucks, badly-managed cleanup efforts and general malaise, expect some fans to say "Goodbye" forever. That might really mean: f-o-r-e-v-e-r.
We should feel passionately about this sport we love. Like no other sport on earth, race car drivers put their lives on the line every night. A little ******** and venting by some who are not properly-informed of all the facts isn't the end of the world, but just saying it's business-as-usual isn't satisfying either. This is a sport littered with cultural contradictions, yet pure in it's one pursuit.: Fastest Guy Wins. (should win)
I'll no longer let somebody running some bit of noise up this particular flagpole to see if anyone salutes it get on my nerves, I just wanna see good races.
Fortunately, I have a reasoned-enough understanding of what I expect to see to limit my race viewing to those events where I actually believe I might see something that feeds my soul. Many of those events are USAC ones--the majority of the races I attend, in fact. But I pass on more than I view. I can't see that changing even if I hit the Powerball numbers.

Duh. Good call on Hut. Winchester would have looked just fine on Sunday to you, right? The rainout at Sun Prairie sucked, and it sucks to lose the Hut Hundred, even if only this year. The rest aren't too heartbreaking - especially that trip to pound pavement in Louisiana when some of us can be at Trophy Cup.
