The DuQuoin Mile Under The Lights Next Sunday!

This Sunday, in just a few days...Sept 6

The Silver Crown cars under the lights...racing around the lake on the dirt mile is a sight to behold.
Sounds like the car count should be up around 30.

Also will be modified heat races. They have their feature on Monday afternoon

Actually it is a week from Sunday, (Sept. 6) but I'll be there for the 45th consecutive year!

that's what I meant Ron by saying next Sunday instead of this Sunday; still you make a good point of clarification

This will be at least my 30th straight. My Dad started taking me as a young boy, now's its tradition and I wouldn't miss it for anything.

How about that run by Richy Tobias a few years ago, running up high around the wall all night...that was a classic

That was the best race I have ever seen at DuQuoin.

Going to my first race at DuQuoin...my grandma always said it was the most beautiful track she ever saw...wish she could go one more time. Does anybody have info on prices, where to park, anything else worth knowing? Any help appreciated.:6:

How about the back to the front run in 60 laps by Johnny parsons in the Nix 43 2 years ago!!! The whole crowd was into it, JP was passing 1 car on the high side every corner, only to have rear end issues :( I'll never forget that run because it gave me chills to watch him work that magic like he could!!! I hope for another Great Race!!!

Think the ticket is $25
Parking is i think $5

Malone's taffy is usually just outside the grandstand - awesome stuff.
17th Street barbeque sandwiches are killer
If the weather is good, I like the new turn 1 grandstands
Have fun

The Tobias & Parson runs were certainly something to see.:8: Since the State of Illinois installed the lights, this has become a must see race for me. Being a native of Southern Illinois, I spent some time there watching the day races of yester years and since they went to the evening race the track has held up much better. Kelly & I plan on being there for all of the action again this year. Hope to meet some new IOW folks as well.:6:

Really looking forward to the race also. Going to have my first crew chief experience with my brother in law Jon Sciscoe getting the opportunity to run a champ dirt car for the first time. Haven't had a chance to go for probably ten years for always taking a sprint car to Haubstadt but it should be a great night and will be fun to run with my grandpa galen and the boys who have provided a wealth of knowledge to our effort. Anyone interested in sponsoring a nice looking race car would be greatly appreciated for the event but we will give the best effort possible either way. See everyone there.

The first night race was the only DuQuoin race I've missed since birth. It was a rain-out and I was out of town on vacation with my grandparents on the rain-date. :13:

My first ever race was September 4, 1989-- 9 months and one day after I was born. Dad's birthday is September 4th, so he got to take me to the races for his birthday present. :6: :22:

sargent had the track packed so hard last year even JP
couldn't make the high side work. i'm going though to support sc racing
with hopes of a better promoter in the future. also ,usac should'nt
schedule anything in indiana the night of springfield next year i'm sure
the race at lawrenceburg affected the crowd. in this economy they need
to be really careful about booking against themselves next year. should try
to get midgets or sprints in illinois next year to so they can support each other
not take away from each other. support events around duqoin would be nice too.
in 1995 the sprints ran granite city the nite before duqoin so i decided to skip the
nationals at angell park in order to go to those two races for the first time but i wouldn't
have done that for only duqoin.

I have been going to DuQuoin since the 70's. Jim McElreath even shoved a car I was working on under the ribbon rail. Not as far as Gordon did though. The most breath taking and beautiful mile there is, no doubt. The most amazing thing for me was to watch Tyler Walker flat foot it for an entire lap. Balls to the walls as they say. My wife has heard me talk about it for so long, she is even going with me.

Oh yeah I still talk about that! That's the night I became a big fan of JRS!

Walker's run in 04 was something legendary. Remember Coons trying to keep pace with him early but Walker just marched away. Then coming off a yellow the late run by Brian Tyler who'd obviously been saving his tires. I think only a guy like him could keep a descent pace with the 19 car that night.

don't look for the 83 car till springfield next year. i'll have it out then even if

Another great moment I'll never forget from DuQuoin is Nick Lundgreen in hotlaps back in, I want to say 2005... Sitting in the first turn watching him blast the high-side without lifting in the family owned #0 was definitely a sight. That's when I became a Nick Lundgreen fan... Just wish I got to see him race more often. Still one of my top 5 favorite drivers!

Angell Park is Located in Sun Prairie Wis, it is a 1/3 mile clay track and home to the longest running weekly show in the country, and Home of the National Midget Auto Racing Hall Of Fame. It's been said, Angell Park is to midget racing to what Daytona is to Nascar, or Indy IRL/Cart, Knoxville/Grove Sprints, etc etc. This weekend is the tracks last race for 09, that being the 28th annual 'Firemen's Nationals" presented by Pepsi. The track is own and operated by the local Sun Prairie Volunteer Fire Dept. Go to www.angellparkspeedway.com. Come on up:32: you won't regret it.

It is with a very sad and dejected heart that I will not be able to make it to Du Quoin for the Ted Horn 100. While at work today I suffered a severe leg injury that has me laid up at home all weekend. I have a friend who live across the street from me who is a nurse and she believes the bone may indeed be cracked but without an X-ray nothing for sure will be known. Going to see if it will get better over the weekend.

Sprntr and the 43 crew, get that checkered flag and have a cold one on me.

Everyone, please be safe traveling this weekend and I pray everyone has a safe and fun race.
