Race fans!

:22:please be honest how many times a week to you go too sprint car races? How many times a month? How far do you drive to the track? Please be honest! Thanks!:22:

Re: Race fans!

I don't go to them regularly. I don't have much money to spare for one. Also, I have many other interests that I try to do in the nice summer months before the snow flies and I am stuck inside (until I go out and play in the snow doing donuts in it or something). This might change by 2011 or late next year. I plan on getting my own place in a year so I could possibly have more spare money (when you make the most money at home and you don't make much, things add up quick).

If I had the money, I would try to go atleast twice a month.

Re: Race fans!

Being honest, I never go to sprint car races....unless they are running with the midgets.

Re: Race fans!

I go whenever Perris is running USAC/CRA. With a limited schedule this year that means not very often. Went once to Santa Maria. The PAS usually takes anywhere between one hour or one hour and a half, depending on traffic on the 91. And if there is an accident on the 91 Freeway it might be a lot longer. The PAS is about 50-55 miles from home. Santa Maria is a good three hour drive from my home near Long Beach. Anyway Duke, will we see you in Calistoga next month?

Too many!!!:30:
When i do get to go to other tracks, i travel anywhere from 8 hours to 1 hour away. I have been to about 8 other tracks this year so far.

Re: Race fans!

Oh yeah, I have traveled to the burg this year. If the race is over early and I drive, I woudl go up to 3 hours away. Which is quite a few tracks considering where I live. If I am camping or staying over, up to 5-6 hours.

When I am at home, most weeks that would be "none". Not much in the way of sprint cars down here, and when they do run, it us an ASCS winged show. Now, in May, I drive up to Indiana and make as many as I can, so that would be at least three (Gas City, VCS and Kokomo, with Terre Haute, Anderson and the rained out Haubstadt, this year) not counting the champ cars at the fairgrounds. In July, it was Sprint Week, but we flew to Cincy and drove to all the events, including the midgets at North Vernon.

Honest.

I would go every night of the week if I could. How many times a month? As many as possible. Have I been to that many in a week? Yes 7 nights and then into the next week. I have driven over a 1,000 to see a race. By the way, how are you feeling?

Re: Race fans!

I am a semi-regular at Bloomington, never miss a show at Terre Haute, and absolutely live at the Speedway in May. I love going to new tracks...this year I added Gas City, Lawrenceburg, Kamp, and Lucas Oil Stadium ( if you count Supercross). I am now planning on trying to get to DuQuoin for the first time this year as well. We do travel down to Kentucky for the IRL race every year too. I work Saturday evenings, so I can't get to a lot of the tracks around here, except for THAT.

Re: Race fans!

It takes me less than 2 hours to drive to anywhere in Indiana, once I fly to Indy. :-)

I went to MidgetWeek and the 2nd half of SprintWeek, and hope to get back once more this year.

Re: Race fans!

Tri-state(every time the run), Danville(3), Bloomington(1), Terre Haute(3 counting a race there in Sept), Tri-city(1 not counting midgets there in Oct), Creek Co.(1, week before TNT) 1hr to Haubstadt, 2hrs to Terre Haute, 3hrs to Danville, 4+hrs to Bloomington, 1hr to Tri-city,8hrs to Creek Co. I know the question was for sprinter cars but add Macon, Belleville and Du Quoin for midgets shows.

once a week on the avg. Not counting sprintweek.
3-4 times a month
150 miles (Kokomo being about the longest)
Not as much as we use to before gas prices last year and the economy now.:19: Before these things it was alot more. Have not been to Eldora this year, in the past would have been there 2 or 3 times by now. Only two hr. drive one way. :7:

I average about 8 events per month and :31: an average of about 45 miles one way.

I have been to 56 races at 29 tracks this year. I live in Nebraska and have seen racing in the following states during 2009: Oklahoma, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Inidiana, Pennsylvania and Illinois. I've been to 13 new tracks this year and 201 total over the last 53 years.

40 races so far at 13 tracks in 3 states. We can be to most of these tracks in 2 1/2 hours or less.

I go to at least 1 race every weekend sometimes 2 or 3 and travel up to a 300 mile radius of home.

Re: Race fans!

I am lucky enough to live in Iowa, where you can find a race just about any night of the week. Most of the time I drive 2 hours each way on Saturdays to go to Knoxville. I drive to Eldora Speedway (to visit my family) quite a bit which takes me 8 hours each way. I hit the Rumble every year which is a good 7 or 8 hours each way. During Nationals I go to 10 races in 10 days (11 races in 11 days this year thanks to Mother Nature). Otherwise, I probably only get 2 or 3 sprint car races a week on a good week. If there is nothing going on in Iowa I'll drive to South Dakota, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Illinois... I also have the good fortune of travelling for my job, so I always take my National Speedway Directory with me wherever I go. This year it got me to a USAC show at Mercer Raceway Park in Mercer, PA and a sprint show at USA Raceway in Tucson, AZ. I'm what you might call obsessed.

Re: Race fans!

So far 58 races this year with 22-30 yet to go... in 5 states at 20 different tracks so far this year.

At least 1 a week, up to 7 during speedweeks and such. Most tracks I hit are within 2 hours but a few are farther, Knoxville 508 miles, and Charlotte in Nov is around 700 miles one way when i go back there this year...Chili Bowl was just a little farther than that...

Skatterit 8/23/09 9:05 PM

Re: Race fans!

I try to go every time I get a chance. I have been to the races 18 times this year, most were within 2 hrs. but have traveled up to 4 hours 1 way.

Re: Race fans!

I go 3 nights a week every week they run 3 nights.Distance depends on which tracks I attend, any where from 40 miles one way(gas city) to 309 to Haubstadt.64 dirt sprint or midget races in 5 states, one pavement and one late model race so far.

IndyBound 8/23/09 10:02 PM

Re: Race fans!

How often I get to a sprint car race depends on what side of the U. S. A. I am on. I attended Manzy weekly when I am at home out west, that is until they sold off my favorite dirt track this year. Manzy was a half hour from my home. This year I was at the final Copper on Dirt, the final WoO race at Manzy, the final weekend of racing at Manzy as well as a couple of weekly sprint, late model and mod lite races. USA Raceway, Tucson is usually a two and half hour trip. My last sprint car race this year was the USAC race at Richmond. When I am back east I attend more supermodified races than sprint car races with a couple of summer time USAC Silver Crown races thrown into the mix. I think nothing of traveling as much as 10 to 14 hours or more to a race if it is a race I really want to attend.

Only Indiana sprintweek races or Lawrenceburg specials.....I support the midgets and want to help bring them back

ByronMack 8/24/09 12:28 AM

So far this year, I've been to all the races at Bloomington, 1 at Haubstaut (Rained out, going back for the 50 lapper in September) and 2 at Lawrenceburg. Also went to spring ARCA race at Salem. Probably wont be able to make any more rces at bloomington, got called back to work on 2nd shift and kind of ruined the rest of the season.

Re: Race fans!

Before this year:

3 times a week most weekends. Sprint weeks, other states, some mid week shows(NWWC) and such, Reg. Gas City and Kokomo but hit Bloomington and such for special events or when I-69 not running. Saturday races would be anywhere that sounded good. 50-60 races a year plenty of travel.

This year:

No job, back to school full time, after 3 months in a wheel chair and paying out the ass for medical bills having to sell a Harley, 2 Dirt Bikes, 12 x 8 enclosed trailer, and a bunch of miscellaneous stuff to help pay for some of it. So, this year I go at least once a week sometimes twice. Not traveling near as much. Only been to the Burg twice and THAT once. However, did manage to hit the Eastern Swing this year. Always try to take in at least one new track per year. Honestly, I haven't been keeping track how many times I have been this year so I would have to guess 25- 30 by years end.

Re: Race fans!

With the closure of Manzanita this year, and Central Arizona Raceway in Casa Grande last year, our list is getting shorter.I make every Sprint Car show at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria (Az.not Ill.),takes 45 min. I also go to Prescott Valley Raceway in (where else?) Prescott Valley, takes 90 min. I enjoy the shows at USA Race Park in Tucson, takes 2hrs. Thunder Raceway in Show Low is a racy 1/4 mile that hosts the ASCA and the NMMRA sprints. It takes 3 1/2 hrs.to get there and requires an over night stay (read $$$$) so I don' t get up there as much as I'd like. I've often been envious of the folks in Indiana for the variety of tracks and series they have, but our season in Az.runs from Feb. till Nov. And there's usually a Winter series for the Modifieds. Whatever tracks you go to,however, enjoy them, support them, because you never know when they'll be gone!

Mud Packer 8/24/09 6:03 AM

Re: Race fans!

At least 3 per weekend. So far this year I have been to 63 races (some tin tops) at 24 different tracks. Very fortunate to live in Indiana and see the best traditional sprint car racing around. Friday's it's either Gas City or Bloomington, Saturday Lawrenceburg, Waynesfield, Danville or Paragon and on Sunday it is Kokomo. Special events at Eldora, Tri State, Kamp, Terre Haute, ORP, Toledo, Winchester, Florence and Anderson. All of these are within 4 hours one way to plenty of action within easy driving distance.

Russ 8/24/09 6:11 AM

Re: Race fans!

Usually once or twice a week...between Gas City (45 minutes away), Putnamville (2 hours) and Kokomo (10 minutes)...I'm not a big fan of USAC shows, so if they are running one of those tracks I'll usually stay home and go to one of the others on the other nights...I'd much rather watch somebodies regular program...I will drive 4 or 5 hours to watch the Outlaws...I don't miss very many of their shows when they are in the midwest.

Wingman 8/24/09 6:36 AM

Re: Race fans!

I go about 1 to 3 shows a month. I drive 2-4 hours a show. I base the races I attend on the winners purse due to car counts. I dont want to travel and see low car counts. If big money is offered i go or if it is WOO sanctioned or USAC sanctioned or 10Grand is on the line I go. I will attend the burg about 90% of the time and eldora and Haubstaudt the other 10%.

Andrew S. Quinn 8/24/09 9:21 AM

Re: Race fans!

I havent counted them up this year, but last yr I went to 100 races at 42 different speedways, and I might have missed one or two. That was up from 92 the year before. It will be fairly close to that at the end of this season as well.

I dont think thats to bad an effort for a working stiff. Thats why I moved to Indiana.

Re: Race fans!

I get to about to two to three a month. Now our season starts in March and runs till early November. My closest track Lincoln Speedway (Hanover PA.) is almost 60 miles door to pitgate.

Re: Race fans!

Was going on average once a week.. driving as far at 4 hours away but normally a little over an hour away. Now that I moved I haven't been to a race in a month :( The closest track is an hour away from my house from my new location.

FishBurger 8/24/09 1:20 PM

Re: Race fans!

At least one per week during racing season. And that one would normally be at Lawrenceburg (1.3 miles) unless USAC is running sprints the same night elsewhere. Several times a year I'll hit 2 or 3 a week. Now that I'm old (:( ) , I don't often get as far from home as I once did. Terre Haute (169 miles), Gas City (140 miles) are about my limit with same day returns to home. Haubstadt (220 miles) is doable only with a stay at the Comfort Inn down the road from the track. More often than not it's just me and Stevie Ray Vaughan, Gretchen Wilson, and/or Patty Loveless in the old Silverado. They do a nice job keeping me awake.

Have been as far west as Manzanita, as far east as Reading, PA, north to Milwaukee, and south to Florence, KY......but none that far in about 15 years. :22:

Re: Race fans!

we have been to 68 races so far. 23 thacks , 8 states, 7 rain outs. got about 30 left to see. we would go 7 days a week if they were sheduled properly.

Re: Race fans!

At least once a week, but usually two nights a week. I have done three a few times this year and was pretty tired by late Sunday night. I'm not as young as I used to be, but quite a bit heavier. Did all of Sprintweek for the first time this year. The car made every feature but one, and that was a mechanical failure which was my fault. Have tried it before but always broke or crashed and missed some nights.

Live about 15 miles north of Bloomington so I can make it to any Indiana track in around 2 hours. Haubstadt takes just a little longer. So far this year I have been to 28 nights of racing with three different teams. The last 21 nights back with the EP #2.

racefan20 8/24/09 3:10 PM

Re: Race fans!

3 a weekend on most weeks, 2 if not. I've been to around 50 right now and expect to get to another 15 or so. Had planned to go to manzy again in November. I'll probably replace that with Granite City unless mowerman talks me into going to Tulare. Most everything else has been in Indiana(except Eldora and Danville). Hey I miss manzy, I have a cousin that lives in Cornville up near Sedona, is there any open wheel tracks up in the mountians up there? I have been visiting him in November the last few years and going up and down the mountian to Manzy.
