VUMTQRL at Shelbyville August 22nd

WSVX radio presents an evening of “Racing & Rhythm” on August 22nd when the Vincennes University Midwest TQ Racing League competes at the Shelby County Fairgrounds in Shelbyville, Indiana. Music will fill the historic grandstand as the Shelby Community Band will present two mini concerts during intermissions.

Saturday’s race is the third of four scheduled VUMTQRL events on the ¼ mile fairgrounds oval. The first event, the Salute to Wilbur Shaw on June 13th, was rained out after qualifications. On July 1st, during the Shelby County Fair, Tate Martz led the final 13 laps to record his first feature win of the season over Tim Lynch, Kenny Byrge, Nick Speidel and Tad Cheek. That night Martz also set a new track record turning a lap of 17.144 seconds during qualifications. Brett Hankins won the Jackson Oil & Solvents Duel for Fuel and heat winners were cheek, Joe Miller, Martz, Byrge and Jason Willis

On tap Saturday will be practice, qualifications, two rounds of heat races, a B Main (if needed) and a 25-lap feature. The pit gate opens at 3:00 pm, practice is at 5:00 pm, qualifications at 6:00 pm and racing begins at 7:00 pm. Pit passes are $20 and grandstand tickets are $8 for adults (12 and over) and $5 for children.

Any fans or competitors holding tickets from the rained out event on June 13th may redeem them for entrance Saturday night or the next Shelbyville race on September 12th.

I no longer have my TQ midget but my hats off to Jennifer and Mark. They've done some amazing things for TQ midget racing this year. Good luck Carl at Shelbyville on Saturday.

Thanks but Mark and I just got the ball rolling. There are a million people like our officials, the drivers and teams, fans, sponsors, track owners and promoters, fair board members who are pouring their hearts into this league. They deserve the thanks.

We are working over the winter to put together TQ cars for sale, hopefully at a great cost. It's never too late to get back into it. It has been lots of fun and I expect next year to be even better.

Any word on track conditions this early, I just talked to Kyle, he was in Greensburg, pouring down rain, but nothing seems to be active on the weather map! Thanks! Bob

GREAT night of racing, indeed. Track was fast, and so were the cars. Thanks to everyone involved for your hard work to make it a great show. Nice to see some new faces, old friends, and our wonderful regulars showing up in force. Glad to see Chris Guinn walking around in the pit area. Nice to see Kenny Byrge get our of his car on his own. Wow, that was a nasty flip. Thanks to Gary Lee for all you do, you are amazing. Thanks to Jen and Mark for putting up with me every show. See you all at Madison !!!!!

Gary Lee is Awesome. What a great announcer and even better promoter of racing. :9:
Kenny seems to be sore today. Not sure why. Maybe if he had broke that last hime he wouldn't be sore. :5:
The track was fast but it was better when they had two grooves. :33:

Dale, good to see Kenny is ok, one of worst tq wrecks i've saw in a while. Need to slow that 55 car down during qualifying so then you can start up front on the one lane tracks :5: looked tough to pass. good job to rick, 2 wins in a row now, very fast and on a roll.. :22:

Just a quick "Thank You", to Gary Lee, Mark and Jen, for the "very SPECIAL" license plate, it is much appreciated, this one will be framed, and on display, in my house, but I'll be buying another, to put on my truck, soon as you have them available. Thanks again, and to Gary Lee, my hero, would you mind explaining to my wife, what I need to wear, to the Banquet? Thanks! Bob

STP 8/24/09 6:58 AM

How did you like the double checkered flag finish? Steve does an awesome job.

Steve always does a GREAT job! I am thrilled to have him on our side! Also, thanks to Gary Lee for the matching flag. He is another one that goes out of his way to do things right! As a matter of fact, Too all of you that wear the banana-yellow shirts, Thank You! :8: Your hard work is paying off. People are having fun again! 9:
To the drivers; The word is getting out about the hard but clean driving that you are doing. You put on one hell of a show!
It will take time, but the fans will hear about the great driving and return to the tracks again. :6:

Thank you all,

I have to agree, the MTQRL is a first class deal. The officials are really profesional and go out of their way to help their racers out. They really care about the future TQ racing and are putting in the work to make TQ racing better for those of us that have cars and for those who are thinking about running a TQ. The guys that I raced with at Shelbyville were great. The racers are super helpfull also! I want to thank Wayne and Jason Willis for helping me at Greensburg, and Jim (owner of the old 29 car), Tad, and John for sure for all the help at Shelbyville. John found out how green I was to TQs and just dug in and helped me all night long. By the time the B-main was up, the old girl was starting to run pretty good. By the feature she was running great! I was up to 12th until the fuel pump crapped out on me on lap 17.

I am hooked on TQs, and glad to have a group like the MTQRL to race with.

Carl,

It was good to have you race with us and hope to see you again soon. If you liked the Shelbyville racetrack, you may also like Madison. If you are not busy this weekend, we would love to see you there.

I was kind of busy last weekend and did not get to chat much with anyone, so next time you join us, please track me down and say hello. I enjoy meeting new people. :32:

Thanks for running with us,
