Anyone Oskaloosa bound

Just wondering if anyone on the board here is doing Osky on Aug. 10th and/or 11th? Always a fun time in the fair city of Osky! If any Indianaites ,, or Ohioites, are headed that way on US 34 into Iowa the Sin City of Gulfport IL.(before you cross into IA), has one bar back open after last years all summer flood,,,:). If you break down somewhere close to the Iowa /Illinois border PM, me I'll come and bail ya out!
Rollcall,,,?

Wouldn't miss it,good times every year.:32:
Knoxville, Sunday night, for the inaugural Non-Wing Nationals, could be a big step for the future of non-wing racing, kicking off the Nationals every year, could turn into the premier non-wing race.(if all goes well?)
Osky Monday for the Party.
Osky Tuesday for the Race.
Little Belleville on Wed for both.

Re: Anyone Oskaloosa bound

Duke's right. The family restaurant is really good. There is also a little diner on the main drag near the turnoff to the track that has been good throughout the years. Can't remember its name. Haven't been to Tasos but I will try it this year. Thanks Duke.

Went out to Osky a few years ago on a last minute deal and because all other hotels were booked, stayed at the Red Carpet. If you like crickets walking around in the bathroom then its for you. But, its better than not going at all.

This was the year the non-wing was rained out tuesday and also due to rain the wing cars monday did not hot lap until 11pm or so I think. That was one wild and crazy infield that night....was way toooo much fun. After a few beers and the speed of the wings on the tacky track, it was hard to even focus on them LOL. I guess by the time we got back to the hotel I could have cared less about the quality.

After the rainout tuesday, we ordered pizza and it was some of the best I have ever had. Wish I could tell you guys from where but I don't remember.

Re: Anyone Oskaloosa bound

Just thought I would throw this out. If anyone has some spare time, A neat place that is only about 45 minutes from Osky is the Amana Colonies. If you are like me, you are usually pretty tight on schedule and time would not allow the extra travel. If you get to that area The Ox Yoke Inn has some of the best 'home style cooking' you'll ever find. Home made bread and REAL butter,,,,yum. It's better than what most people would care to eat on an racing junkit,me included. They also have some shops scattered around there with wood products, wine, touristy type stuff. Amana Colonies is located 'sort of' in between Knoxville, and Osky but somewhat north, FYI.
Also, just curious . Is anyone motorcycling to Osky or Knoxville, this weekend? Probably more the pickup truck/suv set doing the run,ay?,,,,:)

LOL.....that's pretty good stuff there, Duke.:3:

Unfortunately, we won't be joining the Koonzee/Funk caravan to the Land of Corn, but we will be joining them and the Belle-Clair PR Director ASQ at the St. Clair County Fair for the Arnie Knepper Memorial POWRi show.:32:

Our worldly travels this weekend will take us to the 40th NSRA Street Rod Nationals in 95 degree Louisville, KY.

I hope the Knoxville show is a HUGE success, cause I'd like to go back there and see real Sprint cars again someday.

Mortboyz,

I hope that when the rain stops Louisville, KY is still in the same place. A lot of water there today and many, many roads closed due to high water and flooding.

I live in Sioux Falls, SD and we don't get much for nonwing shows in the area. I have been going to Knoxville steady for the last 10 or so years and I gotta say the best night of the week for me is Tuesday at Osky. I am really excited about Sunday at Knoxville this year. I am like a kid waiting to go to disney land! 2 nights of non wing action! :27:

Doesn't seem as if many from the indiana, ohio area are going to osky or knoxville. I'm curious as to why not....To far of a distance and the chance of a rain out, can't get time off from work, too costly with the travel and motel rooms, or broke from all of the money spent during indiana sprint week...just wondering.

I'd say all four, plus the chance at seeing a good surface and car count @ Knoxville is about 10%:16

Koonzee 8/5/09 4:45 PM

Re: Anyone Oskaloosa bound

Car count on another board doesn't look too shabby, this doesn't include the half dozen local guys(Iowa) who say they're running.Track might stand a chance, the 305's are the other class and they're not that hard on the track.Weather looks great.

For now:

2B Dave Darland
2W Johnny Herrera
7 Bryan Clauson

I think the little diner you are talking about is Wes Family Cafe. Last year the place was closed and it did not look like it was for remodeling. Too bad it was a good place to eat right before the races.

Re: Anyone Oskaloosa bound

Since we're talking food here,my fave place when I am out that way is Kinfolks in Attica. Its right off Route 5 south of Knoxville. Attica is a very 1 horse town, with a population of about 10 hampsters,16 dogs,7 cats 34 squirrels,35 deer, 5 year round citizens, and Kinfolks Restaurant.

If you miss finding Kinfolks while cruising the Attica strip, then you might be in need of a seeing eye dog.

Duke, I never knew you were such a gourmet. I had forgotten the name of the bakery, but once again you are right on the money. Great baked goods. You really should stop in at least once, if not every day.

Any bikers here by chance? This about a slim to none chance, but thought if anyone was biking over a bikers convention could be arranged somewhere? I'm guessing most everyone doing the races are 'cagers'...:) If anyone was really interested Madison County,is about 50-60 miles on west of Knoxville, Osky. We could reinact the Bridges of Madsion County, movie, less CE,,,,:)
Just a thought.
