I am sitting at home cause Usuc is not in the budget. I have planned out the races that i could run in the winter with my car and since it comes out of my pocket i have to pick and choose where and when i race my car. If superduke would give me some of his race horse money that he got from hewitt and jw i could run sprintweek.

psullivan 7/13/09 7:46 AM

Re: Bp?

Sounds like a rational decision Billy - there are those who fail to choose this route and are broke and out of the sport today. Folks, the last I saw this guy has been an LPS and Gas City champ- he doesn't have to apologize to anyone.

I don't think that 440c.i. engine he uses is quite USAC approved.

I'm sure if someone would put up the money and a car that was capable of winning, BP would run Indiana speed week. It's too bad this hasn't happened, because this guy can flat ass drive the wheel's off a car. Maybe next year Billy!:32:

Don't run all the shows. If your a track champion and you think you "own the track", then run those tracks. He would have run Gas City and Kokomo if it wasn't Sprint Week. He's a sprintcar driver get in the car and drive.:31:

And this thread show what's wrong with forums like this....

Billy has been accused of cherry-picking, cheating, and avoiding the USAC boys at the tracks where he's won championships, when he's got on here and explained that it's budget constraints that are keeping him off track. If someone would step up with some bucks and sponsor Billy, I'm sure that he'd love to racing Speedweek. Sad that some feel that Billy's decisions are flawed....

I guess some folks' opinions are just a little colored. Not that my opinion matters much here, but just ignore those points of view, Billy. You can't please everyone......

I agree.. Not choosing wisely where to race would be the dumbest thing to do for a family owned and operated team. "Cherry Picking" I don't believe in that term. Not when it comes to paying for the expenses outta pocket. In todays world you go where you can justify unloading and lets be real for what it cost to run with USAC and the way their format is and the cost just to sign in, it just isn't a smart decision for weekend warrior like Billy, who in my opinion can get the job done without question on any given night. It seems the "CHERRY PICKING" term is always thrown around by people that have no idea about the cost involved. I don't blame anyone for going to a place like VCS while USAC is running at Gas City. Why not? Chin up Billy you maybe one of only a few smart ones....:6:

Billy is the type of racer I admire the most. I like a guy whose "brains are in communication with his balls"(from the late Richie Evans). A racer like that owes NO ONE an explanation, much less an apology.
Conversely, you have some people whose thought process occurs in their colon rather than their cranium. One particular IOW poster comes to mind.:2:

Please tell us how many races you won !!
How many times did you run the Speedway like Bill Sr.
If if remember correctly you were at better running your mouth than you were running on the race track.
Please tell how many races you won !!:3:

Bingo! Took the words right out of my mouth.

Some posters on here worry too much about what other people do or say, when , if they step back and take a look, they really, really just need to worry about their own deal.

BP's name will still be in the books as track champion maybe at three places at one time, long after the haters are gone! keep up the good work buddy, gotta make the decisions that best fit in your budget.

Re: Bp?

I dont think anyone is knocking Billy for what he's trying to accomplish. As a sprint fan, I want to see the best against the best! It would be exciting to watch him defend his turf against the best drivers from across the country. Billy P is one of the best Indiana has to offer on a weekly basis. If weekly shows were at Gas City and Kokomo, he would be there.....why not against the best? Of course this is his decision to make, not the fans, and you have to respect it. But I for one would enjoy seeing him in the competition deluxe.

Two questions

1) How much does it cost to run 1 round of Indiana Sprint Week?
2) (a question I thought of when I worked Chicagoland this weekend) Would Ryan Newman have ran Indiana Midget Week? (this requires more than a knee-jerk response and requires that you were around USAC racing at that time).

Third Question - for SW races, do the tracks award points toward their track championship ?

Fourth Question - any potential breaks from USAC for teams who can only afford to defend their home turf ?

While I may not agree with everything Duke has to say on here, I don't see why everyone is attacking him on this subject. From what I read all he wanted to know is why Billy wasnt running sprint week. Billy replyed and now we have this huge arguement. Am I missing something here??

With some on here you have to read between the lines and the "Duke" is one of them. Unfortunately there always seems to be the perverbial "shot" given without comming right out and saying it. Most of us on here knew exactly what was meant. But hey, thats what makes public forums so great!!!:6:

He races many of these guys weekly at Kokomo. He is on a budget and I respect that. I also would have liked to see Chris Gurley last night, he has been running strong this year.

Chris's wife is close to giving birth to twins and last night as they were getting ready to leave Amber had what they thought were labor pains so they rushed her to the ER. The Doc's thought it was muscles beginning to tear around her belly but all is well. Chris's deal is a perfect example of picking where he can make a buck for as little over head as possible. As for Billy I applaud him for doing it his way.

Fuel costs are the same. Tires are the same. Not sure of the price of a 3-day TP. To use the word "budget" is a bit confusing. As for the Fox Bros...they build great engines. And they'll build whatever size you wish. I just wanted to see how he stacks up against the best. Guess we'll never know.

What big name driver(s) are running sprintweek that Billy has never competed against?
You may never 'know' (meaning admit) how he stacks up, but most fans and competitors know he stacks up just fine.
