UMRA Hits Bloomington on Friday
UMRA Hits Bloomington on Friday
The cars and stars of the UMRA TQ Midgets are set to hit the clay again at the Bloomington Speedway this Friday night. Two UMRA races were held at Bloomington in 2008 with Terry Goff picking up the win in May and Tate Martz being victorious in the July event. Fans at Bloomington will want to keep an eye on the brewing points battle between the brothers Goff. Thirteen-time UMRA series champion Terry Goff has been the winner of three races this season but only holds a 50-point advantage over his brother Oogie, who has had an extremely consistent season and won the most recent race at Rushville on July 3. There will be some extra incentives on the line for competitors on Friday night as always at UMRA races. The feature winner will receive a certificate from the Dutch Mill Buffet in Millroy. Also the G&G Oil “Hard Charger of the Race” will be up for grabs as the driver that advances the most positions in the feature will get five gallons of fuel. The UMRA event at Bloomington will also have support from Woods Electrical Contractors, a locally owned and operated business that is a full service electrical contracting company. Gates open on Friday at 4:30, practice at 6:30, and racing begins at 7:30. Top Ten In UMRA Points (After Eight Races) 1. Terry Goff 1090 2. Oogie Goff 1040 3. Zach Cougill 892 4. Brent Turner 852 5. Brandon Gray 765 6. Trent Henderson 735 7. Ron Combs 711 8. Doug Roland 653 9. Bobby Walton 651 10. Robbie Roland 638 |

Re: UMRA Hits Bloomington on Friday
What is the Payoff for this race? Bloomington Speedway site says 1000 to win.
Is that the case? |
Re: UMRA Hits Bloomington on Friday
Any Updates?
|
Re: UMRA Hits Bloomington on Friday
I don't know about the pay out. I would call Bobby his number is on the umra website. Sorry I couldn't help you any more than that.

Re: UMRA Hits Bloomington on Friday
It is not on UMRA website. So if anyone has any questions they just need to call Bobby Walton.
|
Re: UMRA Hits Bloomington on Friday
Just got a text message from Bobby stating that it is a 1000 to win.

Re: UMRA Hits Bloomington on Friday
To clarify the question as to the purse of the Bloomington race:
The race is indeed $1,000 to win. You must be a UMRA member in good standing. |
Re: UMRA Hits Bloomington on Friday
$1000 to win is worth the drive!

So someone else that doesn't run regularly with the UMRA won't get the $1,000...???....I thought Bloomington was putting up the $1,000? |
Re: UMRA Hits Bloomington on Friday
UMRA will be accepting new memberships at the Bloomington race, just as they would at any other race. The requirements for membership are outlined in the UMRA rule book which you can access at www.umra.com
Any other questions you may have can be directed to the club president whose contact information is also on the website. ---------- Post added at 05:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:02 PM ---------- The addtional purse is not being provided by Bloomington Speedway. Woods Electric has been generous enough to come on board as a sponsor of the race. Thank you to Woods Electric for their support of the UMRA. |
Re: UMRA Hits Bloomington on Friday
Just my opninion, but that doesnt seem like a very good way to get a higher car count. Here is a thought, how about, since the MTQRL is off for a week, try to attract some of those cars with the higher purse. In the end the UMRA benefits. And hey, impress some of those new cars with the speed and efficiency at which the UMRA runs a program, maybe they will want to come back. Dont advertise a big purse and then have strings attached to it. That type of wishy-washy stuff is , from what I've heard, is the reason for some of these cars going with the new club. This kind of stuff just creates tension between the two groups and is ridiculous. It is my understanding that you dont have to be a member to race, and the prize money is the prize money. If Tony Stewart won the Indy 500 the speedway wouldnt hold back some money and tell him sorry, since you dont run with us every weekend you only get 1/3 of the purse! Come on guys(and girls), I think most of us want unification. In case nobody has noticed, both clubs have a very anemic car count. 19 cars at Rushville??!! 12 cars at N. Vernon??!! Instead of making it unpleasant for people to jump from club to club, impress them with what you have to offer.

Re: UMRA Hits Bloomington on Friday
FYI...you have to be a member of either group to race with them. This isn't something new or unique to the TQ's. Try signing in tomorrow night at Lawrenceburg to run a USAC Sprint car without a membership.
|
Re: UMRA Hits Bloomington on Friday
Sorry to disappoint TQ97 but in USAC you can run 3 races on a temporary permit. You don't need a membership before race 4...
|
Re: UMRA Hits Bloomington on Friday
And the temp permit costs how much?
|
Re: UMRA Hits Bloomington on Friday
TQ97, FYI, you should know that the UMRA started a program a few years ago that allowed racers that didnt normally run with them to come and run three races without being a member and without buying the insurance. This was mainly aimed to allow guys to come from IL, CA, FL and TN and race for the weekend.
|
Re: UMRA Hits Bloomington on Friday
I had forgotten about that, so you're right. However, the spirit of that rule is to lower the costs for guys to come race with UMRA for one weekend. Since UMRA members went out and got the extra purse money from the sponsor, why should they let non members get it?

Re: UMRA Hits Bloomington on Friday
Probably should have been $500 to win and then split up the rest back thru the field. That way, the cars that have been running with the club still get a bit of the action. Oh well, too late now. Good luck to everyone.

Re: UMRA Hits Bloomington on Friday
Racing is suppose to be fun so if its not fun dont go. Race where you want when you want. Thats what its all about racing. Forget the ******** involved just race. Both clubs have good competition so race with both clubs is that much more rewarding to win.

Re: UMRA Hits Bloomington on Friday
JPM,
I'm pretty sure that I remember some gears lying on the track at Montpelier. I was there that night, but it didn't seem to help! You know that I'm mainly moral support anyway...lol! SFD |
