THAT, sundown

Why does THAT have a sundown shut down thing? They never had it in the past. What difference does it make if the sun sets at 7:30PM or 8:30PM?

Gas City, 'Burg,State Fairgrounds and Anderson are a few tracks I know of that run east and west and do not have sundown shut downs. Why THAT?

Just curious.

Think about it Don. Anderson has stands in the way, the fairgrounds has buildings in the way and gas city has trees in the way. THAT has a long stretch of nothing blocking the sun at that low angle SOoooo thats why when the sun gets very low in the sky it disrupts their vision.

I thought it was to give you something new to piss and moan about. Am I right or is it the thought of maybe no fireworks, past 7:30 PM racing, too many classes of cars, low car counts, Scott tissue instead of Charmin in the men's room or any other of the 15-20 reasons that set you off?:15: Thanks for coming up with a new one!:8:

I wonder if Don knows that the Vigo County Fair is the same week as the ISW race at the Action Track?

I really think the time change has something to do with it

It has upset many programs. I know Bloomington is a different track now

How about putting a large bill board on the turn three wall?

They could sell advertising, make a little profit and keep the show going.

I can see your point, but my question was, in all the years I have been going to THAT this is the only promoter that has done this as I can recall.

Actually Don, I can remember many times where they would have a 15-20 min break right after qualifying or even in the middle of qualifying to let the sun go down (when it was central time). They would annouce it over the PA that they were taking some extra time before the heat races to allow the sun to set.

I must be getting old and senile. I have been going to THAT since when they ran on Sunday afternoon with no lights.

I guess when they had a break after lights were installed I must have thought it was for another reason. Sorry but I guess I missed the sundown shutdown.

Don, that may be true - I never worked there when there weren't lights, but I do remember several times when we held things up because of the sun - It was never built in to the plan - but it did happen

I've see a few times they delayed a push out due to the sun at the Burg, Used to be much worse on the old track, Now the wall within a couple minutes will shade almost half the straightaway.

Actually, during the Hulman Classic, they had a huge banner up on telephone poles outside of turn 3 that appeared to be an attempt to block the sun from the drivers' eyes down the backstretch. Couldn't tell ya if it worked.
