Congrats Chad Boat !
I thought I would post on something that was positive from this past weekend.
Congrats to Chad on doubling up at the Bob Darland Memorial ! It is not often that I am happy after getting our rear handed to us by anyone, but getting to watch Chad put it all together in not one but both events last night was great to watch. If you ever want to meet someone who personifies what we hope to see from our next generation of race car drivers and for that fact next generation period, make sure you take the opportunity to introduce yourself to Chad. Congrats Bud ..... Tim Clauson PS Don't get to used to it ;) |

Chad did a great job last night in both feature events. Not having driven a race car before, I would have to think that going from one car to another has to be difficult. Chad made the transition look easy as he brought home both feature wins. Bryan put on a show running the top and if he hadn't jumped the cushion I really believe he would have taken the lead. Unfortunately we will never know. I still like seeing both the midgets and the sprint cars on the same racing card. I wish more opportunities presented themselves. |

Re: Congrats Chad Boat !
It's good that you point out what we should really be focusing on, Tim. It was a really positive weekend. There was a lot that went on that made it a great weekend to be a race fan. We started the weekend by witnessing a young man win his first sprint race. Not only that, but he did so coming out of the B-Main. In a car made mostly of used parts. Winning one of the most prestigious races on the regional calendar.
Then on to Danville, where even though the track did deteriorate somewhat as the night went on, we still saw a late race pass for the lead and some really great battles. The Cummins-Williams duel someone pointed out, was excellent and Hud Cone put on quite a show, up on what was left of the cushion. Then what a way to end the weekend, with what was advertised as merely a sprint and midget double feature at Kokomo. Who knew that they were going to throw a Boat Show in, as a bonus? Both races were great and they had us out of there at a decent hour, even though they took some extra time to make sure the racing surface was prime for the main events. So, right now, we're right in between two sprint/midget doubleheaders, that sit smack dab in the middle of the space between Midget Week and Sprint Week. That's what I'm focusing on. I'll let the track and racing entity involved worry about some kid that didn't get his way, had a meltdown and threw a fit. Like Chris Petersen said, he himself is going to be the one who loses the most in that deal. Jerry |

Re: Congrats Chad Boat !
Two very good runs by that BOAT Team, glad I was there to see it! Getting home @ !:00am was kinda rough, getting up @ 5:00 was interesting but I made it though! Just wondering about the "reworking" of the track, I understand the sun in the west, but after the interviews and such it was prolly 30+ minutes till the features started.
Is this the "norm for Kokomo?" I am sure some of the "regulars" will let me know! Great show, all in all, glad that we went.:22: |
Re: Congrats Chad Boat !

Normally we get out at Kokomo Speedway around 10:00-10:30 PM and that is staying for part of a second feature to allow the real hot rods to get out of the parking lot.:3: We many times are leaving as early as 9:15-9:30 PM and a couple of weeks ago we left at 8:40 PM. The O'Connor's have done a great job with getting the show started on time and getting us out and on the road at a decent hour. I remember prior to their buying the track, that many times it was midnight or after and we were still waiting for the feature. Last night was a big race for Kokomo and they try to honor the legacy of Bob Darland and the entire Darland family. A truly great racing family and I always enjoy the extra time they spend talking to the drivers and allowing them to mingle with the fans. Also with sprint cars and midgets some extra time for push off is necessary. I don't know exactly why it took the extra time after the interviews but it may have been to allow the sprint car drivers time to make last minute car adjustments. Glad you were able to make the show and I hope you enjoyed the racing. Kokomo is now my favorite track as the racing is always top notch and the O'Connor family continues to provide a great facility to spend my entertainment dollars.:6: I know those tough Sunday night drives with an early Monday morning alarm.:29::15: |
