USAC @ Five Flags & Mobile?

I thought that somebody might comment on this today. Last night on the D.O. show Gregg Staab alluded to the possibility of USAC going to both Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL. and Mobile International Speedway in Irvington, AL. early in 2008. Nothing is certain as Staab is supposed to meet with the promoters within the week. He did not even mention whether it would be for sprints or midgets. I hope that these shows do come to pass. I have been to both tracks and either sprints or midgets would be good racing there. Also, if you are tired of being ripped off in Central Florida during Speedweeks it would be a good alternative. Both tracks are just south of I-10. Mobile is about 15 minutes west of I-65's junction with I-10 and Five Flags is maybe an hour or so east of I-65. Both are listed as 1/2 mile although Five Flags is a short half. It would make for a great early season trip.

Dwight,

I didn't catch the show, but I would love to see this happen. I am a big pavement fan as some know (I know once again that I'm in the minorty here). USAC really needs more pavement shows and I think these are great venues. Let's hope.

Yahoo! maps shows it being 831 miles to Mobile Int'l from Marion so about 14 hours one way. Not bad!:D

I wish South Georgia could be included as well. That is a very nice pavement track and would be good for both midgets and sprints, also. It's nice to see Greg thinking outside the box a little, especially when these races can come very early or very late in the season.

Oh yeah, Bobby Santos says USAC would be great on quite a few tracks out East!

So. Georgia is not too far from Pensacola. And I'm sure Bobby is thinking of Stafford, Thompson, Seekonk, Lee, and maybe Star to name a few.:thumb:

But if you are race team pulling down there that is around $650 in fuel roundtrip, hey USAC better ask for some tow money from the promoter!

1800 miles round trip from Indy in a rig that gets 6 mpg, if gas stays below$3.50 =$1,050

All I'm saying is that the gas money is just as much a hardship on a low - middle income race fan travelling as for a car owner. I can't even afford to eat at Mc Donald's on the way down, let alone own a sprint car and a toterhome. I've laid out a tremendous amount of money over the years just as a race fan. And there isn't even a purse that I can win to even try to recoup any of my costs when I get to the track.

It's a sliding scale, depending on how much $$$ you spend and how much $$$ you have. If you can't afford it, then do what I do - stay home. I hate it, but I do what I got to do.

I missed the show. Did D.O. happen to ask Mr. Staab about the Miller rumor that Mopar is taking over USAC?

Or we could get a few of us together to drive down and split the costs. Gas for my PT Cruiser - $230, Four days food - $120 each, Room w/ two beds and a cot - $50, admissions - $40 to $50, Misc. - $50 each. Total - $290 each. Doable!

Now that's original - not. It's no secret that I like pavement. Why do people have to point out to other people that they are wrong because of what they like?

So I'm assuming you'll stay home?:emote20:

On a trip like that I could comfortably take two besides myself with luggage. Three if one was skinny like your son used to be!:thumb:
