IMW - 'Burg - 6/13/09
Those of you coming to Lawrenceburg today be prepared to grab a hard left, then a right, after you enter the fairgrounds outer parking lot from US 50. The American Federation of Riders (all 30 or so of them) have commandeered the entire midway for the weekend. As I understand it, they'll let campers enter the midway for the token fee of twenty bucks. If you park in the outer parking lot and would like to walk through the midway enroute to the grandstand, that will only set you back ten bucks per. Sooooo, I invite you to join me and my Silverado over in the vicinity of the motorcycle track, behind the main (covered) grandstand and then proceed on foot to one of the spectator entrances or on over to the pit entrance. :15:
I don't know what the bikers have planned for car haulers and any others using the road to the pit area. We shall see what we shall see. :20: Weather here........oh yeh, couldn't be better as of right now (noon). |

Re: IMW - 'Burg - 6/13/09
We had a BARC cook out planned until Dave told us about this. Apparently it's a worthwhile function and maybe a few of them will stumble in and become fans!
Anyhow, I'm bringing my grandson for the first time and he is pumped! Me too. |
Re: IMW - 'Burg - 6/13/09
Any thoughts on who may be there in a sprint?
Who will be pulling double duty, Coons, Hmiel, Darland, Westfall... |
Re: IMW - 'Burg - 6/13/09
Chad Boat should be in both.

I ate lunch at Buffalo Soutwest Cafe and the bartender said they are expecting 400 Bikes. Where will everyone park. If they have a crowd as large as Bloomington for their track and considering The 'Burg is a lot larger track, they will be parking cars on US 50. My question is, who caused this conflict of interest? If The Burg scheduled this race knowing about the bike ride, shame them. If the Fairgrounds scheduled against the track, knowing there was a major event scheduled, then shame on the Fairgrounds. The racing was good at Bloomington and I was looking forward to another good night, but with situation as it is, I pass. I also noticed that there were very few blankets down and a considerable lack of campers that you have for a major show.Where will all the campers park that usually park by the shelter area? It will be interesting to see what happens. |

If you aren't bringing a camper or RV then why are you worried about it? Go park, find a seat and enjoy the races! What is the big deal? Yes, it will be confusing to some people, but it shouldn't be a deal breaker by any means, expecially if you know in advance to simply drive in the fairgrounds and GO TO THE LEFT. BTW - The city owns the entire fairgrounds INCLUDING the track. They call the shots. |
Re: IMW - 'Burg - 6/13/09
Don
You drove all the way from Indy and you won't go to the race because of a couple hundred bikers? If the lots get full(which I doubt) I am sure something could be done to shuttle people to and from the Casino lots down the street. I'm leaving for the Burg in just a few. |

Hell, if the Lawrwenceburg gestopo are going to accuse me of drug possession, what do you think will happen with 400 bikers. It could be fun. You might be right, maybe I should stay to see the excitement in the Midway. Might be better than the race. |
Re: IMW - 'Burg - 6/13/09
Do you hear voices inside your head too Dyno Don??
|
Re: IMW - 'Burg - 6/13/09
Like Don I passed on the race tonight. Glad I found out before I made the drive. I guess with be Burg I'll always have to call before I plan to go.
On the good side of things wasn't Bloomington great last night. |
Re: IMW - 'Burg - 6/13/09

Well, I went to a race once and they didn't have valet parking...so I turned it around and went home. Apparently, some of these guys need a shuttle bus and a tour guide, lol. |
Re: IMW - 'Burg - 6/13/09
What a bunch of crap. The two events are totally separated, By race time the Bikes are down to a hundred or so. Plenty of room on the Motorcycle track side and police assisted exit to Rt. 50. The only way I knew something was going on is occationally Id hear a band when no cars were on the track.

Re: IMW - 'Burg - 6/13/09
Sorry about your luck if you missed it. Brad Sweet made some amazing passes at the end and Clauson was awesome in the midgets! Levi Jones and Shane Hmiel running the wall and passing cars like crazy in the sprint feature was worth the price of admission. Hated to hear about the passing of Mel Johnson, he is an ICON at the Burg and made the place special. Heats were uneventful but Dyno Don you would have been out of there by 9:30 or earlier. Sorry we missed you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: IMW - 'Burg - 6/13/09
Well, to be honest, I never would have known anything thing else was going on there. This is even know I walked right by the motorcycle event that was going on. It was out of the way and there weren't that many bikes there. If I was in Lawrenceburg already, I sure wouldn't have left. Especially going by a "he said, she said" comment from someone working at a restaurant. I saw nothing wrong with have both events and there was no, and I mean no, conflict at all...
Great job by Bryan Clauson to hang in there and get a win. Also, kudos to Levi and Shane in the sprints. I was honestly waiting to see how many laps it would take for Levi to go up there. Shane saw it and followed him up there and did a great job at it! |
Re: IMW - 'Burg - 6/13/09
Much ado about little or nothing IMO. I'm genuinely sorry that I started this thread. I just thought it might help if IOW folks knew in advance what to expect with respect to parking. In retrospect, I should have emphasized that there would be ample parking in spite of the biker activities. It just never occurred to me that anyone would opt to go/stay home because they wouldn't be able to park in their usual spot. Motorhome folks and other campers may have been slightly inconvenienced but I didn't hear a lot of grousing about it. Enough!!!
400 bikers??? :17: They fell about 300 short of that I would guess. The features were great. :6: Kudos to Dave Rudisell for the heartfelt tribute to his great friend. That had to be tough. Whether you knew Mel or not, everyone involved in racing, in whatever capacity, lost a great friend yesterday. |
Re: IMW - 'Burg - 6/13/09
There wasn't enough bikers to start a good fight. At least dyno added another reason not to go racing

Re: IMW - 'Burg - 6/13/09
Just for the record, I knew nothing about the other event until I got there. The wife andI went in the way we always do with no problem. In fact I thoght it was the Flea Market. I enjoyed the entire evening, other than Mr Rudisell telling me the flag was for Mel Johnson. RIP

Jerry ---------- Post added at 12:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:58 AM ---------- After the heats were over, I'll be honest, I thought the prospects for great features were very dim. Passing was very tough and the turns were narrow. Drivers were mostly following each other down the same path. When I saw the sheep's foot out working the turns, I didn't feel a whole lot better, as I've historically never seen that implement do a whole lot of good. There must have been some magic, however, in this particular sheep's foot, on this particular night, as it seemed to transform this racing surface into the National Finals Rodeo, for those of the cowboy variety, in both sprint and midget fields. The midget race was definitely one of those that made you twist, turn and lean on the edge of you seat, as these guys gutted out their duels on this lightning fast, yet treacherous racing surface. Clauson, Buckwalter, Sweet, Kuhn and Hagen (among others) all showed that their will to win far outweighed their concern for their own personal safety, on this night. No points racing here, just four speed demons going for the gold. Although who would win the sprint feature was never in too much doubt, this was definitely the "Cowboy Up" race of the night. In a way, I'm glad the JCJ checked out a bit, because I spent a lot of the race watching Trucker's drivers Levi and Shane Hmeil just stand on the gas with both feet and ride the wall of this place, in a way that was reminiscent of Hewitt or Haud at the "Big E". This was also another night that Joss Moffatt showed that his driving skills far outweighs his racing budget. You see that every time out, though. I can't tell you how what a blast it was to watch these guys, last night. While the winner was never in doubt, this was one entertaining race!! And it was a very good show. Thanks Dave and crew. And Sandy for getting the results posted. Jerry |
Re: IMW - 'Burg - 6/13/09
My Kudos also to Dave and crew, also Sandy, for a good job. Also agree that all of the fuss about the Motorcyle group, which was very small and caused no problems other than some people not being able to park in their usual place. Race crowd was also smaller than I expected. Also agree with you Jerry on Joss Moffatt, he is much better than he gets credit for.

We pulled in around 3:15 PM with the motor home and had absolutely no problem finding a parking area. Dyno Don hasn't found a track yet to his liking. Hey Don, you should have asked one of the bikers to give you a lift up to the ticket window. You would look real cool in a side car.:3: Be careful not to ***** about the ride though, they might pull the pin on the side car:16 and off you go.:5:

It seems saying what you think upsets people when you talk about their home track. Go to Bloomington next Friday and see a good show. |
Re: IMW - 'Burg - 6/13/09
Wrong dyno doo, GAS CITY has thier mid summer doubler. All spots pay off is doubled, 2800 to win. plus its a dirt track.

All kidding aside, how can any race fan ever go wrong with either Bloomington OR Gas City? I'd love to have that choice every Friday night! Then on Saturday the choices multiply. You guys really do have it made. |

HOME TRACK! What on God's green earth would make you think that Lawrenceburg is my HOME track? I live in Anderson. A 2 hour trip to my HOME track!:5::15: You really don't have a clue, do you?:18: I also won't be able to make Bloomington on Friday as I will be at Gas City watching the doubler. I realize that you hate Gas City so enjoy Bloomington. I plan on being there the following Friday. Hopefully you will be there unless they have bikers, or super stocks, or modifieds, or a police drug search, or too many classes of race cars, or any other of a dozen excuses you seem to pull out of a hat on a weekly basis.:15: |
