We are extremely sadded to hear of Chad's death. I will always remember Chad as that super friendly guy with the huge grin coming over to our pits to see if we needed any help or to just say hi. The racing community is small in instances such as this, it hurts all of our hearts when a racer dies on the track. Best wishes to his family, our thoughts are with them.

Horrible news...my thoughts go out to the McDaniel family.

I received an email from Davey Ray's sister. Apparently he left the hospital last night after being treated for a broken kneecap, so at least we can be thankful that his injuries were relatively moderate.

I wrote an obituary for Chad McDaniel for Examiner.com. BestGas, I used your post as an example of the type of statements people are making about him today: a positive guy always will to help people. If you have a problem with it, please let me know and I can remove your quote.

Re: Chad McDaniel

For those who did not know Chad, he primarily raced with USAC/SMRS and any midget event in the midwest. Chad was a regular at the Chili Bowl. Chad always had a big smile on his face and was a true grass-roots racer. He will be missed by the racing community. Chad was the owner of a body shop in Concordia, KS and leaves his wife and two young children.

USAC has set up a memorial fund and as race fans we can greatly impact the family during this difficult time by opening our hearts and our wallets. We always enjoyed racing with Chad and battling him on the race track. God bless Chad and his family.

Re: Chad McDaniel

In a sport full of characters Chad was at the extreme end of the range of personal character. He was the most positive, sharing, and friendly character at the track. He loved racing and he loved helping his fellow racers any way he could. As a recipient of his generosity it is very difficult speaking of him in the past tense. That worn out old saying "he was a gentleman on and off of the track" never applied more. Chad is gone and we can't pay him back but we can "pay it forward" in the spirit that he displayed, and we can support his family and crew.

The racing community has lost a great man. My thoughts and prayers have been with his wife, young children, family, crew, friends and fans since learning of his passing yesterday morning. All racers feel the pain the McDaniel family are experiencing during this difficult time.

This a very sad news we will be keeping his wife, children and family in our thoughts and prayers. As a dad and race car owner driver I always look at these acidents and ask what can we learn from this tragic accident. I truly hope that we as a racing family will open our hearts and wallets very very wide. His wife and children are going to need a major support system.

I never met Chad, but I know his loss has impacted those of who I know; that knew him.

An example of his unselfishness happened a few weeks ago when a competitor had a brake caliper problem and he couldn't find any parts to fix it. Chad gave him the parts needed and then that driver went out and won his first midget feature. If it wasn't for Chad, he wouldn't of had a chance to win.
