Dickie was in the Stevens #2. Went from the tail to seventh. Brett Burdette took a WILD ride at the start of the feature, getting some SERIOUS ALTITUDE!!! I know he was taken to Dearborn county hospital for observation. I had not heard any word before I left. Excellent night of racing.

Great night of racing, Heats weren't much but the track came in. First time I actually seen em running on the wall.

Short took early lead and got a pretty big gap. Ballou had to work at getting second and once he got it, He rim rode. Ran down Brady and took off for the win. Short held a firm second. The third -5th battle could have blankets throw several times. Gullick/Hunter, Then Gullick /Westall all swapped several times. Faas ran well to get fourth, Westall fifth, gullick sixth

Dickie Gaines int he Stevens golden #2 from 21st to Seventh.

At the initial start Burdette took much the same ride Chad B took last year on the front stretch. All I seen was the car 40ft in the air. He got out under his own power, Was alert but sat outside the track in the ambulance for awhile and decided to go get checked out. HOPE YOUR OK BRETT! Also weir was they pushed the car to the pits Also had a Mod, Last years ROY take about six rolles down the front stretch after catching the end of the entrance wall

Good to see Joss Moffatt, Team CGR, Matt Westall, Faas and all who showed. Ballou actually said they had just decided to park for the weekend when they woke up to sunny skys. LOL Got him a win :) Casey Riggs who I met early on saturday at Eldora on the turn four fence had problems all night but did start the feature. ALso was nice to start the full field of 22. Ive watched consis over 21 cars.

Thanks to the Burg for not throwing in the towel three or four days early. Noon on raceday is fine by me :)

ALL RACING DONE AT 1020, Home 45 miles away at 1120

I do have one concern. Vcs had 47 cars and the burg had 22. The burg was the only track in indiana that raced sprint cars tonight. What gives. Are people afraid of the usac guys that run there on their nights off or is it the purse or size of the track. What's your opinion?

VCS is new to most of the people and most people dont like the new burg due to the long str8's......thats just my opinion

Anderson ran sprints, Had 17 cars. ANd thats Indiana.

A car that definately doesn't have top power went from 21st to 7th. I have seen very few sprints loose motors at the burg.. The wall. Well don't hit the wall :)

Re: Who's at The Burg tonight in a sprinter?

its not just that, its the fear of people thinking that they are going to get out horsepowered, but by feature time it just all comes down to drivers and like always cream rises to the top.

Did Burdette jump someones tire OR did he get launched in the air by that gigantic rock (as big around as a sewer lid) that the track workers (2) carried off the track???
And as far as the low car counts go I wish I knew why the cars are staying away ,its a shame. Is it the track (speeds and walls ) or is it the promotor or costs at the gate?????There has to be talk in the racing community as to why people are not coming there like they used to.......

For a lot of teams the length of the haul is a factor as well.

I think the admission costs, the haul, and the damage to equipment on a track of this type. This will also begin to affect fan counts with the economy like it is. We go where the cars are and the tracks have the best shows.

i could be wrong but i believe the purse is larger at the burg

Lazyifoto, What the track workers carried off was a chunk of clay that Brett tore off when his car dug in. Which we replaced with smaller pieces of damp clay and packed in.
Just the facts please, Dave

Re: Who's at The Burg tonight in a sprinter?

A lot of what all of you are saying is true. I have heard nothing but good things about the facility there and sure hope to see it some day. This is just our veiw no one else's. Putnam is 45min. VCS is 1hr 10min. Lburge 2hrs 15min. if the truck's running its using fuel. OPEN TIRE RULE I cannot see buying 2 tires at $200 each to run at one track. They are the only track not running a DT3. and as long as the guys there vote that's the way it will be and that's ok. Yes it is a big fast track with a wall but there are other tracks like Lburge. One thing in talking to a couple of USAC drivers is they say you have to be right on with the car cause there is not much room for error because of the speed. The only question I have is why are so many guys, gals, getting hurt there. We had a choice Saturday when Put. canceled and logistically and economically VCS made more sense. This is my view and only my view no one else but there may be others with the same.

Ahmen brother but I and others said this 3 years ago when they talked about making it bigger. I think a lot of the sprint guys are taking the same approach I am. Instead of being able to compete with the big pocket guys week in and week out. On this kind of track you have to pick your punches and try to come in and steal one a couple times of year. I loved running Eldora and had quite a bit of success at that place but I learned very quickly I had to rebuild my motors 3 or 4 times a year or I could run the old Burg a whole season before a rebuild. I won't even go into the difference in cost when your involved in a crash at each place. I think as far as getting crowds and making money I think they will do fine just don't expect the car counts they use to get at least untill the economy picks up.

well guys i know i won last night but ill tell you we had a little 12 head motor in there.....ran old tires all night and had no problems....in my opinion if you go to bloomington putnamville gas city little bull rings you have alot better chance of getting your stuff tore up...you go to a place like the burg its wide, 2 grooves of racing and no harder on your motor than the bull rings....you turn your motor the same rpm's no matter where you go and lets remember this in non-wing racing which = not hard on motors also they have the best purse for a weekly show its only common sense to me but that is just my opinion which means nothing....
Sincerely,
Robert Ballou

O K , wasn't trying to stir it up, it just looked like a rock the way they carried it and dropped it. It was big what ever it was.....

This is probably one big factor, with a lot of owners living near Indy it makes more sense, at least until the car count is so high that 20 cars are going home without any money coming in from the purse to offset the costs, The lower car count at the burg may offer some opportunities for a newer team to make the features more often. That and knowing your way around the Burg may be beneficial when the higher purse shows come around.

Re: Who's at The Burg tonight in a sprinter?

We paid $1500 to win and $225 to start last night and started all 22 cars. This weekend it will also be $1500 to win and $225 to start. If we have 20-24 cars we will start all cars in the feature. As far as a tire rule, i believe alot of guys that was in the top 10 each week ran the DT-3.
Thanks for everyones imput. Dave

Re: Who's at The Burg tonight in a sprinter?

Little late on posting but I know one thing that killed em this week was forcasters covering their asses with the RAIN scare Yeah there was a chance. I got up at 330am saturday to rain. GOt up sunday morning to Rain but all day and into the night saturday was Clear sailing Yet a potential visitor both competitor and fan said Theres a good shot its going to rain (Per every forcast I seen) We'll just stay home. The also said the further north the better the weather. SO I gather some teams and fans did that as well or didn't go at all.

All I can say is I apreciate every competitor that came and does race at The Burg. Its a exciting and fast place. The promotors promoting the hell out of it, Trying to raise purses. Allowes teams to run ARs if they have a deal with them probably at a loss to himself and the point fund and I too haven't seen guys on DT3s suffering much.

I can believe it uses some more fuel, Might wear a little more on the car. To be honest I've seen no more cars tore up on this track than the old one, Matter of fact what used to be pile ups are often now one car incidents due to room to avoid it.

To be honest, Last night was a HELL OF A SHOW! Full! Scratch that........ MOre than full field and all cars started the feature. Seen all classes and done by 1030 :6:
Look at it the other way, More cars didn't run the feature at VCS than did. I missed some people like Boespflug, Hupp ect. But we had Ballou! :8: Short, :6: Hunter, :9: Westfall :23: Gullick :17: Gaines :19: Faas :31: Riggs :28: Several guys who I never seen but did well at times and dialed in will be contenders and a really good field :)

Thanks for coming. I enjoyed it. The mod turnout was strong and stellar!
Chuck

Re: Who's at The Burg tonight in a sprinter?

Good job Dave! If you have 24 cars run 24 cars in the feature...a lot of track would only run 20 and have a B main that really didn't mean anything! Also, good job for putting additional money in the sprint car purse!!

Good Luck!
