US Postal System.

The outstanding postal system we have in this country destroyed my copy of this months issue of Sprintcar and Midget magazine. I say destroyed because the first 31 pages (yes 31 ages) are torn. Infact the first 10 pages have 2 elongated holes, one at the top and one at the bottom. After contacting the post office I was told they are not responsible for damaged mail if it's not insured.

So my options are limited. I can ask for another issue of the magazine sent at Sprintcar and Midget magazine's cost, I do the same as above but pay for it myself or I could go without.

No wonder people in this country hate the post office so much. Customer service is dead anymore.

I haven't recieved one in good condition in about 2 years. I don't think my post man or woman is a race fan. If they were they would understand they're very valuable to racefans and not just shove them in the mailbox by any means necessary. However Birds and Blooms show up in great condition every month. Imagine that!

RE: US Postal System...

I agree, it seems that you've got it pretty bad where you're at. I'm sure that someone's to blame, but including the entire United States Postal Service is a little harsh. It could have been a machined malfunction, or something like that. It doesn't mean that it was a person that made the mistake, but then again, it could have been...who knows!

My wife works for the USPS and she works very hard at what she does, including crazy hours and dealing with a lot of crap. Oh, that does included people's complaints, most of which are worse than this one. There are obviously a few bad apples in there, but I know of some that shouldn't be included in your rant.

Thanks...

File a written complaint with your local postmaster, and continue to do so everytime that you receive damaged mail. Write a letter and send it along with the Compalint form that the post office uses. You'll get some attention from the postmaster; and if the problems continue, remember that the postmaster has a boss, too. Just keep copies of everything that you report. It may take some time, but you will eventually get it fixed.

And let SC&M know of your problem: they may replace the damaged issue, but they also have some leverage with the post office at their end...Just don't give it up as a lost cause........

Mine was pretty chewed up this issue, too. Not quite as bad as yours, but certainly damaged. I only got about 2/3 of the cover, plus a few pages past torn.

I've had some trouble in the past, I quit taking NSSN because it got here so late, my PlayBoy mags usually showed up late, and used, but for the most part, I think they do a pretty good job, I ship a lot of stuff, and receive a lot of packages thru the USPS, and I'll have to say, it sure beats some of the other choices, price wise, and speed wise. I've sent a lot of stuff to Foreign Countries, and no problems, got some turbo hose the other day from Hong Kong, only place I could find what I needed, got it in 14 days, and the shipping was free, and the hose was only $20.00. DWB,

Perhaps you should contact the IOW board resident Postal Employee, Mr. Danny Burton.:9: Being the outstanding mail carrier that he is, he should be able to get this corrected in short order.:3: He knows all of the right people to call and to get your problem corrected. Hey DB, where are you?:17:

Didn't you know Danny Burton hogs them all, Uses bits and pieces for confetti and Section A has a party every week?

Poor old folks can't have any fun without being chewed out :)

Marv actually used a couple issues to try to get a fire going in the stove. That didn't work either :)

Chuck, To be honest, sometimes it has to do with you having a mailbox or a box with enough room to stuff it. and emptying it everyday.

I'm a big fan of the USPS myself. I have no relatives employed there and Danny B. is the only good friend I know on their payroll. When I consider that I routinely take cards, letters, invoices, whatever to the local post office, give them .42, and tell them "take this to an address in Atlanta.....or Dallas.....or even Columbus, IN.....or wherever" and they get it done in a couple of days. Amazing! Oh, occassionaly they'll screw it up. Just read a news item about a WWII vet receiving a letter mailed 65 years ago. Why was that newsworthy? I'd say it's because it is so doggone rare, even though they handle about a gazillion pieces each day. You might get private business to do a somewhat more efficient job with first class, but they typically don't want the whole tree, just the cherries (no 2nd and 3rd class). I don't even mind the so called "junk mail". I welcome it. Gonna use some pizza coupons later this afternoon, in fact. Peruse what interests me and recycle the rest.

Like most every large organization (not just within government), the USPS can stand frequent reviews and periodic adjustments, but all in all, I think they rock. JMHO, as always. :22:

Did I word that O.K. Danny?? ;)

The post office is Arcaic and close to dead they way it is set up right now.

It is out of date and costing the tax payers millions a year that it could be saving if it had to account for its own finances

Call Doug Auld and let him know he is very good about taking care of issues that post office has messed up

Just to confirm my old fogie status, when I was a kid it was 3 cents to mail a letter and a penny to mail a post card.:)

Re: US Postal System.

I have not received an undamaged copy of my SC&M magazine in quite a while also.

Could it be because of the cover material that the magazine uses gets caught up in the postal machines?

I get subscriptions to many different magazines and this is the only one that is consistently torn up. What's interesting is that the SC&M would appear to have stronger cover material than most of the other magazines that I get, also more slippery.

I wonder if Doug Auld and the team would consider looking into this and change the thickness or material of the covers. I hate to put it on them, but it is the only magazine consistently torn up.

I feel the white fellow's pain. The biggest enemy of the USPS is...the USPS itself. Customer service has been sacrificed at the alter of cost cutting. And I'm still waiting on issues of a racing newspaper that hasn't been delivered here since February.

I can say that Doug mails SC&M at a lower rate than 2nd class, or periodical mail. That may or may not have anything to do with it.

And I do get tired of having to explain stuff like this that happens when it should not happen. So, DWB and others, raise holy hell with the postal "service" and/or your elected representative and anyone else. It's a damned shame that it should come to this, but there is no other way for the time being.

27 months and 24 days, then I join Marv in retired bliss.

It still only costs 3 cents to mail a letter. It just so happens that the storage charges are now 39 cents.:5::15::14::10: Sorry DB, don't go postal on me.

I worked at magazine printing plant for about 30 years. Chances are, the post office recieved your magazine in the same condition you recieved it in.

My parents run into NSSN being delivered late about every 2 to 3 years for the last 20 years. It usually starts to be only a day or 2 late, then 3, then 4, and so on. They finally get tired of it and complain to their local post office, immediately after each complaint it begins showing up on time. Apparently someone at the New Palestine Post Office is a NSSN fan that is too cheap to pay for it.
