Twin Cities Raceway April 4th concerns...
I would like to thank Twin Cities Racway for the April 4th sprint race and paying extra money for sprint cars and Don Short of Indiana Stone Works!!!
However...I have a few concerns: I don't understand the reason to have 5 classes of cars...nor will I ever...when you have a special race (sprint cars) with a larger purse you only need 2-3 total classes. I think someone said Sprint cars would run first ALL night and it didn't happen...in fact the mini sprint feature had 23 laps of caution mixed in with their 20 lap feature that they ran FIRST... The most important concern: Track prep or the lack of...I arrived at 2PM on Saturday and was surprised to see the track had NOT been touched for the races on Saturday...you could see the erosion down the track from the latest rain...Track prep is that track prep not running around the track with a sheeps foot a few laps only a few hours for the racing starts...You get out of track prep what you put into it....example Bloomington, and Tri-State Speedways...I know everyone can't have all the nice John Deere equipment that Tom Helfrich has, and Mike Miles, at Bloomington Speedway does not either...He puts time into track prep and gives the racers and fans a good track week after week!...I understand the sun was out yesterday and it was warmer...I understand some work was done on the rough track conditions from the week prior, but I think a dry slick, dusty track in early April is very preventable!! Re: Twin Cities Raceway April 4th concerns...
I can see your points, But everybody Including Anderson cancelled for this weekend and TCRP ran. If he knew how much rain or how little Im sure he would have watered accordingly.
Just glad they got a race in. Chuck, Also wondering if the double features didn't have something to do with the running order. Im possitive it had to do with the running later as they run em off. Doesn't bother me the extra classes if they run em off. Quote:

Re: Twin Cities Raceway April 4th concerns...
I think the double features caused it to run late. But you can always get up and leave if its past your bed time.:D Just kidding i left early but got to see alot of good races before i left. The track was a little dusty early but it was better after the sun went down and some rubber was laid down.It was better than the week before. In all I thought it was pretty good,COLD though.

Re: Twin Cities Raceway April 4th concerns...
Double features...It was dry slick in hot laps before the rained out features....
Also I think it rained Thursday PM and Friday AM...so why begin track prep Saturday at 3PM??? Just doesn't make sense! Should we just be happy with "Well, at least they got the race in" attitude? After all, we pay good money, gas money, etc...we all love sprint car racing, and after all....without us, the dedicated sprint car fans, why shouldn't we expect more?? SPD 37 |

Of course we all want the best possible track. Thats why I said I see your points. However He could have called it thrusday like a lot of others did. That my opinion. The worst night of racing is better than staying home to me. I had to do both due to working till 6pm then having to work today at 5am. The tracks 2hrs away :( Chuck |

Re: Twin Cities Raceway April 4th concerns...
The change in rotation with starting Mini Sprints first was to ensure that the SPRINT consi cars had an ample amount of time to prepare their cars for the feature.
|
Re: Twin Cities Raceway April 4th concerns...
AND to give ample time for the people in the first feature to get ready for their heat!
|
Re: Twin Cities Raceway April 4th concerns...
Ok, maybe I wasn't very clear....I should have said they should have ran the sprint feature (2nd one first) first before mini-sprints...at that point in the program there was plenty of time to get ready...after the Sprint B mains there was a street stock B main and only 4 sprint cars had to get ready after the two sprint B mains...sorry I wasn't very clear...
|
Re: Twin Cities Raceway April 4th concerns...
Track was terrible. There was obviously very little effort put into it. That's about all you can say...it's the same thing I saw the one time I went there last year. What gives?

I wasn't there so I don't know, but most dirt tracks that I've been to that have been threatened by rain, or rained on earlier, are sealed over so they don't get destroyed by rain. |
Re: Twin Cities Raceway April 4th concerns...
I was there and yes it was dusty but the racin was great. Bland from the back in the first feature was off the hook. And to Broc Burton, was sorry to read what happened to you. Hope everything turns out good and your back in the car soon.

Re: Twin Cities Raceway April 4th concerns...

RE: Twin Cities Raceway: April 4th Concerns...
I didn't think that it rained on Friday. If not the whole day, then most of it. Plus, I didn't think the threat of rain was coming until Sunday?
Just curious... |
Re: Twin Cities Raceway April 4th concerns...
They had almost 2 inches of rain through out the week so Im sure they left it sealed to keep it from being rough....
|
Re: Twin Cities Raceway April 4th concerns...
The day of the race, no rain in the forcast until Sunday....track prep started at 3PM...that's not good....you can't run the sheeps foot around 3-4 laps and call it track prep....no one cut the track and the amount of water put on the track was to little to help...it's has nothing to do the rain from Thurs PM or Friday AM...You have to spend the time to prep the track!! and not just a few hours the day of the race.....
|
Re: Twin Cities Raceway April 4th concerns...
A certain track in Southern Indiana starts prepping its track for its next race right after the latest event has finished and continues that track prep all the the way up until the next race has begun.
Yes we are spoiled down here and we like it. :applaud: |
Re: Twin Cities Raceway April 4th concerns...
Dont know who it was we followed through bedford but whoever it was nice big enclosed trailer with a dealer plate ending in 8308 or 3803...thought it was dont short but couldnt tell when we turned but whoever it was the very left rear trailer tire was locking up and smoking when the brakes were applied ...

Re: Twin Cities Raceway April 4th concerns...
I'm surprized nobody mentioned the Dq's. I saw John Memmer out on the track for the B main and he wasn't doing anything different than most of the other drivers and they Dq'd him from the race. If they thought he was running too fast under the yellow, why not put him to the back?
Missing the scales definately affected a few drivers also. curt |
Re: Twin Cities Raceway April 4th concerns...
5-6 cars in each super stock in heat race...taking soooo long to get lined up..once a car spun then got restarted they would line the cars up...why didnt they do it when they were tryin to restart the spun car ...i think we needed more people to attend a car that spun....i counted 14 people at 1 car ....

Re: Twin Cities Raceway April 4th concerns...
THANKS DON SHORT FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND TO ALL THE RACER AND FANS FOR A GREAT WEEKEND. THE TRACK WAS DRY AND SLICK WE DID OUR BEST TO KEEP IT COMING APART. WE DID PRACTICE WENSDAY AND THE RACE TRACK WAS COMPLETLY CUT ON THUR. SO SAYING THE TRACK WAS NOT TOUCHED IS ALONG WAY FROM THE TRUTH. WE DID EVEN CUT SOME DIRT OFF OF TURN 3 SAT. WE DID GET 2 IN OF RAIN THUR. INTO FRI. MORNING. THE SPRINT DRIVERS DID ASK TO RUN SECOND TO HAVE TIME AFTER MAKE UP FEATURES. AS FAR AS OTHER CLASSES I WILL NOT RUN THAT MANY NEXT YEAR, JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE WOULD HAVE A GOOD CAR COUNT. BUT THE FANS DO SUPPORT SPRINTS AND I AM GLAD OF THAT. SO WE WANT TO MAKE THE RACE A EVERY YEAR THING. NEXT YEAR WE WILL RUN LESS CLASSES,MORE CONCESSION FOOD,WETTER TRACK,LESS DUST, AND MORE FUN!!!!!. THANKS TO ALL MASON FLEETWOOD:thumb

Re: Twin Cities Raceway April 4th concerns...
This was our 1st time visiting Twin Cities and we had a very enjoyable time. I agree the track prep could have possibly been better, but thats not up to me anyway. Getting to see 2 sprint features was great, Bland from the rear for the win was exciting to witness. The sprint $3000 feature was a good one and seeing Clauson and Mezzerall battling for the win on the last lap going into turn 3 was priceless. Darland from 18th to 2nd and Slammin' Scotty Hampton in 5th was awesome too! Congrats to Faas for the win.
Thanks to Don Short for sponsoring the big money show and thank you Twin Cities for a night of sprint car racing when there wasn't any happening anywhere else in Indiana. I truly felt like the people working/running the place have a passion for racing not just the money. Please keep the passion and the money will come anyway. |
Re: Twin Cities Raceway April 4th concerns...
i know some of you r complaining about track conditions but i for one would much rather have the track the way it was as to muddy sloppy conditions where there is no passing in heats because of one lane racing.... ther was passing all night both low and high...there was a little dust but the racing was visible all night... in our opinion kudos to the track prep... :checkered: usually the wetter the track at north vernon the rougher it is...:Steer

I have seen hundreds of sprint car races in my lifetime and have never seen anybody DQ'd for hot lapping as noted in the Quoted post. I have seen many a driver warned with the red and chastized by officials, but never anybody disqualified. I was not there, but Memmer must have been out of control and totally disregarding any actions of track officials for this to happen. |

Re: Twin Cities Raceway April 4th concerns...
I did see alot of guys gassing it up also, not sure what car it was but there was one car that shot past the pace truck after all the cars had been pushed off. If that was him then i can understand the DQ. Like I said, I dont know alot of the drivers and what car they drive so it might not even have been him.

Re: Twin Cities Raceway April 4th concerns...
I don't have a lot of tolerance for slick dusty tracks but, I've seen much worse and the racing was excellent. I have no complaints (for once!!:O:). I also want to thank the Short family for their contribtution to the sport.

I will have to agree with SPD 37 i was there. the team i work for wasnt there and i'm glad we werent. i too drove all the way from up north to watch a great race and turns out the track was crap. and the wonder why USAC quit showing up for sprintweek. The support clases needs to be kept to a min of at least 3 when the sprints are in town look at bloomington or gas city those kinda tracks 3 clases weekly and when its a big sprint show they run just 1 other class. well SPD 37 hopefully we'll get to see you up north like gas city the 17th

Re: Twin Cities Raceway April 4th concerns...
Darland and Ballou were in the b due to not having the correct right rear tire on and they blew by the check point

I had no complaints about the track conditions... my eye however had other thoughts lol, I thought for as much rain and such, the track was really smooth, and I completely agree with Don Short, whats the point in going to a race and watching a hot lap session all night, sure its cool to watch us go fast, but I would rather be able to pass instead of driving around wide open |
