USAC Midget Trivia

Things are slow so we'll throw some trivia out there. Fifty years ago in 1957 USAC midgets competed at 7 Indiana ovals. Name them. Hints - 5 were paved, 2 were dirt, and 5 still exist today.

No Speedrome in '57. All Indianapolis area races were at 16th St.

My question was meant to include outdoor ovals only. But, since I didn't say that, you are correct. We still need two more.

Illiana Motor Speedway

Re: USAC Midget Trivia

I'll give one hint for each track. One is a half mile paved track that still exists. The other was a 1/5 mile paved track that closed forever at the end of the 1957 season (9/27/57).

Correct. Now we just need the one that no longer exists. It was northwest of Indy.

This is a really tough one. So I'll tell you that it was in Lafayette and was at the site of what is now the Tippecanoe Shopping Plaza.

Trivia question #2 - In the decade of the 1980's only two USAC midget drivers were able to put together a four race winning streak. Who were they?

Some "alarm"! I think everyone fell asleep. So we'll get another question working. Who won the first Silver Crown race of his career 10 years ago today? (10/18/97)

That late in the year, I'm thinking a pavement race south somewhere. I think they ran in Springfield in October of 96 for a fairtime rainout. I will say Dave Steele. He is a good pavement guy.

Tony Stewart is correct. Although he won the SC title in '95 as part of his USAC Triple Crown, he did so without benefit of winning a race. On 10/18/97 Stewart won at the 1/2 mile in Las Vegas for his first career SC win. Prior to that he had competed in 42 SC events with his best results being 5 seconds and 4 thirds.
