Well it looks official, Non Winged Sprints at the DTWC

This year Carl Short has a special treat for the fans in attendance. The economy isn’t in the best of shape and everybody is looking for the best value they can find when it comes to entertainment. Ticket prices have remained the same for over ten years now even though the purse has continued to go up each year. For a $40 general admission ticket fans have been able to see 3 days of great racing with over a hundred late models and over a hundred Modifieds. This year, Short is adding a $5,000 to win non winged Sprint show, while still holding the line on prices. “Forty dollars for the $50,000 to win DTWC, a $5,000 to win non winged Sprint show and a $3,000 to win modified show has to be as good as it gets” Short stated.

All we need now is a Dave Rudisell confirmation. But its looking set in stone

Does this mean we have to sit through a late model race before the main event?:O:

I just hope that some of you guys realize that this is the premier event for Late Models and Sprint Cars are just there for support.

Hopefully everyone can attend this event at least once in their lifetime.

Chris, will you be hosting a party at Lawrenceburg for this event? An all you can eat all you can drink type deal. If you sell it we will come, if we leave happy we may come back.

To each their own, they didnt have to add the Sprints.

Re: Well it looks official, Non Winged Sprints at the DTWC

Some folks will turn their noses up at the latemodels. Some will shun the modifieds and some will use the sprints as an opportunity to visit the restrooms. And SOME of us, like me, will enjoy all of them.

Re: Well it looks official, Non Winged Sprints at the DTWC

A horrible decision on many accounts.

The Sprint Cars are an unnecessary addition to the DTWC. There's plenty of other opportunities for good, high-paying sprint car races. Don't water down a premier Late Model weekend with it.

The addition of the Sprint Cars just enables people like Dan Hetser to proudly boast their ignorant hatred of anything closed wheel.

What a slap in the face of the KK, as if I wasn't thrilled enough already with the new Lawrenceburg.

Dirt track world championship. As far as some of you guys bashing before you have all the facts in past years the Mods run everything but a consi and feature on Thursday night. I don't know how it will work this year but I would imagine Saturday night would only have features and Consis. So you really don't have to sit through much and if you have ever been to a race with over 100 cars ( I know that doesn't ever happen in the sprints but hang in there) by the time you get to the feature you are going to see the best in the country battling it out so you usually don't have a bunch of yellows. If you guys want to complain about something before you have all the facts I would be more concerned with the racing surface providing more than one groove on the bottom.

Gentleman start your bashing.:greenflag: Even though some of you jumped the start.

this deal is much bigger then the kk. i dont think dave r. added the sprints to the show. the way i understand it, the promoter of the DTWC added the sprints. not 100% on that though.

Charles Nungester 3/4/09 9:01 AM

Re: Well it looks official, Non Winged Sprints at the DTWC

The only thing that bothers me about it is the 10pm schedualed start time of a hundred lap feature. Do the Sprints run before that? Not that Id plan on leaving but I do work weekends. I had planned on switching a weekday for sat and still making work sunday.

I think its great the track gets a big show post season. Honestly tracks are making 0 money on regular shows anymore unless their heavily sponsored. Great news for Bozo!

Chuck, who kinda has a problem with someone bitchin about a race being held when there is normally 0, Nadda, Nothing going on by that time of year cept a race 180 miles away that hasn't been drawing a huge count anyway

Hope you're right on that, I'd hate to think that DR would deliberately schedule this on a weekend that literally has 2-3 weeks on either side of it with nothing going on, non-wing wise.

You're right, Chuck. The Klash drew somewhere around 250 cars in 2007 and just shy of 300 last season. I wouldn't call that a "huge count" at all.

Just so everyone knows the third weekend of October has been the traditional date for the DTWC since 1981. Lawrenceburg did not schedule it on purpose, its just tradition.

The DTWC is the Dirt Track World Championship, started in 1981, other than the World 100 is the premier race in Dirt Late Model racing. Paid $30,000 to win back in 1981 and now pays $50,000 to win.

Thats not what I meant. I was talking sprints that the so called Mud Cab basher cared not to visit. So what, LBurg has one race against the KK on any normal saturday night there are FIVE TRACKS running them, Waynesfield, VCS, Put, Paragon, LBurg and sometimes a big show at Tri State, Eldora or wherever.. THE DTWS went on before now. I can only see the addition of sprints to the card as one more option for drivers and a show I may actually want to go to because of. I surely can't make the 4hr trip to Kokomo and still make work sunday at 5am or even church at 9am for that matter

Chuck,
P.S. I don't have anything against Cecil either. What I meant in the whole thing is the race is replacing NOTHING so why ***** about it?

Is there a published purse breakdown for the sprints or will this be a "M"issing "S"ome "C"ash "S"eries type breakdown? Where it`s 5000 to win and 250 for eighth? I have been asked by more than one late model guy how non-wing sprints can afford to race so cheap . The guys at Mastersbuilt are in disbelief at the abundant car count at a 2-3 thousand to win show.

Well enough of the economic disparity crap. I hope the show goes off flawlessly and everyone involved has a wonderful time. :checkered:

I don't have a clue what you are talking about. Yeah, maybe it does pay the same to start an MSCS and a L-burg event, but you get the chance to run for some big bucks. First of all Haubstadt is a long drive for Indy based teams. Secondly when the STADT and L-burg are running on the same night 40+ cars (including Robert Ballou, Daron Clayton, Brady Short, Jeff Bland, Dave Darland, etc) are at Haubstadt when L-burg gets what 25. Now would these 40+ cars drive to Haubstadt if the MSCS were short on $$$? Now I would like to make myself clear, I am not trying to bash L-burg. L-burg is a great facility and has a hard working promoter. I just think it is stupid to bash the MSCS when they have done a lot of great things for sprint car racing. If you don't like the MSCS just don't go to the races.

If that is what you call someone who is signed up for the selective service. I am not interested in getting involved in a name calling fight because that seems childish to me, though I am tickled to death that you took the time out of your day to find out all the info you could about me. Back on topic this sounds like a great event and if I have the time and/or $$$ at this point in the season I will be attending this race.
