Favorite track not on USAC's schedule

The thread about favorite tracks no longer around made me think of this. No DA tracks please!!:D

I'm going with Pevely, Mo. (prolly get a bunch of votes for that one) followed pretty close by I-30 Speedway in Benton, Ark.

Midget schedule, Belle-Clair hands down!

Add Lincoln, PA to the Eastern Swing for sprints. Bridgeport, NJ for the Silver Crown. Bring the midgets back to Winchester!

Out of left field: North Wilkesboro.

Imagine USAC's Silver Crown cars there. Or their stock cars, back when they had a stock car division.

Wouldn't mind seeing a Sprint or Midget race at the Big O. Thompson Speedway would also make a good track for the old-style Silvercrown cars if that rumor I hear is true.

Are you meaning you have never seen a good midget race at Sun Prairie? I went when they had the sprints and it wasn't that great.

Re: Favorite track not on USAC's schedule

Glad you brought this up Danny if USAC is so intent on being a feeder system to nascar why don't they just reinstate their stock car division of old? And do away with those ugly things. Have a over all points champion. Midget, Sprint, Big Car, and Stock Car. That would catch my interest. There should be alot of old nascar cars to buy after this year. Run alot of double headers sprints/midgets Big Car/Stock Cars Just a thought. And get Chris Nunn and Kimb Stewart to team as a all star anounsing team. THIS COULD ONLY HAPPEN IN A PERFECT WORLD

Yeah never seen a good midget race there. At first I thought I went there on an "off" night. When it happened 3 times I figured the racing just wasnt all that I heard it to be. Facility is great though!

Ken Scrahder and I ran Paragon many years back and it is one hell of a fast track. For all you fans that say they let off early going into a corner, well try letting it all hang out into number three and hope grandma hasen't parked in the front rows of the lot. SMILES FOR THE OFF SEASON

If Spoon River was prepared properly, and that is a big if, it would be my first hope. I could see sprints at least 3 wide and midgets 4-5 wide.

Benton, MO... Auto Tire & Parts Raceway... only been there once, but it was a nice facility with an awesome track... black, and I mean black dirt bullring that started out tacky and got even more moisture as the night went on...

I agree with those that said The Ditch (W.Memphis). I also have got to add Tazewell, TN.

Note to Seadog; I think (take THAT for what it's worth!) that USAC did visit Lanier 20 some years ago.

Close to 20 years ago. I was at Lanier the for a USAC midget show and then a sprint show the next year(?) First time I saw Jimmy Kite race a midget (Subaru powered). Home town boy. The thing pushed so bad that he ended up putting it in the wall. Johnny Capels had his beautiful Golden Greek # 21 sprinter there. I really liked the track and they put on a good show there.

That was a great little track. Worked a race there in about 2000. What happened to it?

The Silver Crown at a 5/8 like Bridgeport would be cool. How about the sprints at Sedalia's half mile. Also at Route 66, it's dissappointing that they use that track for little more than monster trucks and demolition derby. Midgets at Jacksonville.

Be careful want you wish for. One year they ran a two day show of usac midgets on the Calistoga half mile. They wore out there hardest dirt tire in 15 laps. On Friday to Saturday the rich owners went south to get pavement tires. So called clay track Never been back because of the tire bill!:angry-smiley-007:

The 3/8 mile track at the Indiana State Fairgrounds a track that was built inside the mile and used part of the front straight from the old mile. Plenty of seating and they did not need a catch fence. Really brought in some money for the state who put the money right back into the community and helped a area that really needed some help. I thought that it was great they gave the concessions rights to the locals best Barbecued ribs in the world were sold there. Hats off to Jeff Bland who won the first track championship there.......................................Oh my god this has not happen yet. Back to sleep I go.

It was about 5 years ago when I went there with a buddy of mine... They ran weekly wing sprints with a few other classes... heard they quit running sprints a couple years ago... I just loved the place, plus it was a track my dad had never been to so I was one-up on him. :emote20:

Drew I believe it was the next night at Farmington that I met you and pops haha! I was at Benton that same night as well. It was a $5K to win race. Track was treacherous as I remember several guys flipped during the featch. Clayton was there with the wing of course as that was his first year in a sprinter. He was leading the featch but wound up getting into a incindent with Chuck Amati who was driving one of the Cravens cars (#1c I think). Tommy Worley won over Kraig Kinser.

Yes the track opened up again this year after a near three year hiatus. A guy from Sikeston, Mo. named Billy Clayton (maybe a cousin to Daron) is helping to promote the racing. I think the track is still struggling to get a good crowd like in the past though.

I saw some great races at that place over the years. Reminds me of Haubstadt alot.
