Lawrenceburg Thoughts , Rumors and way to much time on the road.

Personally I loved the track last night, raining mud at the end of the featch was awesome. The last 3 laps between Ballou and Swindell was worth the trip.

Still not a fan of the blind draw.

Sammy Imel was an absolute stud last night!

Last night proved once again why one way radio's would make for a better show.

There were a lot of unnecessary cautions.

I missed Kimb Stewart.

Cool seeing a Big $$ show attended by the best of the best in the midwest.

Its really easy, If you don't line up the first time you are told were to go black flag em.

Don't be pissed at the scorers when your car number 12 with a little c is confused with a car number 12 with a little g on the line-up.

Was it by design that the only accomplishments announced for the drivers were those that were attained with MSCS?

jj ones is really a pretty cool guy who just can't spell.

While some thought K stud was unlucky when he crashed out early last night, I saw who he got to sit next to the remainder of the evening and some may say he is the luckiest guy in the place.

A thanks to Fox Bros and Truckers /
As good as Stanbrough and Clayton are few could of argued if they loaded up after heat race mishaps relegated them to the first of 2 C main's. Seeing them roll out knowing that the prospect of getting to the "A" was slim at best and the risk to equipment on such a cowboy up track would surely cost them $$ not make them $$ I thought to myself that this was the ultimate show of respect to the sport and the fans knowing that some if not most came out and paid to see them put on a show.

Speaking of Stanbrough / Clayton .... Do I sense a rivalry forming ?

Great run for Dakoda Armstrong Heat winner and a solid top 10 in the featch.

Wish this was a two day event.

Other thoughts, Fact, Rumors ....

Sweet to KKR ? Hearing that when Swindell leaves for a (can not mention here as this is an openwheel board ) That Brad Sweet will fill the seat vacated.

Stenhouse to ....... Again would love to fill this in but will not on an openwheel board.

Hunter - Wanting to make sure he had an oppurtunity when USAC heads west, Hunter % landed in the Yeley ride, just to affirm just how good this kid is he had Jack smiling even after missing the florence "A" I mean come on Jack smiling at all..... Giving Hunter % his first midget go netted a top 5 go at Little Belleville.

Who are the top 5 drivers who can crossover? Sprint/Midget Dirt Pavement?

When the track is Rough stand on the gas give me Ballou When smooth as silk slick give me stanbrough when its paved give Booby East but when you have to tackle all 3 give me Darland.

Ok .. Thats enough .. I am off to watch the NASC.....er Football Game

Can I mention football here?

Well i thought the track was just getting good at the end of the race the bottom never came in well enough to run two grooves it was around the top and hope the guy in front of u messed up enough for u to get by, the only thing that saved the race was the class of drivers that was there i mean they put on an ok show 81 started on the front row 9 started in the forth row darland started in the 3rd row thats ur top three then fourth was 57 shuman , and fifth anderson, they drove a hell of race to come from the 12th(shuman) and 14th(anderson) starting spot for being with teams that do not have the money like the cars they are running against.. Shuman also came from dead last in his heat to finish 2nd ,i am sure there was other good runs for people but shuman has really cought my eye, winning 6 or 7 races bouncing from car to car. It would be cool to see him get a shot in a top notch ride.

Mr. Clauson I think some of your comments were directed towards me. I think it is alright to talk about non open wheel racing now. You just have to watch your spelling. Do you mean feature race or featch race? Are you related to Bryon Clauson the ARCA driver? If you are I think he is a very good driver.

For4, just funnin a little, Sorry I did mean "feature race", In California where I am originally from we got so busy that we shortened the name of some of the races to conserve time. I agree we need to watch the spelling on here and sadly I am probably one of the worst offenders. In the interest of being precise I have no relation to ARCA driver Bryon Clauson.

Thanks!

the Burg is a very nice place and even though the track was extreemly fast in only one groove, I felt like the banking and the lip on the straight-a-ways caused a lot of the yellows and was also the reason drivers couldn't find other lines to make their passes. I'm not complaining at all, just thinking of how the Burg could of been more racy with the great field of drivers that were there lastnight.

Im hiring Tim Clauson as my PR guy. I try to say the same things he does but make a fool out of myself doing so.

Chuck, Who says at least Brad Sweet tried to clear up his Midget week blunder after getting beat by a old hat

Kevin will get booted out of the big leauges if you ask me and sadly it won't have anything to do with HOW FAST HE IS.

I dont know just my opinion but i went wanting to watch a race, the only interesting part of the night was the last 7 laps of the feature or so. I didnt go to the races expecting to see hot laps all night because thats basically all i saw. I saw the same amount of passing as you would see on a rubbered down race track.

Missed Kimb Stewart too. MSCS announcer Racin' Jason did an excellent job in Kimbs absence but I have to tell him Zac Osborn is in the 11z car, not the 1-1-2 car.:emote20: Good job Jason. Wished I could have met you Saturday to say hello.

I will second, third or whatever the great job Sammy Immel did in the ex-Besecker sprinter. Hopefully Sammy will come to the 'burg more often next year.

Excellent night of racing by Dakoda Armstrong.

What can you say about Robert Ballou except, WOW!!

Happy to see for the first time this year, and sit next to, Dwight Clock. Also was among a great group of irregulars that included Fishburger, Ed K., Jerry Shaw and his steady, Dan H and his better half, DannyB, TJtomthumb and John (don't tell me about missing a race because of a wedding) Hoover. :emote20:

Already missing the 2007 racing season and it isn't quite over.:crying:

as for the "where was Kimb question"

She was fired from her job by email - I don't think I need to say more.

So she was asked to work a broadcast of the UMP Late Model race at Eldora where I am sure she did her homework as always and worked hard.

Personally, I have a feeling that there are some pretty big things on the horizon for Kimb. Watching and listening to her do the IRP deal especially the trackside interviews, I have always wondered just when a broadcast outlet might pick her up. I hope "the email" is the push she needed to further herself in her chosen field. With all of the great announcers here in Indiana there is none better at engaging a driver and getting them to tell "their story" then Kimb Stewart.

I first remember Kimb as a replacement announcer for Amy East at 16th Street. I thought she did a great job then and still does a great job today. I have met her and talked to her a couple of times and I think she is one of the nicest, friendliest people you could ever meet.

She's first class and does a great job. I too think bigger things are ahead for Kimb in the racing world.

Hey IndyCar or USAC, you need this girl.

That is a chicken$%&t way of doing business. You show no class as an organization by firing someone by email. I just thought she was working at IRP. Gee, she was HARF announcer of the year last year but deserving of being fired this year...I dont think so. I think Mr Rudesill was listening to a very few detractors on this board when the majority appreciated her efforts. What began as a year with much promise at the 'burg has declined over the last half of the season. Now someone is convinced that it needs to be 3/8 all that will get you is bigger wrecks and strain on the weekly racers budgets when their engines need to be freshened more frequently and the repairs are more expensive due to the increased speeds.

Wow :( !! Not my track, not my money, and I suppose not really any of my business. But, I have to say that on the surface this appears classless and I have come to expect a more professional business acumen from the Rudisell regime.

When I posted in another thread of the hard work by the 'Burg crew, I was including Kimb in that group. Every event had her circling the pit area, clipboard in hand, getting all the pertinent information. Never heard her mispronounce a driver name (Mike WEEBER & others ?) be they sprint, mod, pure stock, pro stock, mini-sprint, whatever. I wish Kimb all the best in her career and expect to see/hear her at IRP and other racing venues come '08 and beyond.

I have yet to hear from anyone who is in favor of increasing the track's size next year, and this is in talking to Sprint and stock car drivers as well as fans. I also was part of a conversation Saturday that included Terry Eaglin, a weekly L'Burg Sprint car driver and his wife, and a few others. Terry of course hears from many in the racing circles, and to quote him...."I have not heard from One person, and I mean One (as he holds up his finger) person who is favor of making the track bigger". He seemed to think car counts will eventually drop over time. The sprint driver and his wife, are also concerned as to the their future in running next year, with increased cost to run competitively, and the added danger of running as fast as they will run if the track is prepared anywhere near what it was Saturday. This whole thing is the brainchild (I shouldn

Agree 100 percent with itsnonwingthing about the expansion of the track.

As for the situation with Kimb Stewart, I was of the feeling that her services were very much appreciated and I thought Dave said so himself on an IOW.com post around the time of the server upgrade. If she has indeed had her employment terminated in such a manner it is very disappointing. Announcers like Kimb Stewart do not come along every day. Hopefully Dave can clear the air on this matter with an explanation.

I think your making my point, if Lawrenceburg is to continue to be a weekly track (which I thought the talk was of a "Special Shows" only track for '08, and this has apparently changed, maybe for '09??) then it will benefit the Local racers to keep it a 1/4 mile. It is a good feeling for a local Low budget racer to go to the track and know he or she can race and compete with a limited budget and contend for a top 5 or a win. Make it to where you need a big motor, and spares, and you eliminate the number of contenders on any given evening.

Yes Danny Smith will only run once or twice in a year, but I think he might feel that he might not have won the WoO race a couple years back if the track was 3/8 at that time. The 1/4 mile was the great equalizer, and Danny did not need a hauler full of recently refreshened motors to beat the top WoO driver$ on that night! Yea he might of anyway, but his chances were better on that size track.

On edit, to add a little sarcasm
Maybe the 3/8 should add a pit road, that way when the ASCoC or WoO now need to have up two Red Flag stops for fuel, they can just come down pit road, refuel and not stop the SPRINT race!!!!

:thumb: Amen to that. What's even more of a nightmare is when you have identical looking team cars that use the small letters behind the number. I'm not sure how scorers can be expected to diffrentiate between tiny 1/2 inch high letters when a car goes across the line at 60-80 mph.

I believe LPS is a 5/16 and they don't seem to have a problem with it. True, they have other problems, but I never heard that mentioned as one of them.

keith is right about speeds and track prep. did any one else notice how fast those guys were running around there (W/O a wing!!!) saturday? i couldn't hardly watch it when my kid was out there. can you imagine if that was a 3/8? i would prefer it stay a 1/4 unless they're going to prepare a slicker surface once it's expanded. Personally i think it would be a good idea if they put some bank on the race track if they are going to expand it. Fast and Flat is not a good combination at all. I think something needs to change to get two grooves period whether its the same size or bigger.

Bad deal with Kimb she did an awesome job, and she did even better yet at IRP for the Crown race. Best of luck to her.

I probably shouldn't even reply, as I sometimes get into trouble when I talk about controversial subjects, but I can't help myself...

Anybody wanna know what got me into Sprint car racing? Bloomington Speedway...I went one night because my brother was at IU, and I wanted to see the modifieds on a track besides Brownstown...I could barely keep up with the sprints, because they were too fast for me, but you wanna know what made the sprints still so darn interesting that I just had to get more? Pat Sullivan's announcing...swear to God. The stories, the history, the 'these guys live for racing and so do I' that came through the PA was astounding. While I can now keep up with the cars on the track, a night at Bloomington just wouldn't be right without Pat's commentary.

Why did I just spend a paragraph telling you why Pat Sullivan is a huge part of the draw to Bloomington for me? Guess who Kimb Stewart reminded me of when I made my first trip to Lawrenceburg? I went with intentions of seeing this 'wonder track' everybody had talked about with 0 dust and 14 racing grooves (sarcasm, for those taking notes), and I went in after having read plenty of negative comments about Kimb after the USAC race in the early, early season. I saw lots of dust lots of black, not the wonder track I had heard about...but guess who knocked my socks off...that lady in the announcer's booth really knew what she was talking about. She spent the night talking about the history of the track and the history of most of the drivers on the track. She kept up with the race, and on cautions you knew what was going on even if you had been watching the front and the action was in the back. I found her to be a great asset to the racing program each time I made it to Lawrenceburg this year

Here's to hoping Kimb a bright future, and hoping her replacement will fill her shoes well.

Re: Lawrenceburg Thoughts , Rumors and way to much time on the road.

Im not replying to the Kimb situation as I have no evidence, facts or anything.

I also feel a little guilty as I said like Dave said earlier this year, I Could listen to her all night, every night.

I will say this, SHE SHINED BEST WORKING WITH SOMEONE, Filling the holes with valuable information, history and color She also did a lot of off track promotion and such like the radio shows and Internet shows like D.O.

Good Luck Kimb! In all you strive for.
