Track Food

Which tracks have the best food?

I would start with Eldora's chicken wings and strips.
THAT has a great rib eye steak sandwich.
Salem has good chicken strips also.

More thoughts?

I've been to Rolling Wheels (many moons ago), but never heard of a Salt Ball. What on earth is it?

The only track food I've ever seen worth discussing is at Oxford Plains (ME) and Lebanon Valley (NY). Both have full menus. You can have a quite reasonable dinner at either place. Of course, that assumes they are carrying on as they did when I was last there, which was also many moons ago.

You reminded me that Anderson has some killer tenderloins as well.

I'm a big fan of Haubstadt's Double Cheeseburgers... and overall Gas City's lineup is tough to beat...:thumb

I liked Oxford Plains back when "Papa" Bahre owned it. They had very reasonable prices, and they sold a LOT of food. Went downhill, and very slow after Mike Liberty bought the place, and the current ownership as well.

Lebanon Valley was much like the Bob Bahre OPS days last time I was there. There is always a line, and yet the line moves at a rapid pace. People go there to eat as much as watch the races

Also liked Silver Springs (RIP) as well

Sometimes I wonder why some track owners dont take some time away from their own tracks to see what other successful owners are doing.

Yeah, those are good, but they are fried. The only place that you can get a tenderloin sandwich of any kind down here are at the two Culvers, but those are way north of where I live.

Re: Track Food

Enthusiastic agreement with racephoto1 about the burritos at Manzy. I also agree that Gas City is very good. Anywhere that has ice cream in the summer, but, sadly, most tracks don't carry it. Temperature in the upper 90s for ISW and no ice cream. Go figure.

I was going to try the "famous hot dogs" the announcer kept talking about at Perris, but I thought that $7.50-8.00 was a tad too much for a tube steak.

I'm addicted to the pizza steak at Eldora.

Anybody else remember the donut holes they use to sell at IRP. Those were amazing!

By far the best I've had is the Pork Chop sandwich from Kokomo Speedway. :thumb

Re: Track Food

Kokomo's pork chop sandwich is really good.

The best racetrack cheeseburger I've ever had was at Montpelier, of all places.

Re: Track Food

IMS with their pork tenderloin is deeeelicious. And walking the midway at DuQuoin -great food and a nice variety.

Anybody remember the Bigelow Burgers at Salem Speedway when Sherm Armstrong ran that joint?

How about the broasted chicken dinners at the old New Bremen? Best ever.

I used to like the draft beer at (newer)16th Street Speedway. And the price? A 12 ounce cup was $2 and a 20 ounce cup was $4.:kookoo:kookoo Huh? Am I the only one that bought 2 small cups and got more beer for the same price as a large cup?

Eldora-Pizza Steak & Chicken Strips

Belle Clair-Fish Sandwich

Re: Track Food

1) Springfield or Du Quoin have an unfair advantage, since the State Fairs are there during those races. They are set square in the center of Food Heaven.
2) Smoked turkey legs @ IRP.
3) Ribeye or Pork Chop sandwich @ THAT.
4) Pork Chop sandwich @ Kokomo.
5) Bloomington's BBQ sandwich w/ jalapenos
6) Tenderloins @ Anderson.
7) The bbq rib sandwiches that The Burg USED to make.
8) Chili dog @ Kamp
9) A bag of Maid Rites, on the way to Eldora.
10) Jalapeno poppers @ Gas City.

Re: Track Food

I like the options at Gas City and Eldora, so I agree with those who mentioned these two tracks. They have a good variety and pretty decent food. I also have to agree with tenderloins at Anderson and the Mt. Lawn cheeseburgers. Jerry mentioned jalapenos on BBQ, but they also work well on Mt. Lawn cheeseburgers from time to time! Just eat the pickles first, then place the jalapenos on there and enjoy! :thumb

Jerry, there is one final thing that I STRONGLY agree with. Maid-Rite!

I am also partial to the pizza steak at Eldora.

Gotta go with the deep fried biscuits and apple butter from the caterers at IMS.
The fried chicken there is also great!!

Don't remember the Donut Holes, but I do remember Leonardo's Italian Suasage w/ Pepper's, Onion's & red sauce. This was back in the '90's during the Thunder Show's. Now ORP charges way too much for their food/drink.

Kokomo's Pork Chop sandwich is very good:thumb

Springfiled & DuQuoin has some great tasting food during the State Fair races.
