Young sprint car racers

What young gun sprint car racers surprized you the most in 2008.
Name a few drivers.
Give a couple of reasons why they caught your eye. :thumb

1. Sammy Imel.Hes always up on the wheel..Sammy really suprized at kokomo. He gets around that place real well.Hes not scared to go where cars arent.

2.John Memmer.Hes also a young racer who has amazed me over the 2008 season. He really opened up my eyes at the 4 crown.

3.Josh Clemons.Every time josh is on the track he amazes me. After he had that big crash at "The Burg" and just got rite back in the car and ran 6th (i think at gascity). That really made me relize hes in it to win it.

I would say Ricky Williams. He is very young 15 or 16 I think, and he had great runs throught the season. It looked like he was going to win that 10k MSCS race at L-burg until Ballou got him.

Re: Young sprint car racers

Of course he wasn't exactly a rookie but Jeff Bland Jr impressed me more than I thought he would. I think he may have even impressed himself.

I talked with his Mom last April and they were Wary of running the Burg but by gosh he showed up and when he was on. Absolutely noboby had anything for him there all year. He seemed to find speed whare speed didn't exist.

Good Job Jeff!

NorCal has some good ones; Kyle Larson (Civil War 360 wins), Shane Golobic (midget, 410 wing & 360 wing wins) and Alissa Geving (Petaluma 360 wing champ). They should all be in Indiana very soon. We lose alot of drivers to Indiana!

A couple of #17's I have enjoyed following:

Kyle Robbins who I'm hearing will be operating the 17R out of Tim Clauson's shop in '09. (Comments Tim???)

and

Brett Burdette will be in the Jeff Walker stable, or so I'm told. Don't know if that means Brett will be in a Walker car or will campaign the family 17B out of Walker's shop.

I agree!...but I am partial. We thank everyone for the support and the fans for attending the events. Feel free to come down after any races and meet Ricky and the family, check the car out and so forth. :thumb

We are proud to be assisting Kyle and his team out of our shops for the 2009 season. One of the visions we had when we put our deal together is to be able to assist some of the up and comers.

The plan right now is to run 40-50 sprint cars shows and give him a shot in a midget during the season.

Jeff Bland Jr. really turned my head on several occasions this past year. And as for Ricky Williams, he is going to be a force to be reckoned with. One of the drivers I really enjoy talking with in the pits!

Good luck to you 2 and all the drivers in the coming year.

Posted via Mobile Device Jeff Bland jr. On the gas, on the top, on the bottom, in the middle, right rear on top of the wall if thats what it takes to run up front ! And one of the cleanest young racers I have ever seen.

Re: Young sprint car racers

Chase Briscoe, he kept his nose clean ,and ran fast with the big boys at Bloomington. The kid is going to outdo his dad.

The other one is Jesse Cramer, first year, won a feature, and was never in an accident of his own making. The red clay at Bloomington has brought along a lot of young guns the last few years.Short, Bland Jr., and Cramer to name a few.

At Bloomington last year, I think you saw several examples that when Chase, Caleb Armstrong and Ethan Barrow all gain the consistency that usually comes with age, they'll be tough drivers.

I can't believe no one has said Ballou. Think he's younger than Bland and has quite a record under his belt...

Re: Young sprint car racers

Three youngsters (there all youngsters to me:O:) that impressed me were Sammy Imel, Caleb Armstrong and Chase Briscoe. I saw Imel and Armstrong run more than I did Briscoe, but all three showed some poise and were not afraid to race. They didn't seem to tear up a bunch of equipment either, and for family run operations that is always a plus. Can't wait to see them strap in again in 2009.

Re: Young sprint car racers

I can't argue with any of the names above. I got a chance to Logan Hupp run a few races at Lincoln Park and he impressed me with his consistency. I haven't seen anyone name Todd Kimmell yet, but I've seen him run regularly at LPS the past couple of seasons and he made some great leaps in his ability this past season. Looking forward to seeing some more great battles between him and Billy Puterbaugh Jr. this year too.

Ive never really seen him race.Ive seen him once at gascity (i think).Ive heard alot of good talk about him tho.I meet him in ft wyane this december.Seems like a very nice & cool guy.

Kimmel came to my mind also. I've only seen him run at P'ville and Bloomington but he looks pretty good. Seems to me that I've heard he has some connection to JRS.

i'd have to say ryan "the rocketman" tusing was pretty impressive, a low-budget team that made the feature at b-town every week but once, now thats impressive considering who runs there weekly

Re: Young sprint car racers

Coleman Gullick started looking really stron the second half of the season. Won his first Sprint feature and was on his way to another one when disaster happend. Well junked the car.
Chuck, saying the feature he won was against the afore mentioned Peterman who also impressed me.
Chuck

Eric Schulz from Sioux Falls. He backed up a season championship in his first year in non-
winged sprints with a third place finish and sportsman of the year award this year.

Blake Fitzpatrick in the 10F was very impressive last year.

Dont forget about 16 year old Trey Robb. At the Chili Bowl he broke his good motor in the heat.(started 7th ran 2nd) Started 14th in fridays Chili Bowl A and finished 7th with a $5000 motor. Good clean racing between Trey and Cole. Won his first 360 race at age 13. Was ASCS National Rookie of the year and 7th place finisher when he was 14. Won the USCS National Asphalt Championship with like 6 wins when he was 15. In 09 hes running ASCS national tour, 410 non wing and selected Aphalt and dirt miget shows with Jimmy Jones turning the wrenches! Look for a break out year.

I was going to say Blake Fitzpatrick. I am not sure how old Chase Stockton is either.

Kevin Thomas, Jr. from Alabama looks like he turned it up a notch after sprint week. Ended up 4th in MSCS and showed how fast he can be at Lawrenceburg at the 10 to win show. He does alot with a little. Look forward to watching him run this year.

If the kids so good he shouldnt need a $20,000 motor to be competitive. He should be able to take that $5,000 dollar motor and run competitively. If he only ran good with a great motor it seems to me that the driver is all that good only that he has the best of equipment.
