What would you do if...........
To put it plain and simple.. You won the powerball for lets say 75 mill after taxes?
Besides the usual, like the nice small cabin, 5 acre lake outside the front deck stock full of Bass, Bluegill, Crappie and BIG Cats, and taking care of the family, I honestly know in my heart that Sprint car racing in Indiana would change. If only for one year, but that year would be one for the ages! I think about this from time to time, and my wife knows that I would not hesitate to do it. One of the ideas would to be to sponsor the KISS series. Each race pay $10,000 to win, $ 1,000 to start. And make it a Big KING of INDIANA. 3 weekends of racing. Start at Gas city, next night at Terre Haute, then Kokomo. The next weekend is Bloomington, Paragon, and Lincoln Park. The last weekend start at North Vernon on Thursday, Haubstadt, and the the finale on Saturday at Lawrenceburg paying $25,000 to win, $2,500 to start. ( Guess my bias shows a little there but oh well.) The points Champion receiving a $25,000 Champions check. Would also like to sponsor three or four of the MSCS races, paying $10,000 to win. I would sponsor some kind of race at Lawrenceburg that, well would be bigger than the Mopar Million. A one time race. How bout a cool $500,000 to win, $20,000 to start? ( Bet that might get some attention!) Just to be involved in something like that brings chills to my spine! Best of all, all frequent posters on I.O.W. would recieve half price tickets. And maybe the best thing of all, Section "A" will be reseved for Fishburger the rest of the gang that frequents this area. ( And just for you Marv, the 50-50 girls will bring you fresh food and drink direct from Bob Evans during each nights festivities!). These are most of the things that would take place. A couple of big Midget races would surely take place also. Oh well, it's nice to dream. Dave Reese Lawrewnceburg Speedway |
Re: What would you do if...........
i dont normally post on here, but since you mentioned half price tickets, i figure i better jump on the wagon...Good luck with the winning numbers!

Re: What would you do if...........
I would buy a million dollar home in Parke County on Raccoon lake.
Buy a 2009 Corvette Zr1 (115k) 2009 Malibu for a DD 2009 Dodge Ram Diesel 2009 HD 883 Sportster 2009 Suz. DL650k5 Go on a nice long vacation. Probably go back to work p/t at a tv station or start my own production company. I would go into a partnership with Mike King and company to help improve the action track. Including, but not limited to. A. Larger money for races B. World of Outlaws race C. Rebuild the TV Tower D. Install a Video broadcasting system (cameras, video switcher, big monitors, etc.) E. Install some seating on the back stretch or corners. F. Improve pitting area (concrete all of it) G. Move scoring stand to TV tower or somewhere other than the infield, then demolish the old scorers tand and rebuild the restroom portion. H. All new equipment for track prep that the track would own. I. Perm. concession stand on the infield Put the rest in the bank to live off the interest. You can tell I thought about it more than once. |
Re: What would you do if...........
I would have another "MOPAR Million" style non-wing sprint car race, at the Burg this time. That was a great weekend of racing up at Eldora and for once, the feature lived up to it's billing! It could not have been a more exciting race between Dickie Gaines, Stevie Smith and Haudenschild (sp?)

Re: What would you do if...........
my house now is great (maybe a big barn for all the junk, but otherwise great).
then, buy 16th Street Speedway and fix it up again (some of the best racing ever, and i wouldn't care if anyone else showed up or not, just Vicki & i & a bullring racetrack with 30 or 40 midgets). and last, a garage for all the cars i wanna buy, first 2? a '41 Willys hot rod and a new Vette. bob:checkered: |
Re: What would you do if...........
I'd go to Vegas put it all on one hand of blackljack. If I won I'd give everyone at IOW a new complete sprint car, enclosed trailer, 2009 F650. You would all have to put my name on the side as a sponsor "aceace is the greatest". If I lost .... lets not get negative in this post.

Re: What would you do if...........
75 million???
Im not really into richy rich things, Id buy a modest home and some acrage proabably in TENN on Watts Bar Lake. A speed and bass boat, Make sure every member in good standing of the family is taken care off say a million each. so that leaves about and put a couple million away for emergencies. That would leave about 68 million. Id definately have to try a year of racing in a sprinter proabably USAC/MSCS and then hire a under rated gun like Westfall or Cone for a few years. Id probably buy up some old big factory suitable and have indoor 3/8th or maybe combo quarter-half mile track that we could have a winter racing series in. seat maybe 20,000 and pay for itself eventually. You'd need a job? You'd have a job but it wouldn't be charity. Grind some tires darn it :). Oh and a Bell Turbo helicopter with bed, mini kitchen. I LIVE IN TENN and have to make all the IND-USAC-MSCS shows possible! I'd probably play a little JW Hunt as well and do some purse boosting for certain races. Chuck, broke again and selling everything off fifteen years from now. |
Re: What would you do if...........
Well first like everyone else make sure family was takin care of.Then build a house.Start a new business supplying racing parts/cars/ect.My wife went to college for business management and accounting so that would help.Of course she is my wife so I get enough "management".Ha Ha.Buy a couple midgets for myself because Ive always wanted to race midgets, and run a full usac schedule for a year. But I would also build 3 or 4 regional midgets to work with the younger kids wanting to move up.After all they are our future racers.Kind of a internship or development deal.Anderson speedway needs to be bought and proper fixing up.New stands, bigger pit area and just open wheel racing with maybe a few late model races.Anderson also needs a 1/4 mile dirt track. That would half to be a plan. And once a year we would all have the biggest little 500 party in the country! All of my IOW friends and a bunch of open wheel racing all week leading up to the little 5.

Double purse for all dirt mile races on the Silver Crown schedule.
Put together a legitimate race off for a true midget national champion. Each national series season champion and one alternate by the voting of the of other drivers in that series would go to two tracks (Irwindale and Perris). Those two events points total would determine a National Midget champion each year. Create a triple crownin midgets, sprints and Silver Crown's. Midgets would be the Knoxville Nationals, The Four Crown Nationals and Turkey Night. Sprints would be the Little 500, Turkey Night, and the new 410 non wing nationals at Knoxville. Silver Crown would be the Hoosier Hundred, the Tony Bettenhausen 100, and the Ted Horn 100. Each race would have a second points total outside of the series points they pay. The highest points earner in each series would get a clear $500,000 and a bonus if they can win the three special races. The bonus would be $1,000,000. All competitors would get minimum $2000.00 tow money. Series like BMARA, POWRi and ARDC would get paid tv time on their own 2 hour program every week. I also have some really good friends I would mak sure had the best that money could possibly purchase to help them out for all they have helped me out with. |
Re: What would you do if...........
Very 1st thing I'd do is tell the U.S. Postal Service to kiss my sorry :moon:. To call postal management cretins is an insult to true cretins.
But things would get even better. A vacation home in the mountains of North Carolina, where I'd do as little as possible when I'm down there. I'd donate a huge chunk to worthy charities of my choosing, racing and otherwise. Whatever was left over would go for a sprint car and team. I'd hire Mr. Happy as team manager if he's available. I'd then hire a local kid to drive; Lord knows we have enough here in Bartholomew County. My Section A/hillside, etc. pals would never have to buy a meal, snack, etc. This could get expensive. Jim Morrison and Keith Wendell would always have whatever camera they want. And I like the idea of sponsoring a huge race with a hefty payout. I like even better the idea of establishing a hard luck racer of the week for teams that have tough luck in a given week at a given track. That team would get a quick shot of cash to help ease the pain of whatever their ailment would be. I'd want to have most of it spent by the time I take the celestial checkered flag. I'd leave a little bit for the kids, along with the grandkids. |
Re: What would you do if...........
I would resurrect "Thursday Night Thunder". I'd do it on the dirt at the burg. I'd buy TV time on speed or espn. Bring back Bob Jenkins and put Robin Miller on as pit reporter.(sure to stir it up) show highlights of non wing action. Have Usac or MSCS sanction. Pay $10,000 to win $1000 start the A $2000 win the B, all non transfers $500 Noqualifications. Passing points, pill draw. 2 sets of heats, inverted. Run a B and A. 50 car max field. Pay cleanup crew for accidents. Get Tony , Gordon , and others involved. Set up a 1/2 hour Thunder pre show with all the old greats like Superduke, Butch Wlilkerson, etc and promote the hell out of the best racing in this country. Hopefully the exposure would bring sponsor dollars and the purse would go up up and up. New fans would flock to our tracks and we here at IOW would comment how Bloomington,Gas City,Kokomo and Haubstaut have grown to accomodate 10,000 fans for there weekly programs.

Re: What would you do if...........
I'd spend it like this:
* Pay off the mortgage for my friend who is a single dad and has been raising his son alone since he was in diapers. * Build my son a shop in Indiana with an apartment upstairs. * Buy my daughter a horse ranch with room for dogs, cats, fish, etc. * For our 25th Anniversary next year - take my wife on her first vacation that didn't involve racing, race tracks, PRI show, or anything car related. (But I'm bringing my lap top) * Donate substantially to the following - American Neurological Association www.aneuroa.org Muscular Dystrophy Association www.mda.org * Hire VanHalen to play my next b-day party. :) |
Re: What would you do if...........
I'd have a two car (3rd for specials) USAC team to run all 3 divisions. I'd put Kevin Swindell in one car and Hunter Schuerenberg in the other. I'd hire Sammy Swindell as the team manager and put him in that third car for those special events.
Then I'd sit back and watch Kevin show you guys he's way better than most of you give him credit for. Hunter can stay in one place and prove himself over time and showcase the talent he has. Then set back and see what comes their way to move up. If nothing comes around then we'd just see what they both wanted to do in USAC and do it.:thumb |
Re: What would you do if...........
75 mil......not one dime directly to raceing..I'd start a series of companies in rural areas throughout the midwest, supply the oppertunity for the locals to work hard and prosper in their own hometown....if they chose to ,they'd spend the money they earnded to race,no gift, pride in their success from the sweat of their brow...with a little luck 75 mil. would last us till I was gone..then someone else's problem..I can drive a pick up truck..my feet are to big to work the pedals on a porsche..soooo

I'd buy my grandmother's former home, where I lived as a kid, on an island off Cape Cod.I'd then buy the car of my dreams, and not any of that ferrari or such junk. I'd get a good old american car. A 1929 Duesenberg SSJ. If you can afford it, buy the best.
Next buy my wife a plot of land in the middle of the desert in Arizona. I took to the Copper World a couple times, and this is all I hear about. Then a nice motorcoach to get to the tracks in. I'd buy the best camera gear I could, and shoot'em all. I'd give my dad an open checkbook and let him build a dirt champ car the way he wants. Then him ,I, and my brother would hit the road together. Last but not least, the Hoosier Hundred would pay one million to win and $25,000 to start. No qualifying race, fastest 30 to start. Tom Helfrich to do track prep, no expense spared.Talk about heroes and hotdogs qualifying.:O::O::O: |

With that kind of money I'm sure I could sponsor Kevin Eckert a few bucks each month for his website. I know I surely use it enough when making my racing plans each week/month etc.
Probably could shell out a few dollars like JW Hunt used to for a good drive. Probably buy a newer POS van too. Maybe update to a 96 or 97 model. Have a nonwing sprint and midget doubleheader at Macon and Little Belleville with huge purses for both. Maybe hire Tony Funk and the Homewreckers to ensure a standing room only crowd. (I just wanna see the sprintcars there to see what it would be like. The midgets run really well at both places) |
Re: What would you do if...........
I'd pay off my bills..............well, at least as far as 75 million would go. :(

It could be expanded but it wouldn't be based on sponsorship alone and filled with a bunch of soap opera and ficticious sports. THE SHORT TRACK CHANNEL! COMMING WHEN I HIT THE LOTTERY! Do most of you who buy lottery tickets let the computer pick your numbers or do you pick your own? This is how hard it really is to win anything on Powerball. We had a pool at work that bought us 2,750 tickets, which won us $295 that we bought more tickets which won us absol:censor:utely nothing. The big win would be great but i would actually settle for winning about $50 grand just to pay off the house.
