JMO I think the racing is great, but attending the race is a semi pain in the ass. Parking restrictions, no cash, ticket sales location. Its just not dirt track fan friendly

flagboy55 12/14/24 9:09 AM

MC, you’re 💯 correct. My good friends nodramazone20 and Yeleyfan76 were discussing that yesterday. It’s a great place, just not user friendly for our type of crowd. Here’s things we can expect. Paying for parking. 9 buck beers. Basically not being able to go to your car at intermission/track work or during support class like so many of us enjoy. With that said, I still am also considering it. There’s not a bad seat in the house, the bleachers are great. Plenty of room in the midway, and the best backdrop in racing. So there’s pros and cons. My biggest concern is that the track is too small for Sprint Cars to put on a quality race. That’s just my opinion on the track, but the other concerns I have are facts. Plus you’re going to have to expect a plus 40 dollar ticket. There’s a lot to consider

They don't sell any tickets for seats in Turn 3 of the big track anymore do they? They did that the first year the track was used, correct? The binocular section. :)

It was awful. They moved the dirt track bleachers to the other side facing away from the oval the following year.

Yes but it is pricy. We paid $40 for the 3 days on the outside of the track. It's on the north side of IMS. They have the golf cart transportation that gets you in pretty quick. They drop you off right at the bleachers.

Do they allow coolers?

you guys complain about everything :5: if you don't like it, stay home! There will be plenty of people in those stands. It will also be the largest car count of the week.

flagboy55 12/16/24 9:54 AM

Just a clarification, you can bring cooler’s into the Greatest Spectacle In Racing. I did it in May.

I also did it at the Not-So-Greatest-Spectacle-in-Racing in May at the Great Lakes Super Sprints go at Hartford Speedway.

Can't complain one bit there. :)

A common phrase used by the former promoters of many closed race tracks.

They are not taking a race from anyone. Several drivers expressed interest. Let open up sprint week with the biggest wide card on the schedule. None of you are going to pony up the money to buy Gas City. What other dirt track are you going to add? Brownstown? They have no interest in usac. Unless Montpelier has done major updates they are not ready. Its a close race for teams. Incase you have not watched, Kutztown put on a very good race the last 2 years.

Pancho Stapp 12/17/24 9:28 AM

They do not allow coolers at the BC39 so I would say no.

Re: INDIANAPOLIS to host USAC Indiana Sprint Week Opener

The only way to know if this will work is to give it a shot. I had concerns initially on Macon and Kutztown on the viability to race 20-24 sprint cars on a small track without major carnage. Both seemed to work out just fine. Would IMS and/or the fans be in favor of modifying/expanding the track slightly by making it more of a D shaped oval for more racing room? Thoughts? :6: :7: :8: :22:

Flagboy55.

Another wrench I will throw into the pile is that it is during Cup weekend and the last time the NASCAR people were in town they stood the entire 39 laps of the BC39!!! Don't want to experience that again so count me out!!!

Re: INDIANAPOLIS to host USAC Indiana Sprint Week Opener

Count me in! This thread kills me. Less than 2 weeks ago, people were on hear saying USAC missed the boat. They were referring to the WWE type racing event at the dome in St Louis. It was an expensive ticket with paid parking and big event concession prices. I heard nothing but praise.
I have no problem with anything with this event. Last year a buddy and I went to the BC39. We had great seats. We parked in the north 40. Our total cost for 3 nights was $85 each. They were $25 each for the first 2 nights, and $35 for the last night. That is cheaper than attending 3 similar races at other tracks. That doesn't seem unreasonable to me. To top it off, they refunded the money for our Thursday tickets, even though they ran the event. I have never had any event I have ever attended do that. Hard for me to say that it is not fan friendly.
I still have some health problems; it requires me to change dressings several times a day. I have to go to my car to do this. During last years program, I made one trip to the car during Thursdays program. Both of the next 2 shows were made up on Sunday. I made a trip to the car once during each show and once between shows. It was easy and I did not miss one lap on the track. Not quite sure how anyone can call that inconvenient.
As far as beer prices go, I am sure they are comparable to the prices at the World Finals at Charlotte. I have never heard a lot of complaining from people who have went to that. One thing I love about this event is reserved seating. Eliminates the blankey game, where everyone saves more seats than they need.
Another plus to this is no support classes. I will pay extra for that.
Chief, I am not sure where you were sitting, but with the grandstands pointing slightly to the south, I havent really had that much trouble from the sun there. I have definitely been places it is worse.
As for coolers. State law does not allow them there. There is an exemption for tracks 2 miles or more in length. Besides that there simply is not much room for coolers in the seating area.
I personally think a lot of you just try to find a reason to complain. You must because it is the same people over and over.

Right on Brent. I can't believe all the complaints on this thread. We get a "first ever" race and all everyone wants to do is find something to complain about. When was the last time the BC 39 was on NASCAR week? What year? How can someone tell "the NASCAR fans" stood, who they were? I carried a bag of food and drinks in last year, not a cooler. I saved $$$. If someone can't cut back on a beer, that's their choice. Maybe everyone on IOW should invite Doug Boles on a zoom call so they can air out their complaints. Sad.

The 23rd is Festivus (Airing of Grievances) Some had a head start. LOL.

Should be awesome racing, can you imagine how bad all of the awesome USAC sprint car drivers want to be the FIRST to win a SPRINT CAR FEATURE @ The Indianapolis Motor Speedway!!!

Beers at World Finals were $13.50 for 16oz cans but they did allow us to bring in coolers which saved us a ton of money. Gateway Dirt Nationals was another story.

flagboy55 12/22/24 10:51 PM

Didn’t CJ already do that? I’m not sure my buddy Brent was directly replying to me, but I listed pros and cons. The hallowed ground that is IMS forgives some sins. But to think that costs aren’t a factor, and to say the setup for parking is no issue sounds like, well something MSM might say. Parking as set up is not convenient. I’m fine with cutting back on beverages, to the point I won’t buy one. How does that work for them? I’m not saying don’t do it. From where I stand it takes consideration. As previously stated, Paragon would’ve been a much better choice, not only for our type of crowd but for a known commodity for racing. I’m not afraid to spend money going to the race’s, but I’m only spending so much per year. Now that Calistoga is reopening this year, I’m considering to that. In which case I won’t be going to some other races. Here’s the good thing. It will be successful if I’m there or not with the Nascar crowd. Problem with that is few of them will go to another USAC race this year

BrentTFunk 12/23/24 12:47 PM

Re: INDIANAPOLIS to host USAC Indiana Sprint Week Opener

Actually you brought up the only legitimate concern, how will the racing be. I am looking forward to going back to Paragon this year. I am looking forward to seeing the improvements they have made. Unless they have bought more land, I don't see them as able to host a SprintWeek date. Just not enough room. I also don't think going to Paragon would create any real growth to the event, but maybe a thing to do in the future.
Yes, the set up is different at IMS, but to me it is not really any more inconvenient than anywhere else. It is just different. I adapt to every tracks rules and ways of doing things. Then I figure out the best way for me to enjoy myself.

Be prepared to be pleasantly surprised with Paragon Brent.

What a great philosophy!

flagboy55 12/24/24 6:07 PM

PJ, you’re right, it is a good philosophy. Brent has a lot of them. Mine is different. I check the parameters of the rule’s of the track and then decide if I want to adapt. Kinda the same but different.
