Bloomington Speedway canceled August 30th

Due to the heat index expected to reach at least 100 today plus the chance of pop storms with heavy down pours. Bloomington Speedway is going to cancel tonight August 30th in the interest of safety of our staff, participants, and fans. We will see you September 6th for the season finale!

staggerman 8/30/24 10:53 AM

The forecast has not changed, if cancellation was going to happen why not pull the plug Thursday night. Several teams had already headed that way and now having to spend more money headed to alternate events.

I've been to races when the temps are 95+ degrees and horrible humidity every year! Low chance of rain with nothing on future cast now up to 6:30pm. Can't run a business being scared all the time, you're gonna run off your drivers and fans. I know it's not my $$ on the line too.

DJlives 8/30/24 1:57 PM

It's not your money on the line, and with the purse structure for Maverick the loss would be in the thousands, not hundreds

So , its not the Heat and its not the Speedway, its Maverick's fault?......Maybe its the soft ass locals who inhabit that socialist town and county???

staggerman 8/30/24 2:29 PM

I wasn’t heading to Jacksonville so doesn’t impact me but again could have made call last evening. Did drive 5 hours to Indy last night with the plan of heading to Bloomington tonight.

So since it doesnt affect you then its OK for Jacksonville to cancel on predicted weather but its not for Bloomington? Try looking at it from the promoters standpoint. What kind of crowd do you think they would get in this heat? Just after Joe took over LPS he decided to run some sprint shows on Thursdays. There was a night much like this 100 degrees probably 110 heat index. I was one of the SIX fans that showed up. There were more cars in the pits than fans in the stands. I think Casey Shuman won but I may be wrong. The point is that I'm sure Joe lost thousands of $ that night. I certainly dont expect him to lose even more tonight with a higher paying class than the usual sprint purse. Now I'm sure if you called and volunteered to pay the purses for tonight he'd probably be willing to run.

I'm sure they will. They have thousands of pre-sold tickets and live TV. They have to.

Well we can’t blame it on streaming

apples to oranges....us nats at indy has went on for 2 days aleady and 3 more after today....largest chunk of the purse is monday...im sure if any of u were willing to guarantee the purse at bloomington tonite things might of been different

Rpracing1 8/30/24 3:23 PM

I would think these recent late cancellation habits by some promoters may unfortunately affect the decisions of some race teams on where they may chance traveling to for future events. Maybe not?

How about rescheduling for Sunday? It worked for the sprintweek show.

What channel was it on? NHRA.com and my other TV sources aren't showing that there was any live coverage. I'm kinda surprised what I am seeing doesn't have anything slated to air til Sunday...

There may be three tracks in the state making $$
But keep on bashing They'll lose too. it's not like Bloomington hasn't already shut down twice in the last ten years.

Says Chuck, the legendary Ohio accounting expert who has the amazing ability to view every Indiana Dirt Race tracks final yearly profitability numbers. Please share your information that shows only 3 tracks making money and who are they. Thanks so much for your accute vision.

Dirtfan 8/31/24 9:54 AM

I had the same question, just not as detailed.

Charles Nungester 8/31/24 11:23 AM

Re: Bloomington Speedway canceled August 30th

I don't share info unless given permission to do so. However it's kinda obvious that when there used to sometimes be three fri night tracks. Four Sat night tracks and one or two sunday night tracks that the situation is not good. And some of those are now closed or in various stages.

And one promoter is trying to keep three running off of only one that's got a consistent regular successful program.

I got three tracks, equal distance in time for me. None of them are racing this weekend. And that's without weather as a issue, They didn't schedule anything. WHY?

He always has the answers. There is nothing he isn’t in the know of. I’ll bet he can’t review his sources either. Love when he touts his knowledge.

Look me up when you have anything intelligent or positive to say.. All I see from you is criticism of me, Brent, USAC or the tracks.

Bloomington has no wiggle room. It rains they're done. Plus 100* temps. It's easy to see they seen a loss coming and negated it best they could. He cancelled THAT Too last week. So you think these tracks are doing well?................ SMH.

Clearly you weren’t commenting positively on the Kokomo posts last week. Crying that it was bottom dominant. The racing could be better. Clearly your review in the Bloomquist thread was negative about the brakes he used the money he spent testing, and how you now need 20g to win for a decent field because of these things. Sounded negative to me. As for your analysis of my criticism of yourself and the other two, I don’t need to look any of you up. I know what I read and generally disagree. I didn’t dis your review on this thread at first, someone else did. I echoed his feelings. Get over yourself. Just like me you are just a little speck on this earth and if we were less full of our selves, life could be great.
Here is something positive for ya. Let’s hope your beloved Lawrenceburg can produce the intense action in October that we witnessed last wknd at Kokomo. If it is, that will be a fantastic event. Then people will have it marked down as a mainstay every year. That could be a great fall wknd.Enjoy your holiday Chuck.

Never dissed Bloomer and there was no whinning about the smack down. All I ever said about it is best when both low and high are working like it was most of sat night.

Josh at least had a very great reasoning why the cars hook so well on the bottom. The technology all around is better. Shocks, tires etc.

As for Lawrenceburg, I hope people come. Greg Staab was a huge reason so many got in or stayed in racing around here and the Fall Nationals too boot. Greg was multi time Sprint champ, Also LM champ twice in LM's and also Bloomington 1986 Sprint champion.

I worked on LM's for Rick Corbin some during those times. We didn't even have Rear Steer yet. Racin Mason, Donnie Moran, , Flintstone Flyer, Barnett, Pierce ect were heavy hitters. All I meant by it is, Like everything, The cost have put the sport out of reach for local racers. Want the proof. Lawreneburg, Brownstown, Florence and KC all ran sat nights and all had full or huge car counts (Brownstown usually had 50ish) Now none of em run a weekly super late show.

You want me to say Bloomer was the GOAT, Ok, he was the Goat.
