USAC Announcer

Why does he still announce a top 5 for qualifying ? It's the top 6 that count in USAC and he still going into July announces the top 5. It might be picky but it would be nice to hear the top six.

Re: USAC Announcer

USAC is really missing out on promoting and growing their product when it comes to their Flo coverage. This new announcer is very hard to enjoy listening to, especially his screaming lunch money hype routine. Thank God for the mute button. The real concern to me with what they lack is, all the dead air time when there's no on-track action. Drake does a great job of digging up info and it would be really nice if they would use that down time with live driver and crew/owner interviews. The Hi Limit coverage is 1000 times better, and they are showcasing their product tremendously. I wish they would leave Kristy in the booth all night, she adds so much valuable insight without acting like a circus barker!
I know I should be thankful to be able to watch live non wing dirt racing, and thank you Flo and USAC for giving me that much, but do yourselves a favor and promote your product!

Re: USAC Announcer

I could go on and on about this

Just when I figured it could not get any worse they pull another log out of the bowl. The announcer must practice how many words he can say in 30 seconds and somehow the notion of running off at the mouth is better than dead air time, or the proper way to address said dead air time has gotten totally off the rails.

so now I am "saving my lunch money" to buy amphetamines so I can stay up long enough to watch this train wreck of a broadcast.

Yes the mute button is being used just as much as last year!

and shout out to Tony Laporta. He found the perfect job as the color guy or pit reporter for the High Limit Series. I was a huge critic of his when he was on the USAC broadcasts. In my opinion he is doing a much, much better job with High Limit. I always thought he was funny, he just got overbearing during his stretch with USAC. I found it totally ironic Tony asking people to take their hats off the whole time wearing his own! They remedied that about a month ago. So Tony if your reading this, Good Job!

When Bryan is announcing he is also serving as the track PA announcer. So part of what he does is consistent with that aspect of his job description

I agree with deadbird about the down time and how good Drake is. USAC and FLO really need to take advantage of this young man's skills to promote their brand, because he is extremely knowledgeable well spoken. He has a bright future and USAC should utilize him while he is around. I would love to see him do Sprint Car 101 stuff like Chet used to and show people just how cool these cars are.

As far as Brian's hype, they all their way of introducing the start of the race. I believe he does a good job with the "play by play" and he is also very knowledgeable of the overall sport of open wheel racing.

And so is 90% of the audience.....

Chet did the same thing during most of his tenure...big difference.

Re: USAC Announcer

So why did Chet sometimes say "Love it or hate it, you know you want to say it?" Because some absolutely hated "It's time to drop the Hammer" Which is all you need to know. As enormously popular as Chet was he wasn't everyone's cup of tea either. Somewhere in my head I am hearing the chorus of the Ricky Nelson song Garden Party

With all the crap going on in the great USA 🇺🇸 and around the world, why can’t we just be thankful for the ability to watch the sport we love when we’re not able to make it to the track? Every announcer that USAC has had over the last several years, somebody finds a reason to complain about them. I’m just grateful to Flo and to all those that make the broadcasts possible. :8:

For someone who was brutal on Laporta.

I like Brian, I liked Chet better but say la vie

Bryan in pleasant most times. His Hype on the four wide and is for the fans in the stands. I agree about any line would be better than What you saved your lunch money for. But you watch anyone fifty plus times a year and certain things are going to get on your nerves from anybody.
The main thngs I wish USAC would do better is put drivers car owner and hometown on Race Monitor. Maybe even score the support class on the ticker. A few more interviews would be great, especially with racers not normally on the national tour. Get to learn who they are.

Im sorry, Im unimpressed with HL's coverage. They sound like they're at a wake and would rather trade self deprecating jabs at each other than give facts and figures and future event dates. The downtime is EXCESSIVE and a repeating drone loop is ridiculous. I also don't get the not interviewing the winners. The Playlist crap is just that, IT's a event, Play music that gets people reved up and interested not TAYLOR SWIFT.

Re: USAC Announcer

IDK, Think it's time we all be a little nicer. Most of the time if I say anything, it's from a constructive. I think this could make it better reason.

I say things because at the end of last year Chet was doing a broadcast and like halfway thru the show he started yelling as if someone from FLO or USAC had told him. YOUR NOT BEING ENERGETIC ENOUGH or something. Also gave a few jabs at the fans on twitter.

Mike Joy even did so a few times the last couple years *Jab at the fans either on the broadcast or twitter* I couldn't believe it. I think he owns the production company for Fox. People as wrong as they may be don't like that stuff

It's a thankless job and even the ones I don't like are putting up with Heat, Wet, Half a year away from home and fans criticizing everything.

If Bud was still n vogue. I'd call em Real American Heros. *Mr. Dirt Track representative announcer guy*

Ilovedirttrackracing 6/29/24 5:35 PM

Well I am hoping that he will be interviewing Robert Ballou tonight in victory lane. That will give everyone another reason to complain about the things that we all love ❤️. Lmao. Have fun and enjoy the great things that we all love. God bless America 🇺🇸. Go Blu. Thanks ❤️

I am quite impressed with HL coverage. Professional, informative, knowledgeable mike personnel lead to a well presented program. I think their downtime is very minimal compared to other similar broadcasts. I find their jabs at each other comical at times. I believe they have hit a well rounded happy medium considering that they are still in their infancy. JMO

all flo needs is Darrell Waltrip and digger, that would help the broadcast.

Blacki-Suede 6/29/24 7:02 PM

As a former track promotor I can attest to the fact that, according to fans, the track announcer was never good enough. What fans must remember, the announcer’s job is to entertain. If you are a die hard race fan you really don’t need an announcer as you already know what is going on, if you are at a track for entertainment you need an announcer. Hopefully one that is knowledgeable and entertaining.

BTW: I agree that the downtime on FLO coverage could use a little help. Plenty of interesting things could be used to fill in that time.

Ahh, any time you have to listen to the same guy 70 -90 times a year they all get old, not thier fault! At least they can hang thier hat on an original line, the guy at the WOO uses the line that was always used to intro the band KISS, " you wanted the best you got the best" as if it was his own!

They can say what they want about Bert Swoffert. But as A kid I think the most we visited was four or five times a year and I knew the names and cars they drove every week, even when they'd switched rides. I still misspronounce Johnny Crabs and Salamino just as he did.

Re: USAC Announcer

I have no problem with him on Flo, but with less than optimum PA systems at some of these tracks his voice is very hard to hear. No problem hearing Pat Sullivan with cars on track. At Bloomington midget week no idea on qualification runs. By the way, what happened to that nice electronic scoreboard that used to travel with midget week?

You mean the one that use to freeze up and they had to reboot multiple times a race? Haven’t seen it in multiple years.

Bill Angel 6/29/24 11:04 PM

I miss Chet, I think he was entertaining and he did a lot of interviews and reviews that seems to be missing now.
I’m not a “lunch money” fan!
I got the impression Tony Laporte tried to come to USAC announcing trying to educate the viewers although most of us knew more than he did. He’s come a long way and found his niche. He’s very entertaining and knowledgeable now.
I find the High Limit production by Flo to be the best of the 3 (USAC, WOO, High Limit)

Re: USAC Announcer

Really not just announcers but tracks closing, promoters walking away.

Here's one posted by a insider

Gordy Gundaker
·
The amount of track bashing is ridiculous. Normally I don’t give 2 ***** about reading any of it. And honestly I still don’t care. But I’m gonna lay something out for everyone real quick..
My parents have owned and operated Tri City for 20 years. I have seen them go days on end with a few hours sleep only to lose a race to rain, or lose their ass because it looks like rain and we don’t get people in the stands. Every scenario possible we have been through it.
We have had great race tracks, rough tracks, rubber tracks, and just ok tracks in that span of 20 years. But at no point have they ever quit working or quit trying to give everyone a place to go race on Fridays.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve been fortunate to understand more what it looks like to try and run a business day in and day out. They are not perfect, they make mistakes just like everyone else does on a daily basis. But once again, they never quit putting in an effort to see our place succeed and continue to grow.

But the real part that drives me up a wall is when I get on here and see comments like “They give no effort”, “Sell the place”, “Same old Gundaker’s who don’t care”.

And Ive had enough of it truly. I watched 2 race tracks get sold this week. Whether they will stay tracks is to be determined. But that’s 2 sets of promoters that are probably fed up with the same ******** we deal with. Idk how many tracks in the last few years we’ve lost but I know it’s too many. The way you idiots who stay at home with nothing better to do than be fat, lazy and type on your computers all day continue to bash every race track for choosing to cancel or because they have a bad night/long night, you’ll eventually run every promoter off.
I know this isn’t necessarily the group consensus when it comes to this topic and every group has a few bad apples. But I’ve been to numerous places where 1 person ruins it for everybody. I wish I had the opportunity to come stand over and critique every little thing you guys do during the day and tell you what a **** job you’re doing and see how much you enjoy it. I can guarantee you wouldn’t last 20 years.

If you think you can do better, get off the couch, go buy a race track. Hell come work at ours for a week. We will let you make all the decisions, pay the purse, insurance, cost of goods, payroll, and everything else that comes with the day to day operations. And when you get done at the end of the week, and you rain out or don’t make any money, I’d love to see how you feel about it. We will even make sure everyone knows you are running it so that way when you make the wrong decision they can bash you on social media the same way you do us.

The point I’m getting at. Before you go losing your **** on here, make sure you remember the reason you want to go to the races, and why you love going. I grew up with racing in my blood and want to see this sport continue to grow and stay healthy so my kids can grow up and race and make the friends like I have, share the same relationships I do with the people who have the same passion as me.

Every night will not be perfect. Some nights we will cancel and the sun will shine. Some nights we will try to race and it’s going to rain out. The race track might not be perfect, or there will be too much dust. But at the end of the day, we all still have somewhere to go until we don’t anymore. The old adage of “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it” rings true. But really at this point, if you don’t have anything nice to say just shove it up your ass.

We will see you at Tri-City Speedway July 12th for the Lucas series! Hope you guys have a good day and a great weekend!
