Any confirmed drivers that will be there?? I would think it’d be a nice tune up for Tuesday’s High Limit event.
|
I can confirm that Brownsburg Indiana's Shane “The Bullet” O’Banion will be there in his 33$ car!
Come on down to his pit to meet Shane, grab a new $15 Shane “The Bullet” O’Banion T Shirt, and get his autograph! |
Re: LPS MAVERICK WINGED SPRINTS & Bombers 10/6
I saw LPS put out a press release saying Brady Bacon and Kevin Thomas Jr would be there. I am sure all the top All Star guys (Wise, Sunshine, Windom) will be at Port Royal for the Tusky on Thursday and Woo for the weekend. Jacksonville has a MOWA show scheduled. Imagine might get a few Knoxville guys, couple IRA, and a few from Ohio. My estimate would be around 25 cars at Putnamville on Friday.

Re: LPS MAVERICK WINGED SPRINTS & Bombers 10/6
Danny Smith said he’ll be there Friday night.
Harley Burns and Ivan Glotzbach had a little winged exhibition to promote the show Saturday at LPS so I would assume they’ll be there Friday as well. Saw this morning on Twitter (X) that Trey Jacobs is considering making the trip from Ohio. Indiana winged teams I would expect (but not confirmed): Cobin Gurley, Van Gurley Jr, Reece Saldana, Bryce Norris, and Paul May. It’ll be interesting to see who else shows. Six grand to win plus as mentioned in an earlier post, good tune-up for next Tuesday’s High Limit show. |
Re: LPS MAVERICK WINGED SPRINTS & Bombers 10/6
Leary, Courtney and Justin Peck were at the Bridgeport high limit.

Anyone heard what the format will be for the Maverick series?
|
So far the weather looks great.

I would recommend they run the same format as USAC

I don't want passing points. There is a reason why groups like the ASCS no longer use them. I see more passing in USAC shows. It makes the fast guys have to pass to start up front. I wish these guys good luck. I appreciate all that Mr Newton is doing for the sport.

Just like the King's Royal. No format is going to be perfect but I like what USAC does, it promotes the driver to go hard everytime he is on the track. JMO. |
Re: LPS MAVERICK WINGED SPRINTS & Bombers 10/6
Back in the day you drew a number for your heats and if you drew a big number you had to race hard to make the feature. Then along came USAC with qualifying with nothing but a stopwatch for getting the times. Then later on they had a light system. The newfangled thing is a (transponder) now they can get your time within one thousandth of a second. I sort of liked the number draw for watching the races. Now the big thing is qualifying several cars doing hot laps which does speed up the show. But then this don't always work as a slow car sometime gets in the way of a fast car.

Re: LPS MAVERICK WINGED SPRINTS & Bombers 10/6
Just walked through the gate here at LPS and looked over the pit area. Unless some of the bomber teams have big enclosed haulers, I count over 40 winged sprint cars here right now.
|
45+ Entries.
|
I am eating crow, 49 cars here. I am impressed.

Re: LPS MAVERICK WINGED SPRINTS & Bombers 10/6
Seems like a good sign for the Maverick Winged Sprints. Just the first race but a turnout like that is impressive.
|
Great debut, hopefully the show is run well and the racing is good.

Some of the good storylines from last night… Danny Smith making his first Putnamville start since 2001. He just missed making the A in his heat race, finishing fourth. Started pole of the second B and got the last transfer spot by finishing second by inches over 19 year old Trey McGranahan. Danny started 22nd. Finished 11th. I believe Danny and Logan Seavey passed the most cars during the feature. I haven’t seen Marion, Illinois’ Carson Short run much the last couple years. He made the dash and looked to be the one of the fastest cars in the field in the feature. I didn’t see what how it happened but he flipped on the front stretch with 8 laps to go. I did see him wheelie off the curb in turn four a number of times prior to that. No one was more shocked than me seeing 49 cars signed at race time. I’ll be honest, in the days leading up to the event, I had a hard time picturing 20 cars (and I thought most would be local 305’s). Drivers from Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri, Ohio, Texas, Florida, Michigan, Arizona, Alaska, and Canada made this one of the most “geographically diverse” field of drivers I’ve seen at Putnamville in years outside of Sprint Week. Surprises included Chis Windom, Bill Balog, Scotty Theil (in the Seeling 97 out of Ohio), Cole Duncan (in the Dutcher 17), Skylar Gee, Trey Jacobs, Travis Philo, Ayrton Gennetten, Jason Blonde. I could on… An Indiana driver, Cale Thomas, won the $6,000 A-main. I read where it his first win ever in his home state and his largest payday in his career. Great job by the USAC regulars, especially Seavey and Brady Bacon. Both were the night’s quick qualifiers in their respective time trial groups. Seavey looked especially fast in one of the Newton 16’s. All I could think was, “That kid’s driving it like he stole it”. It was fun watching T-Mez move to the front. I thought he might make things interesting at the end. He wound up sixth. And hats off to the weekly Indiana non-wing drivers making a rare winged start. And some, like Brandon Mattox, were racing with a wing for the very first time. It will be interesting what next year will bring with this series. Yes the show ran late. The main took the checkers at 11:52 pm. They do need to figure out a way to move up engine heat and speed up hot laps and qualifying. That was the portion of the show that seemed to drag for me. |

Re: LPS MAVERICK WINGED SPRINTS & Bombers 10/6
The people that left early never left because of a bad show. They left because of the cold. Some people just never dressed for the cold as all of the hot weather we have had lately who would have thought it was going to get so cold. What I did see was some good racing as I also left early because of the cold, and I dressed for the cold and knew it was going to get cold.
