High Limit, Who’s In!

Well folks, the High Limit Series, Sprint Cars with wings, are set to light up Indiana’s Baddest Bullring tomorrow night. Kyle, Rico, and many others to do battle in the center of the state that the epicenter of real Sprint Cars. I’ll be watching on Flo, as I’m sure many of us will. But how many of you are showing up?

Kokomo Speedway

I’m a sprint car fan of both genres but given the option I’ll probably go to a wing race first. But I can’t get excited about this series. They are at a nice track and reasonably close to home (175 mi) and I’m off work… I’m undecided whether to go.. it would be a nice day for a motorcycle ride tho so that’s 1 reason to go

Re: High Limit, Who’s In!

A good idea, definitely good payouts...but wouldn't be surprised a one and done for this series

brown11b 8/1/23 9:35 AM

I don’t think there is anyway that High Limit is one and done. There is a lot of Flo money behind this series because Flo wanted mid-week sprint car content.

Also I doubt Brad Sweet would have done this for a one off season.

DirtTrackTherapy16J 8/1/23 10:55 AM

I will be there Flagboy55...I dont miss Kokomo or GC for very very few things,
my niece one of the only things and 4H and sports are over for right now ...however me and my buddies that are going have been discussing the significance in car count drop compared to May.

Same purse, same track, same day of the week, only thing different is the month...furthermore car counts have dropped off considerably on this series ever since Larson stopped the race and officiated from the driver's seat.

I like others cant hardly see this series being a one and done, however at the same time it would not surprise me as there is some reason for the drop off of cars and even fans.

dsc1600 8/1/23 11:40 AM

I know this race is a rain date and they didn’t intend to race this day, but High Limit needs to stay in the April-Jun and September-Oct timeframes. It’s very tempting for promoters to run now because crowds will be better in the summer but the teams get burned out which is partly why the car counts are lower now:

JarrettFarms73 8/1/23 11:46 AM

God willing, i’ll be there and hope to at least have my brother and niece as well. Still working on my dad.

JarrettFarms73 8/1/23 11:48 AM

Does anyone know if there will be trophy girls? Asking for a friend….

(Disclaimer: All models depicted in this conversation are over the age of 18)

I wish I could get burnt out on making money and racing to win money lol

Im not a hater, I'll watch. If the sponsors and what not keep the $$$ coming It will continue. If not, I don't see it doing so. I doubt any of the tracks gates have paid the purse's for these.

Would love for FLO or someone to find a way to do a ten race Traditional deal 20k 2k to start where everyone who makes the show don't lose if they don't crash or blow up.

Re: High Limit, Who’s In!

As others have said, Kyle and Brad are brining their names and elbow grease. Flo is bringing the money. These shows are similar to the XR late model shows with the high paying purses that no one could understand. The economics of the streaming business is lost on me.

I think that some of the car count is due to the success of the series. There were a lot of regional drivers who thought that they would be battling for a points championship. When that did not happen, they are not as willing to travel as much. If you go back and look at all of the press releases, there are several drivers that stated that they were going to be full time that have dropped off the series.

flagboy55 8/1/23 2:01 PM

The streaming numbers will tell the tale. And if they’re good, I would expect them to have a series sponsor much like the Castrol Flo Late Model series, which I’m predicting now will make a run at Kokomo next year. Charles, if you watched the Grandview HL race, they had a massive crowd that I would think covered the purse, I don’t know about the ones prior to that. I saw the Twitter post that says they’re aiming to be done before 9 local time. That’s ambitious and I hope they get it done. If they could guarantee it, I would go, but we all know the variables in dirt track racing

If you read the schedule you noticed that they pretty much stayed in those time frames. Only one event was scheduled in July, only one in August.

flagboy55 8/1/23 4:05 PM

One interesting combination tonight is Cory Day in the 7BC subbing for ☀️ I was hoping Sheldon would have used one of his Outlaws freebies on this one, but that’s just wishful thinking. Surprised not to see Big Daddy on the entry list as much as he’s been around Kokomo

I will take Larson and y'all can have the field .....Why would anyone tow to a race knowing they have zero chance at winning.....the only chance you have is if Larson rolls a 12 and takes the challenge.

Eatin Dirt 8/1/23 4:52 PM

I had every intention of going, but got called to sub in golf league. May get home to see part of it.

Re: High Limit, Who’s In!

Let me clarify. I certainly hope it’s NOT a one and done. Went to the mid week show at Granite and really enjoyed. Watched almost all of them online. Good car counts and they keep the show moving. I’m pretty much

Looked like a big crowd tonite...curious how you Hoosiers liked the race?

Certainly a sensible bet, especially since he got the pole for the Dash.... but you lost!
Hoosier Justin Peck for the win! :22:

Grocery Guy 8/1/23 11:20 PM

I just got home and kudos to High Limit team. NO MESSING AROUND! When I saw that the FLO broadcast started at 5:40PM Eastern time, I figured the show would start early which it did. Dillon Welch and his team sounded great on the PA. Congrats to Justin Peck for setting a new track record. First heat race rolled off about 7:25pm. Heat races were a typical winged race parade of speed with not much passing. The feature delivered! Looked like a video game with the leaders running high, low and slide jobs galore through lapped traffic. Kudos to Justin for a Hoosier getting the win and big pay-day! Feature ended about 9pm and back to Indy by 10:30pm. Just enough fireworks prior to the race and post-race to entertain the crowd. Based on parking, I'd say the crowd was just shy of the USAC sprint week attendance. Gotta be happy with a huge Tue night crowd. Again, props to High Limit and FLO for pulling off a Tuesday night show and getting the fans to their cars by 9:15pm! They've clearly demonstrated they can execute their sprint car and late model Tue night shows and get the fans out early! 🏁

I went, my second wing sprint car race ever.

I also really enjoyed it. It was fun.

Congrats to Justin Peck

Great racing
Really well run program again by the HL crew

Anyone know where FLO came from, ownership group? Where all this money came from to be invested in racing like this?

Re: High Limit, Who’s In!

Could not go, had to watch on tv. Few notes
Neg.
1. for the TV crowd, there was a lot of downtime. I found myself switching over to another race. I know they don't want a filler class, but it could have helped a little bit. Let filler feature run after main feature. Help with crowd dispersal as well.
2. Heats were ok. not much passing after the start. seems to be the norm of dirt racing these days.

Pos.
1. Feature was Great. Can't ask for much more.
2. Mixed up field. Example Rico had to work his tail off to get a podium. He was not able to just drive by like some of the other races.
3. Traffic!!!!! Wing races need more traffic and this race proved it.
4. Insight, I loved that some of the non-wingers showed up and ran good. It was interesting to hear how different you run the track.

I enjoyed the event. Would have rather been there in person, but that was not in the cards for last night. No way this series is one and done.

The55 8/2/23 8:08 AM

FLO is not about racing, it streams all types of sports. Their website has some information and here is what it says about how they got started.

Mark Floreani co-founded FloSports in 2006 with Martin Floreani and Madhu Venkatesan, filling a need in the market for high quality live broadcasts and original content by athletes, for athletes. An All-American track star at the University of Texas, Mark found early success filming athletes when he posted a video of the first American to break the hour barrier in the half-marathon. It went viral, kick-starting a journey that resulted in FloSports becoming a premier sports media company. Mark became CEO in 2018 and led the company to its most successful year to date in 2019. Fun fact: Mark co-founded Flo with just $20k and a van.

Re: High Limit, Who’s In!

I'm sure there would be more anti winged sprint fans in here had there been negatives to the show. But everything went perfectly. Started a little late but was leaving the track at 9:15PM and got home at 11. Feature was awesome. 2 of the best features ive seen at kokomo ever were Late Models and now High Limits. Great stuff. Now just wish more tracks (even not on weekdays) could run a snappy program like that and be done by 9:30-10

Re: High Limit, Who’s In!

I thought it was a good show. Perfect amount of cars to run an efficient show. Real good quality too. Real good crowd for a Tuesday night, though not as big as the July3 show or Sprint Week. Track was very racy. I have felt for a while that Justin Peck is the most under rated wing driver. Nothing changed my mind last night.

nonwing79 8/2/23 1:58 PM

I saw many good comments on the racing, how do we get some of these wing lovers to watch a USAC race at Kokomo and blow their minds?

DirtTrackTherapy16J 8/2/23 2:37 PM

I felt it was a great race...very racey. Decent amount of cars. Very very well run efficient show. HL staff all but made their scheduled end time. May have been 9:05-9:10pm when the checkered flew.

A few kool things that happened. A chopper landed in the infield, said to be IMS. JP set a new track record qualifying. No serious crashes. The scoreboard is working. Kyle Larson signed one of my business hats.

Crowd was definitely not as big as the XRS Late Model show, Fireworks show, or Sprint Week, yet still a good number for attendance. Some people were not very happy that the Thunder Cars was taken off the race schedule for last night bc it was advertised that they were going to be a support class when advanced tickets were offered and purchased. Also in my opinion the race was not worth $40 when Sprint Week was only $30 and XRS Late Model show was only $25.

All in all, very good show. Congratulations Justin Peck on a new track record and winning the Feature!!

I gotta ask, based on one of your earlier posts, trash pickup was a concern, was it done satisfactory last night?
If it wasn't worth $40.00,why did you bother to go,asking for a friend.

Why did I go and why did I pay $40...outside of it's none of your business or your imaginary friend that your making up to sound kool...I support as many tracks as I can, as often as I can, that's what I do. It's my hometown, it's my home track, the owners and promoters are my friends, and they support my business.

Furthermore I've never seen high limit in person so I didnt know how it would go. Will I pay that or travel to watch High Limit again, no. If they come back to Kokomo and I'm able to go to the race, then yes I will go back if nothing else to support my friends and their business and my hometown and hometown track.

I wasn't gonna waste my time responding to your ignorance of the trash until I reread what you said...so now I'm defending my friends and people who are employed at the track...no post I ever made said trash pickup was unsatisfactory...it simply said out of respect, please put your trash in bags if your camping or inside the gate please put it in the trash cans provided or near the trash cans at the least. Simply out of respect and it goes for all tracks, not just Kokomo. At your age I would think you would appreciate respect but maybe you have none.

Re: High Limit, Who’s In!

Props to Doug Boles for once again supporting short track/dirt track racing.

Aurora78 8/2/23 7:14 PM

First heat race started at 7:25 and feature done by 9. That 4 heats, B-main, dash, and A main in 1 hour and 35 minutes. I'll take that every night.

Hubie48 8/3/23 5:36 AM

Re: High Limit, Who’s In!

Lets not kid ourselves, while Boles is no doubt a true short track fan the main reason for his "appearance" was to plug his tracks upcoming events. The tie in with Kyle Larson is huge, and here again Larson is THE HUGE DRAW for the High Limit Series.

Rico Abreu is also a draw, he has the winged sprint car crowd in the palm of his hand. He is also on a real good stretch right now as far as winning goes.

The principle High Limit guys are not dumb. There was an almost NASCAR fever to the event. The fans are really passionate about their drivers. Lots of parents brought their children. I saw more kids and young adults than any of the Sprint Week shows. The fans were five deep buying from Larson's trailer, three deep at Rico's.

The Circus was in town!

ThrowbackRacingTeam 8/3/23 7:46 AM

When the only good event is the A-main I don’t consider it a good show. That’s winged racing. Every night of USAC sprint week was better.

Charles Nungester 8/3/23 8:57 AM

Re: High Limit, Who’s In!

All these guys saying I wish Larson would stay home so we could make some $$ should consider the T shirt sales are probably thrice a normal WoO show. I also doubt they have to be a Gold member just to have a T shirt trailer.

Yes Boles is promoting BC39 but that helicopter ride alone ate up a couple hundred admissions., Needless to say, It was cool. Take off the millionaire suit, put on a racing shirt and enjoy a beer and racing. The opposite of the impression I got of Indy back in the 90s.
