I hope its not youtube or Amazon but some "normal" channel...even Peacock would be ok though...

I'm with you there, jdull99. It makes me cringe to think what ABC would do to it.:7:

Maybe they'd have it end before 1 AM.

I hope that they decide to make the PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE a permanent part of all opening ceremonies. Racers are, by nature, patriotic. In these times it is seriously needed.

I understand everything that ESPN (/ABC) has turned into, but as a simple turn the Cable "TV" on or walk into a public place and ask them to find the channel, I actly would much prefer an ESPN family network over newer off-shoot stuff...whatever its on and no matter what time, I'll try to find a way to watch. Pretty much that and the Indy 500 are the only two that I schedule to be around a TV at the time its aired. I guess I'll even throw this Sunday evening dirt race into that as well...I like the time frame (could be even later for me) and the fact that its on after most are done with Holiday activity on that day.

The National Anthem is more than enough. We don’t need to add more things to drag the pace of the chili bowl even further down.

Probably just going to be on Flo, like everything else.

Want a quick way to ruin a good thing....Bring in the greedy suits and go corporate! Have you bought a ticket, parking, concessions at the Indy 500, Daytona 500, NFL, NBA, MLB, NCAA FB & BB, you name it. What once was a sport becomes an "Entertainment Event". The losers are us. Take note, Chili Bowl 2023 and Chili Bowl 2033.

Pitdad 4/7/23 5:35 PM

Since they only pay $10k to win and nobody wants to race in it, probably won’t matter by 2033…

To what end? We play the national anthem, that should suffice. Every time one attends an event it doesn’t need to be a nationalistic show piece. And before the “you ain’t American crowd” jumps down my throat, as a HS administrator I initiated the saying of the pledge along with a moment of silence to start every school day.

I think the Pledge, Anthem, Proud to be a American, Yankee doodle dandy, Were a American Band, Hotel California should be prior to every show. Maybe even some Free Bird.

They DO sing: God Bless America, Back Home Again in Indiana, AND the National Anthem at the Indy 500...

Apparently they do TWO "National Anthems" at the Super Bowl and a lot of Basketball games I guess...

Good point about the 500 Jason
My two cents about reciting the pledge at the CB, go for it. Two minutes to honor God first and country is a great thing to do; and second it has nothing to do with incredibly drawn out Saturday night event.

One thing to consider about the long delay at the Chili Bowl. It may be needed to air out the building.

Excellent post! I have thought of that too. The late running doesn't bother me, but I do suppose for those watching on the East coast, it does push it...everyone should know how late it goes, year after year, and plan accordingly...

Re: Chili Bowl News

in the past they had giant fans near an open door in the area of turn 4 working to get fumes out. That may have been prior to mandatory track fuel. I haven't seen those fans in recent years. But the dust has risen to at least as big a problem as the fumes. It is really tough to see the cars in turn 1&2 from 3&4, at least in the high rows. But, I will be back until I can't. And miss the great guys that I have met there. Because they can't anymore. God speed to them all.

Nobody wants to race in it? LMAO. The car count was terrible this year wasn't it!:

Which God would that be? Personally I prefer my government, ********, and recreation to be free of religion. You know that individual choice idea.

He was joking...many of us (I'm in that crowd) complain about the payout.

Pitdad 4/11/23 1:09 PM

Yes, I was making a bad joke. There was an extended preseason discussion on this board and others that the Chili Bowl didn’t pay enough and that participant attendance would be affected. Larson and Bell’s decision not to compete in Tulsa was viewed as the beginning of an exodus.

But as the announcement that originated this thread reveals, Larson and Bell not participating isn’t devaluing the product that is “The Chili Bowl”. Emmett and Company’s decision to not renew with Lucas Oil and MAV/FLO tells me the value is of The Chili Bowl is not decreasing. If “a sports network” (I’m predicting ESPN+) is willing to pay more, even without Larson and Bell, then the Chili Bowl isn’t compelled to pay more prize money to create an attraction.

The payout will go up at some point, hopefully before it does damage the value of the attraction. But that’s capitalism. You don’t pay more for a product due to goodwill. You pay more when supply becomes short and competing demand requires it.

flagboy55 4/11/23 3:11 PM

Dad, perhaps you have more insight on it than I do but Lucas has been throttling back big time on their sponsorship’s. It’s been pretty well documented by Justin on Dirtrackr daily. So who knows who cut ties with who. That being said, do whatever opening ceremonies you want as long as cars are in position at your advertised start time. I for one would feel better if they had less car’s so they could start the alphabet on Friday and have a more controllable Saturday. That’s just my take as a fan at home
