Don't worry people will find something to complain about, and a reason not to go. I will be there. Happy it is opening.

flagboy55 3/23/23 2:12 PM

Just to prove Brent correct again, I’m going to complain, as soon as I figure out something to complain about 😉 See you there!

cowboyhar69 3/23/23 2:20 PM

Announcement says May 23rd for the Hulman Classic….. that’s a Tuesday , USAC schedule TBA says Wednesday 24th. Called the number on the press release, left a message for clarification on the correct date

About 2-3 years ago, the Vigo fairboard announced they had used the parking fee to put up new light poles on the infield, and showed pics of the work being done. I can live with the parking fee if they put it to use maintaining or improving the facility, unlike the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

I'm glad to see a half mile is remaining. Sprint cars belong on a half mile.

OMG! That is the most accurate thing I’ve ever read on this or any other message board! Well done, sir, well done!

I believe in the ability of the hardcore motorsports fan to find something to complain about. Furthermore, I’m equally confident that no matter what the issue is (dry track, muddy track, too expensive, not a high enough payout, too many classes, too low a car count, lasted too long, didn’t get to see enough racing, et cetera, et cetera) that this group of esteemed supporters will be able to argue which ever side of the argument necessary, AND with equal fervor. All hail the open wheel fan!

cowboyhar69 3/23/23 5:08 PM

I’m told the Tuesday May 23rd date is correct for the Hulman Classic. It’s also in the USAC press release.

Interesting that is someone from the board making the announcement and not the promoter. Not a complaint, A observation.

Lets go racing.

The board making announcements about the track got my attention also.

As for the new promoter, this is the fourth promoter in a little over ten years including one that left not on their own accord. I wish the track luck but until there is a few years of success without a promoter change, I won't breathe easily the track will be around for a very long time. There is so much commercial development in that area and the racing side is only used really for racing. During fair week, it is used but there is other facilities that can be used in teh same way on the opposite side of hte property. The drag racing track is already looking for a new promoter after the current one. They are done after this year after only a few years.

I will do what I can do with work stuff to make sure it gets coverage though.

flagboy55 3/23/23 9:53 PM

Trying not to hijack the thread but I don’t know how exactly to take the Pitdad’s post. Are paying customers not allowed to criticize what they spend their money on? Are there not things worthy of criticism? Long Live THAT!

boomer 3/23/23 10:10 PM

Would you believe me if I said I was gonna be the new promoter? Probably not. Just a observation

If they don't offer free tram rides to and from the infield I'm not going. They expect me to carry my now legal cooler that far?

Jerry Shaw 3/24/23 12:53 AM

Re: Terre Haute

They just ran a story on WTHI-TV announcing a new promoter, coolers being allowed in the infield and free parking. It featured Bill, with a few comments about looking forward, the history of the track and the improvements the previous promoters made. Brandon Mattox's car was also prominent in the story, along with a group of people, who were there to celebrate the announcement.

The problem is, with social media a lot of the complainers are not paying customers. I have only not gone to a track one time, and that was because they didn't allow reentry. Didn't bash them, I just left. They had 4 support classes, that I didn't want to sit through. Really it was my fault, I knew about the classes to begin with. I should have never went.
Bob Clauson told me the promoter at Jacksonville told him something. If you have a complaint, come tell me personally. If you have a compliment do it on social media. I have tried to do that. Just because I don't like something, doesn't mean everyone feels the same way. In the end it is their business to run as they see fit.Simple comments about maybe it being a late night are understandable, but we have all seen the dead horse beat to death over something very small.
I Wish the new team luck at Terre Haute.

cowboyhar69 3/24/23 11:09 AM

Correct me if I’m wrong…. Kokomo, Lawrenceburg, Putnamville and Eldora has the no carry in beer rule, anyone care to add any other tracks? I like and drink beer also but if no carry in beer is allowed then so be it. Not gonna stop me from going to a race anywhere.

The only place I know of and even would think about it is the Indy 500. Everywhere else I fully expect to pay for all concessions (until later in the shows, then you hope they go cheaper on food before they throw it out).

Not sure about the new promoters, but Circle City did not allow any alcohol to be brought in.

Terre Haute and the Speedway have a long tradition of loyal infield patrons.

None of this really matters, just thinking and was wondering what you all think. First off having been a Bill Rose fan for decades, this is just another reason to like the guy. But I was wondering about his support staff going in. Maybe he’s done this before, I’m not aware of it, but I’m just wondering if he put an alliance together with another established promoter. I haven’t seen any indication that he’s coming off the road with the Outlaws. If it’s none of my business, that’s fine too. Just thinking he might need some help

jdull99 3/25/23 2:13 AM

Re: Terre Haute

How bout if they charge a fair price for some of the beverages? Like a deal price on smthn...(most of our local bars these days offer at least Busch Light for $2-$3 range). Maybe just below top dollar; but enough to make everyone think they are getting a deal, but still supporting a business instead of carrying your own stuff in? (I'm not saying I've never carried my own stuff in, but I usually snuck it in and at any minute thought I could be busted; and NEVER expected it to be ok...). & yes, the local hockey team is up to like $7/$8 on regular nights for the best priced beer; and I decided to not go back (they do have a $2 deal night, but it doesn't work out for me to go to them). They would never allow you to carry anything in...(I thought of it).

This was my thought as well.
Happy to see him out on the road tagging the field with the Outlaws, but am a bit worried about this deal. The Fair Board has a history of cycling through promoters, even very successful ones, and worry that this could be a short term failure due to lack of experience. Not sure of his funding either

oppweld 3/25/23 2:55 PM

The only things that really matters to me is no rain and plenty of action on the track.
All you out there worried about race day operation and execution of the three events should contact Bill Rose and volunteer your services. See you all @ THAT!

All winter we heard on here at the asylum that we hope Terre Haute survives and they find someone to promote it. They announce they have chosen a new promotor and now the same said asylum members are questioning the choice and don't think Billy has the ability or finances to do it correctly. :14:

My Granny always told me this:

Wisdom chases a lot of people but some are just too fast.

I havent seen anyone say that he doesnt have the ability or finances to do it. If he's gonna continue to run with the outlaws I wonder how he has the time but i'm sure he has that figured out.
