Hopefully the “ different direction “ means there will be racing in 2023.

I couldn't agree more with you.

oppweld 12/21/22 1:12 PM

I want to thank the out going promotional staff for their outstanding efforts and major upgrades to the facility.

Hopefully the fair board will be able to bring someone in. With the improvements that this group made, I would think a replacement wouldn't be too hard to find. Unless the board is hard to work with, and can't come to a reasonable contract.

Now for the number one question that will be asked. "Will old grandstand cooler policy be restored?"

Would you pay for a few refreshments to have the track running? I, for one, would!

Whoever is promoting has got to, at least, break even!!!

Whatever the policy is, It should be clear both to fans and employees before a maylee happens. I give all the props in the world for what Bernie, Ronk Ballou and others did. Just sad it didn't work out.

Something tells me that track needs to make most of it's $$ during fair week or it's not going to survive. Demo Derby, monster trucks. sprint week. Maybe a hell tour. TE kept it's dates last year but at a different track.

At least TE has a promotions dept. Usually get half a dozen or more promotion flyers, here, FB, Twitter and Im sure locally.

Thanks for the Armco! Best of luck to TE or whoever gets it. Hope someone does.

oppweld 12/21/22 6:11 PM

My question was a joke. I'll be there if parking was 20 bucks and beers were 10! April can't get here soon enough.

Blitzman 12/21/22 7:25 PM

Hopefully Ronk & Bernie get money back from the improvements they put into the facility. If not, they should take all the guardrail & any fencing they bought with them. Let the track owners & next promoter figure out what to do with the outside walls. Just my .02.

flagboy55 12/21/22 7:45 PM

I will validate Oppweld’s opinion. He would be there for sure!

We can't do that at any tracks in WI. I can't believe anyone would stay home from a race because they had to by beer at the track. Maybe stay home and go to an AA meeting. JMO

Haven’t seen any announcement about this. Is this official or wishful thinking. Not trying to be a wise guy but would like to see an official announcement.

Re: That

While I hate that the promotional team of last year put all that work in and are getting little in return, I sincerely hope that SOMEONE, be it Track Enterprises or some other entity comes in and promotes the track. I fear that if it sits unused, the fair board will never allow it to be used again.

flagboy55 12/21/22 10:04 PM

3, obviously you missed Oppweld’s clarification. It was a joke. But seriously, he travels all around the country and collects beer and I bring beer from our local brewery and we share and enjoy. Obviously you’re not understanding to camaraderie at a race track

Bringing in your own alcohol is a relic of the past. Drink your own in the parking lot.

You are entitled to your own hopes but that solution would be counterproductive to reopening the track to racing.

In Indiana, it is illegal to bring in alcohol if you sell it.

This is false. IMS allows carry in and sells on premise. Bloomington and THAT come to mind also(at least they were under previous promotors).

cowboyhar69 12/23/22 5:53 PM

Maybe they are paying the state of Indiana some big bucks for a Sunday permit?

Re: That

last year I saw people toting in 12 packs and even cases of beer at I-96 in Michigan. They went under again. I love that track. Probably not the only reason but it didn't help them not getting some revenue off alcohol sales.

So you’re saying Ronk & Bernie should just walk away & “donate” the material’s they invested into THAT? Just so that track can keep racing? WHATEVER!! They should get reimbursed for their investment of the materials by someone, or take it with them.

Sandy Lowe 12/23/22 9:04 PM

JMO but I would think part of the lease agreement would allow improvements to the facility with the stipulation that at the end of the lease those improvements would remain, or the facility would be returned to the to the way it was when the lease was signed.

It might be cheaper to walk away than to remove the new guardrail/fencing and put something else in its place.

Charles Nungester 12/23/22 9:08 PM

Re: That

Unless you get it in writing. All improvements you make under lease remain

Why you don't see a lot of improvements at many leased tracks, Unless the owner puts up the $$ Your investing in something that may not be yours next lease period.

No this is not false, I have my liquor license/bartender license and the statement by Funk is not false.

Is there ways around that, of course there is...money talks in the state of Indiana, right or wrong.

I have a hunting lease. I have the legal right to have a person arrested for trespassing bc it is in the lease. No that has nothing to do with racing, its justa point of leasing. Official, professional leases of any sort are typically written up by attorneys and agreed and signed by both or all parties. If anything in the lease is broken and taken to court, the person breaking the lease can and most times will be in legal trouble/financial trouble. This whole ordeal with THAT, ALL depends what the lease agreement was. As stated above, likely is cheaper from a financial standpoint to walk away then to take things down and put things in place of what was taken down, depending on what the lease terms was.

sprintracer82 12/24/22 12:04 AM

I-96 didn't get hurt buy lack of beer sales. I believe the investigation from the attorney General had a huge effect on the track.

There is an exception for tracks over 2 miles in length. IRP used to allow it when they had the road course active. As stated it only is the law if you get caught. I worked at a track when excise showed up. They explained it to me real well.

How were Bloomington and THAT allowed to sell on site then? I attended both regularly from '05 to '18 and both allowed carry in and sold on site.

I don't remember Bloomington selling beer, but do remember Terre Haute doing it. We did it, until we got caught.

Charles Nungester 12/24/22 10:19 AM

Bloomington never sold beer until like the last ten years or so. Also possible there are different types of licenses.

Why was the attorney general investigating I-96?

Re: That

Terre Haute is a different animal. The Speedway and Action Track are the just about the only open wheel tracks left with an infield friendly to race fans. Been that way forever. A good compromise would allow for coolers, can beer and fried chicken in the infield.
