New Xtreme Midget Race Director

Tyler Bachman taking over the Midgets and this in the Press Release>

With Bachman at the helm, the 2023 schedule will focus solely on the Midget Series, rather than spread across to Non-Wing Sprint Cars. Volusia Speedway Park’s DIRTcar Nationals in February will continue to feature premier Non-Wing Sprint Car racing.

Re: New Xtreme Midget Race Director

I hope that this coming season for the Xtreme Midgets will be more than simple POWRi co-sanctions that money grab livestreams away from "MAVtv on Flo" and on to $Dirtvision$. It seems that model didn't work too good for the sprint cars. I do wish them good luck, though, in the name of midget-only drivers and teams.

I'm not sure what your saying about the sprints. The Jacksonville IL and Spoon River shows were two of the best races I saw all year.

It’s a poorly written sentence but it appears Xtreme Outlaw is now just a midget deal. I read something in Area Auto Racing News about that recently.

Hence why I posted that Volusia does not list em as xtreme series, Just Non wing sprints.

They were, indeed, both very good races. What I'm saying is that, obviously, the business model did not work, hence, neither will return in 2023. World Racing Group (WoO) has decided that Xtreme Sprints was not a good business venture, or they would be returning for another season.

That is straight from the Xtreme site. You can read this either way - The "premier" Non-Wing Sprint Car Racing is not attached to Xtreme anymore, OR if you read the paragraph in one context it tells me that Xtreme will focus on midgets only but will still uphold their DIRTcar Nationals dates for the sprints.

A ship-shod press release the way it is worded/explained? A play on words using "Xtreme" and "Premier"? Either way the sprints are on the docket for two nights and someone will be organizing/sanctioning it. More than likely the last time, though - unless USAC steps in down the line.

Volusia is owned by WRG same company that owns WoO, thats why USAC doesnt race there.

Thank you for that info, didn't realize that.

You spoke too soon. Looks like USAC is taking over the sanctioning for the non-winged sprints at Volusia this year.

Packing up, heading south :6:

Many here predicted USAC’s demise as a result of WoO jumping into the non-wing fray. Once again USAC perseveres.

Re: New Xtreme Midget Race Director

Once again Kenny Brown's stated goal of putting USAC out of business fails. Still holding on with the midget part but with non-wing sprints USAC says ... wait for it ... "Checkmate".

Yup you are right. It surprises me that WRG would sign a race that ends up on Flo since they own Dirtvision.

Isn't USAC a member of WRG and mirrors their rules?

World Racing Group is WoO sprints and LM's and Super Dirt Mods plus Dirtvision and several race tracks including Volusia.
Plus Xtreme midgets.

Edit. I guess the All Stars are at Volusia for 2 nights too so I guess we will see what happens.

Theokayman 11/30/22 1:20 PM

I read that they are planning for at least 32 midget shows in 2023.

Source? Also, are this stand alone events or co-sanctioned with POWRi? 32 new stand alone events would be awesome. 32 rebranded POWRi shows would be less impressive.

It will be interesting to see who runs the High Limit race programs in 2023. USAC basically manned the High Limit show at LPS this year......I doubt WRG will be happy with that arrangement moving forward???

I seriously doubt that. How many teams could do that?

Probably more then you think if the money is better then USAC or POWERi.

Wouldn't they have noticed that before they scheduled this race?

OK. I will bite. How are they going to be able to pay more? There are only three sources of income. Gate receipts, series/race sponsorship, streaming revenue.

Extreme also has to determine if they are a stand alone series or a support series.

Well by the scheduling they clearly aren't the headliner.

So, I will admit that I have never understood the Xtreme undercard theory. When the WOO had the Ironman 55 at Pevely and they had the midgets on the undercard, how did the midgets add value to that night? Were there fans who couldn't decide if they wanted to watch the Ironman but since the midgets were on the undercard, it made a difference?

Did any more people watch the Ironman 55 because the midgets were on the undercard? I don't understand the business model.

For the stand-alone races that they did have, the business model starts to make more sense. With 32 (?) dates, you would wonder how many were stand alone. It looked like about half of the dates last year were stand-alone dates.

Hopefully, all of these will be answered at the PRI show.

SpfldMile 11/30/22 10:05 PM

The midgets on the card actually does make it more enticing for me.

That makes sense for people who live not too far away, but for people like me who have to do major traveling to get to Pevely, the midgets make a big difference. Like leaving a day or 2 earlier on the way to Knoxville... always wanted to do that. Haven't seen the WoO on a bullring & midgets are my favorite class....:31:

Yea when Powri was added to the Ironman, it became a must see event. And that event is a home run every year so i think they do add to the event. There are a lot of diehards who started their favorite week of the year at Pevely and the midgets are an attraction. For the LM events, I get the question. Are there a lot of LM people who love midgets? Maybe not.
