No Larson at the Chili Bowl!
No Larson at the Chili Bowl!
I know it’s been discussed. But this confirms it. He at the Rumley Motorsports Late Model team with Longhorn Chassis has entered the Wild West Shootout at Vado Speedway Park in New Mexico. Picture below. |
It would be nice to have him entered but the show goes on. The CB will be just fine.
|
So now I’ve got two races on in the garage instead of one. Actually I was hoping his grievance was going to help raise the purse, but I haven’t heard any talk of that since a few months ago. It really only hurts the CB. No real amount but now there’s Larson fans that will be watching Late Models instead of the Chili Bowl. As the previous poster said, it will be fine, but it does present an option

Re: No Larson at the Chili Bowl!
A good ole fashion pissing contest....CB will be fine....Larson will be fine...all will be fine...Larson has definitely decided that being vocal is the way to go in his career....no issue with it, just different persona

Re: No Larson at the Chili Bowl!
There was a driver that ran both last year. Cant remember who it was. Left Vado and ran the prelim night. I don't think they had all that stellar of a night and did not return to cb on Saturday.

Re: No Larson at the Chili Bowl!
I believe the Chili Bowl was held without Kyle Larson many times with much success. I can understand how a fun week could turn into a lot of work for a guy like him. He will be just fine.

I disagree. I think it does hurt the Chili Bowl and the midget and non-wing sprint car racing scene. It diminishes the prestige of the event when the biggest name in racing chooses late models instead. Several other names in the sport have left for winged sprints and now this. Crowds were not good at many of the races I attended this year, especially at the bigger tracks. The Chili Bowl will still sell out this year but it is definitely a black eye and now a lot of non-open wheel fans will view it as just another low paying non-wing open wheel race.

Re: No Larson at the Chili Bowl!
Don't get me wrong, Im still a huge Larson fan.
But I liked it better when he just showed up, Kicked ass and stayed humble. Not saying he's not now, just using his star power a bit more. |
Re: No Larson at the Chili Bowl!
Yeah he's been entered in that race since before he started this rant about chili bowl should pay more.
Those in the know have been calling BS the whole time. If he still hadn't won the event he would be there, but since he has 2 wins he can go try and win at a track he never has.Fine He's not the 2022 defending champ anyway. So a bigger question is will Tanner have a ride for 2023 chili bowl to defend his win. |

Has Stewart not participating hurt Chili bowl? NO
Did Kinser not participating hurt Chili Bowl? NO. No will Larsons. The Chili bowl is international. I doubt some LM race in AZ will be. at least not on any level close to CB. |
As A.J. Foyt once said when referring to the Indianapolis 500, “no driver is bigger than the race.” Sure, everyone would love to see him at the Chili Bowl, but there will still be more than 300 other drivers putting on a show. Both races will do fine.

No Larson at the Chili Bowl in '23l!..
....was'nt it SCHATZ!!...that Ran Both!!..
_____________ Brucer' :32: |
Re: No Larson at the Chili Bowl!
Racing has long had racers that have raised to the level of opinion. A.J,Foyt, Dale Earnhardt Senior, Tony Stewart, now Kyle Larson (there are plenty others list them if you want). When they reach a point when fans watch them closely and listen to what they have to say it is news. Lots of fans disliked the way Stewart did some things or what he said, but in the end Tony wound up as a real asset to racing. He sends his plane to help families who lost members in accidents and so forth. Larson is just reaching the level of super star where he will stay for a long time give him a chance to express his feelings.

Stevensville, I think we can arrange that! Actually, this might offend someone but, I would rather lose 200 car’s that have almost no chance to even make the main than a couple that could win it.

Chili Bowl? Oh, you mean that race they have in a building? Jaw dropping bravery I tell you
They should re-name it "Midget Lotto" While it is difficult to win for sure, I fail to see the attraction other than it's cold as Hades and there is nothing other to do. Give me the "Hut Hundred" anyday. |
Re: No Larson at the Chili Bowl!
with Larson out that opens up a chance for a spot in the A main for 20 or 30

Been There, it was cool, but, way over hyped. The feature is advertised at like 55 laps but is really 25 laps after they blow the slime off, 350 cars and 25 dfivers, and any thing inside is just entertainment. This event is very entertaining and a must see, but real racing takes place on a faster venue!

Re: No Larson at the Chili Bowl!
No doubt it's a ton of fun. It's winter time and there isn't much else to do. It has grown substantially as I see folks selling parking passes and what not. I have never been but I'm sure that place fills up with exhaust fumes (yet smoking is no doubt prohibited)
It has never been worthy of all the praise IMO. It's an overblown lottery. Like running a donkey at the Kentucky Derby. Could you imagine the entry and purse of the Chilli Bowl being held at a place like Kokomo? The one offs and "first timers"? The wrecker concession alone would be worth a fortune! watching JMac come thru all those heat races a few years ago was super entertaining, for me it was the coolest thing that ever happened at the Chilli Bowl |
Hubie I agree with you. It’s important for me to say I love the Chili Bowl, but in my opinion it’s always been a bit of a novelty. Let’s face it, it’s great popularity is rooted in timing and circumstance. As many have pointed out, there’s nothing else going on race wise in this country, and that was even much more the case in its infancy stage. Guess what? Now there is something else going on, they’re racing Late Models in the desert, and our favorite son is electing to participate in that instead of racing where he ought to be. As stated previously, the CB is the only one that stands to lose in this scenario, but as many of us have said, it won’t be a tangible amount. My recommendation to all of you is to set up another TV with a Roku or fire stick and have both on. They both will be on Flo so you can watch both. And whoever said they would rather have the Hut Hundred back instead of the Chili Bowl, I concur

I don't begrudge anyone from enjoying it. Knock yourself out. Enjoying life is what it is all about.
