Think there's more to it than temps myself., I could be entirely wrong.

Re: XTreme Outlaw Races Cancelled
Good thing USAC midgets are running not too far away this weekend...(I realize this cancelled race was a sprint car race...). Hopefully its warm enough to race where they are scheduled.

I hope this leads to a big car count at The Class Track!

Re: XTreme Outlaw Races Cancelled
Unfortunate for those that were planning on going. Few years back at No Way Out 40 Brownstown, I think temps at hotlaps was around 45-48. By time race was over it was around 35. Yeah it was cold and I went to the car at intermission and put another layer of clothes on. Guess they figure attendance will be poor. Gonna be cold at Leffler Memorial, but that ain’t stopping me. Believe Fireball was made for just such occasions. :32:

Use to watch that show religiously, even the reruns. "I know nothing "!

Probably the "alleged" tire shortage😳😳

Let’s be realistic here. Yes, Boss has a decent presence in Ohio, but traveling support for decent paying non wing races is non existent. Weekend temps are frigid, if it paid 1500 to win it would be well supported and the track would put it on. It’s cancelled because the track would take a bath. 10K to win at the burg, 22 cars. $2500 to win at paragon, 37 cars. Reality sucks in the non wing world.
|
We can always dig deeper and 5th at the burg only paid $1000. Of those 37 competitors at paragon none of them would likely finish that high. Non wing racing can only be concluded as a hobby class of racing. Name me a region where any full time Usac driver faces competition like the woo in regards to the PA Posse.

Re: XTreme Outlaw Races Cancelled
I'm not sure what cars that Xtreme thought they were gonna draw? Look at the points for the series- a lot of those cars weren't going to Atomic, cold weather or not.

The Knoxville nationals pulls all those cars because they pay hundreds / thousands of dollars through the C/D/E mains. I would guarantee you that if the fall nationals went from $10K to win / $500 to start over to $5K to win and $1000 to start, more cars would show. I mean, would you rather run 6th locally and bring home $500 or last and lapped at a USAC show? Quote:

What’s the difference in $500 for 6th locally or $500 for last at a USAC show? Neither is a winner

Im not looking for a conspiracy. The track has cancelled at least four races including yours. I know Bacon had plans to run, I bet Hewitt and a few others would have shown as well as several of your guys. It really does come down to the amount of fans they expect. I suppose. Unless a sponsor covered that Flo night for LM's Im guessing they didn't do great. |
Re: XTreme Outlaw Races Cancelled
Of course, I'm speculating, Casey. For starters, I would imagine that the KO Motorsports cars would opt for MSCS at Haubstadt; same for BGE Dougherty. But, I'm confident you'd know more than I. Surely, you can put all this speculation to rest by telling us who was confirmed for Atomic. I'm sure you had Leary, Ballou, and Swanson, at the least.
Don't think I'm slamming Xtreme, either- it's nice that someone's filling a hole for sprint car drivers who don't race midget and vice versa. It seems that's the focus of these series' and it's a noble one while still being a decent business proposition. I just don't think there was a hole to fill this weekend. Heck, I'm 2 hours from Atomic, 3 1/4 hours from Haubstadt and my plan was always Haubstadt. |
Cockrum, Bright, Swanson, Westfall, Clouser, Hernandez, Smith, Schudy, Simon, 17GP, Irwin, Nicholson, Russel, possibly Leary, Ballou, Bacon.. I expected to have 28-30 cars. Car count was not a concern in my opinion.
Charles, Atomic and WRG have worked well together for our late model, sprint shows, and the planning for xtreme. I expect that to continue into 2023. |
Re: XTreme Outlaw Races Cancelled
I love Atomic and was planning on going but I must confess that I had wondered what they would get for car count, they had 20 cars there in April for the USAC show and there isn't much of a local contingent to boost the number. The couple of guys that took the wings off in the spring would likely keep it on with the 410's running Saturday as well. At any rate, I would have been there freezing my tail off enjoying the race had it of ran, being from Ohio I try to support any traditional stuff that I can. It seems like it gained a foothold when Waynesfield was going weekly but since then it has tailed off.
