I’m still planning on making the nine hour jaunt to Husets for the USAC Nationals. I’ve not done any research yet but I figured I would get some help from my fellow race fan’s on IOW. Any recommendation for hotels and restaurants close to the track? Maybe a local brewery? Thanks

Two hotels in Brandon SD Holiday Inn Express or Quality Inn both are fine.

Last year fans and racers hung out at 212 Boiling Point Bar and Grill which is mile or so from track or at Tailgator's Tavern which is walking distance from either hotel.

Local Breweries are in Sioux Falls.

If you like to camp away from track Big Sioux State Recreation Area is across Hwy from track about a half mile. It was sold out during race last year.

There’s a Hoseheads post on the WoO show in June which has some ideas for things to do during the day in the area.

Check out Falls Park in Sioux City. Really cool park with several waterfalls. If you’re lucky like we were last year, the Air Force base close by will be doing drills or touch n go’s. Super cool to see the jets fly right over the park. Even without that, our trip to Falls Park was worth it.

I am here for the outlaws this weekend and definitely recommend boiling point 212. Tailgaters is nice also.
Also the track is amazing very friendly staff and hard working.

I don't know if you have checked yet . But for whatever reason hotels in the Sioux Fall Brandon area . Are very expensive sadly between the cost hotel , gas and tickets and food . I will probably have to stay home this year I was really looking forward to it.

PIT CART 6/24/22 7:22 PM

Yes the price of hotels is outrageous.

dsc1600 6/25/22 11:12 PM

Somewhat off topic but Husets announced tonight that next years big WoO show will be 4 days and pay $250k To win the final night.

treecitytornado 6/26/22 4:00 AM

I think he may be better than Dad. That is saying something, because Dad was really good. Great race, and it shows that a track can be wet and still provided good racing.

Maybe, although in later years, i don't think Hoosier made a tire that could survive Jac. Goodyear did.

flagboy55 7/2/22 2:38 PM

Again thanks for the good suggestions. Asking for more advice. My first night stop about half way will be LaCrosse Wisconsin. Anyone have any recommendations , maybe a good brewery or good dinner spot?

Charles Nungester 7/2/22 7:32 PM

Re: Husets

Im suprised it hasn't been brought up yet, But they cut the winners share of both sprints and midgets to 12k and will pay the other 8k back thru the pack Hopefully some more cars take em up on it.

ginblueearth 7/2/22 9:24 PM

Re: Husets

I think Matt Woods is little worried about the car count . That was big concern I had to with the price of diesel and gas . And hotels being outrageous in the Sioux Falls area he's trying to do whatever he can to get the cars to come . Last year they only had in the middle twenties for cars in both classes and I'm thinking it might not be good this year . As I posted before with the price of gas the price of hotels there's no way I can afford it . I live in Blue Earth Mn 125 miles east of Husets 250 round trip with the ticket and gas and eating at home before I left it would cost me around $85 each night that's money I don't have . So we'll have to miss it this year

flagboy55 7/3/22 9:20 PM

Gin, you are spot on on your analysis. I’m going this year at the expense of some other races that I would normally attend. I wanted to go to the inaugural event but circumstances kept me home. I hope this event is better attended this year but the current economic conditions are not particularly conducive to the common man moving freely around the country. At the very least, I’ll be knocking a track off my bucket list with the two best racing series available

Check out Buzzard Billy's great Cajun food in a dive bar atmosphere. Right down town a lot of other cool bars.

Re: Husets

If for some reason some of you are headed out that way today Tuesday afternoon. Be aware of a Derecho storm heading towards Brandon area at 230pm still west of town, Storm has had over 90mph winds and is heading east, south east.

flagboy55 7/5/22 4:12 PM

Thanks for the update. I hope it’s not as serious as it sounds. If I’m not mistaken they just did a bunch of storm damage repairs at the speedway

Charles Nungester 7/5/22 6:11 PM

Re: Husets

Early reports are that the Brandon area was not nearly as hard hit as the one a few weeks ago.

Charles Nungester 7/5/22 7:37 PM

Re: Husets

Storm still raging across lower MINN and Iowa. heads up if you're traveling

TQ29m 7/6/22 12:13 PM

Looks like ft Wayne got it also, didn't effect any racing, but sure made it tough on the residents.

flagboy55 7/6/22 6:18 PM

Just saw on the Twitter that KTJ has elected to stay in Indiana at Gas City and Kokomo to “test and tune” My guess is he would be doing that in South Dakota if it was a local purse only here in Indiana

He must’ve been testing and tuning during Eastern Storm too.

Maybe the travel $$$ doesn’t add up to them this year?

wildman92 7/6/22 7:46 PM

If you believe the conspiracy theory enough, it will come true.

Charles Nungester 7/6/22 7:52 PM

Re: Husets

He spent half a year on the road and probably didn't make a lot of $$ purse wise with All Stars, Stayin close an racing for some $$ makes sense. Getting some laps for Sprint week too.

BrentTFunk 7/6/22 8:12 PM

Re: Husets

Has the car KTJ is driving ever traveled besides Florida? Seems like MSCS based team to me.

chrismattlin 7/6/22 8:20 PM

Re: Husets

Seeing how KTJ's teammate, Carson Garrett, is top 5 in MSCS points, I'm not too surprised they're staying in Indiana for the MSCS races.

One poster (:918::918::22::42:::41:::916::917::915:) is apparently very surprised with this decision..........Sigh........

Doesn't mean he's going to win more money, only means they will spend less!

Maybe some of these west coast cancelations will enable a few teams to head to Husets.

I had a friend who toured with both the Outlaws and All Stars for years. He said he made more money with the Outlaws and kept more running with the All Stars.

I saw that Eddie Tafoya is supposed to be there. A couple more would be awesome. I don't think the CRA has another race scheduled for a month.

bighd0522 7/7/22 5:43 PM

Wonder if it was at a midwest track if it would be supported better? Missouri Illinois area.

Charles Nungester 7/7/22 5:45 PM

Re: Husets

All that show up will be there.

flagboy55 7/8/22 12:11 AM

Just to clear up a few things. Cornerthree, thanks for the Billy Buzzards recommendation. The jambalaya was superb. LaCrosse seems like a neat place. So now it’s conspiracy? I can only hope my opinion turns out to be like the recently accused theorists, because most of them have turned into prophets, but I digress. I’m not sure about the comparison to eastern storm either. So Matt Wood tries to make a Crown Jewel USAC race. In just the Sprint cars, if I’ve read it correctly, one guy could walk away with $32,000. Probably the same thing with the midgets. 3 days at what I’m told is an absolute first class dirt track (I’ll know more tomorrow). Don’t hold me to it but I would bet you a beer and a hotdog that USAC’s schedule came out before MSCS. And if memory serves, the Husets event might have been inked before the full schedule was released. And no one has been able to tell me when the last time they (MSCS) raced at Kokomo, if ever, and when the Darland race paid more than $2000 to win. Ultimately, us Indiana fans are just quite content keeping wingless racing here and as convenient as possible. We would like more spotlight, but only as long as it doesn’t interfere with it shining here. Anyway I’m always trying to promote true sprint car racing, and trying to get it out there to the people. Big events do that.
So stepping down off my soapbox, if any of you happen to be at Husets this weekend look me up. I’ve brought some beers from the best brewery in the world to share with any of you who would appreciate one or two. Looking forward to seeing you

I would hope Robert Bell would be there.
