Indiana Dirt Tracks?? ---- All Of them. QUESTION?

Indiana Dirt Tracks

All Of them. QUESTION?

So, I have been following this Facebook page "Speedway Car Cams" and they are doing t-shirts for each state and they are printing every dirt track on each states t-shirt.
Pretty cool in my opinion to see what they are doing.
I think it would be pretty cool to have a shirt with all Indiana dirt tracks pictured on it.

There are as many closed tracks as what you have listed. I know of six or eight more in my area.

Angola was dirt for many years and Avilla was dirt before it was shuttered.

Do yourself a huge favor. Get on Ebay and buy a copy of Allan Brown's History of the American Speedway you won't regret it. There are many others in Indiana not listed there was Walnut Gardens, Carey's Ranch, a different State Fair track, .....they are all there with brief history.

I hate to tell you but his but I have every printed copy of that book “History Of America’s Speedways” and I’ve meet Alan in person. I loved the National Speedway Directory they made. If you know me by how I have posted here on IOW then you know I’m a diehard race fan. :32:

In my open opinion that is one of the best Motorsports books ever made and printed. The history of racing in North America to me is truly a fascinating one. From board tracks to the high banks to the flat tracks to the small figure 8 tracks like the Indianapolis Speedrome.

They did when they had the Hoosier Thunder Exhibit. It is surprising how many tracks Indiana has had.

Yes

So I'm confused. What you need is right in Alan's book. Undoubtedly a few are missed

Ft Wayne Speedway. 5/8 mile dirt originally, then 1/2 and 1/4 mile dirt tracks added later. using parts of the big track. Opened 1928 or so, closed in the early 60's

Have a friend that raced at Logottee “sp?”Martin Co. Heard a family story about my grandmother racing a powder puff race in Oaktown 1950’s. Also remember talk of my grandfather racing in Patoka.

I specialize in Ohio stuff but I also dabble in surrounding states. There’s literally been hundreds of tracks in Indiana. Same for Ohio. Allan did a great job considering he was covering pretty much all of North America.

But he DID miss a lot. Literally about 50 tracks in Ohio he is missing. I’d guess he’s missing 50-100 in Indiana too.

Problem is, in the 30’s, “junkyard derbies” (jalopy stock cars) and midget races could literally pop up and disappear within a few weeks. Those Tracks were primitive, but they count.

DJlives 2/17/22 8:18 AM

Yes agree. Sometimes I would find a program that showed a track had started earlier than thought and I would pass along. We have been friends 30-35 years

Spooky Hollow Speedway, Salamonia

Re: Indiana Dirt Tracks?? ---- All Of them. QUESTION?

Columbus Speedway, closed in 1958. Just off State Road 7, a little southeast of town.

Seems like Shelby, Decatur and Jefferson Counties all have tracks suitable for TQs.
