Request for Drivers, crew members, and owners.

Thought I’d start a new thread for this request. Friend and longtime IOW and all around Super Fan Jim Georges is going thru a rough time and I thought this could cheer him up.

Visited with Jim today for about a hour and a half. He's been transferred to a long term rehab facility here in Evansville. Spirits are still good, but he's got a long road ahead. I got him a phone installed in the room and the number is 812.421.2523 Unfortunately, he somehow poked a hole in the middle of his tongue and they had to stitch it up today, so the Dr. doesn't want him talking a lot ( maybe they did that on purpose when he was sleeping ). First thing i noticed when I walked in was a pad of paper and he had drawn a sprint car in red ink on it. No wings of course, gotta love that. Give him a few days if you want to call.

If there's any drivers or team members that read this, I think it would be awesome if they could send him a hero card, sticker, can coozie, or if you got a old 2XL shirt getting dusy, I know this would mean a ton to him and raise his spirits. Doesn’t matter if your a 410 sprint, mini sprint, modified, or wings, ect…..He is the Super fan of all Super fans. It would also be great if IOW members could send him a card or letter. Thanks to all that have contacted him already. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Yes, I’m here now. Big thanks to Dave Argabright for the autographed book.

Jim was able to stand up today, twice!! With help of course and for just a brief moment. It’s progress and was great to see.

Dirtfan 10/28/21 10:14 PM

Let's hope there's plenty of pictures & big print in that book.😉

Re: Request for Drivers, crew members, and owners.

Well Jim has changed rooms twice since my last post he is now currently in room 206. He had a set back that required them to take him back to Deaconess, but now he’s back at Select Speciality Hospital. When I get the new number I’ll post it. Planning on a visit Wednesday.

Your package was a big hit! Those are 2 of his favorites, thank you so much. He appreciates the calls and well wishes. IOW members are the best. :6::8: He’s still gonna be here for quite some time, so keep ‘em coming.

This is Chief and I'm typing this for Jim. He would like to say the following;
I really appreciate all the things that everyone is sending. All the stuff really brightens my days and gives me hope. I'm shooting to be back in time for the Shamrock in March. Hope to see you guys, love you all, and take care.

Ann & Kenny Schrader said they would get a card in the mail right away. Give Jim our best! Prayers 🙏 for a speedy recovery.

Re: Request for Drivers, crew members, and owners.

I called Jim last week and do not even know him. I've been seeing this post and thought it would be fun to call him, talk about racing and just try to cheer him up. I had no idea he was a former racer. He said it brightens his day to talk to other friends on the phone or receive things in the mail. Hopefully I'll meet him next spring. He said look for the guy with the cowboy hat on. :)

Thanks so much. It really does cheer him up for sure. He could talk racing 24/7 365 days a year. He literally has been thru hell the last several years. Cancer sucks and so does diabetes.

Re: Request for Drivers, crew members, and owners.

Jim’s new number for his room is 812-777-3033 and he’s still in room 209 at Encompass. Much happier here. They are keeping him busy, getting him to stand. They’ve also been getting him out of bed and letting him sit in a chair finally. He got all his staples removed out of his leg, so he’s happy with that too. Thanks again to all. If you don’t know him, don’t hesitate to call like Grocery Guy. 2 minutes on the phone and you'll think you’ve been friends all your life with him.

Re: Request for Drivers, crew members, and owners.

Well Jim had a setback over the weekend and is back in the Hospital. He was scheduled for a procedure today and I haven't been able to find anything out yet. As soon as I do, I will let everyone know. I drove up to Encompass today and picked up his mail.
Big thanks goes out to Carson Garrett and his crew chief for sending package. They are a true class act. Also I picked up a small priority mail box and a card. I'm not sure if or when he will go back to Encompass, but will post when I find out.
If you have sent something last week please send me a message, so i can let you know if I've got it. If your wanting to send him something, you can send me a private message and I will give you my address and make sure he gets it. I think right now that is the safest option since September he's been a wondering nomadic Cowboy. Words can't express how much this all means to him.

Early Merry Christmas and bless you all

Re: Request for Drivers, crew members, and owners.

This is the first time I have viewed this thread because I thought it was meant primarily for the people stated in the title. I didn't know Jim had been going through all of this. He called me a few weeks ago while I was out shopping and we talked for quite awhile.
Sorry I am so late in viewing it.

During dialysis yesterday, Jim passed out 3 times and was complaining of chest pain. He is back at Deaconess Midtown for observation. Hopefully for not to long.

ronmil 1/5/22 10:41 PM

Any news on Jim?

Wish I had better news. Jim has decided to stop dialysis. He’s tired of all the pain and issues he’s been going thru. Probably has a week left. He’s heavily medicated and resting. This is the toughest post I’ve ever made. Thanks to all that supported him and made his day brighter.

You'll always be with us here, Jim. You have previously provided me strength when I was maybe not as strong as I could be. It has been my honor to have met you the one time I did at Kokomo.

Re: Request for Drivers, crew members, and owners.

I never had the opportunity to meet Jim but I'm sorry for the loss all of his friends and family will endure. Several years ago my Mom had to make the same decision and stop dialysis as it had just become to much to bear. I don't think anyone can imagine the toll it takes unless you or a loved one has been through it. Godspeed.

ronmil 1/6/22 5:38 PM

I’m so sorry to read this. Jim and I attended quite a few races together and had a lot of entertaining conversations on our road trips. He was very knowledgeable and interesting.
I will always remember his exclamation when I introduced him to midgets at Belle-Clair.
He simply said, “Oooo s—t”.
I will miss you and all the racing stories you shared with me.
God Bless You, my friend
