Re: USAC Sprint 2009

Good to see Calistoga back on the schedule, question is, will this be a true "National" event this time or just the western sprints again?

Well after looking at the other two series schedules I have answered my own question, with the midgets at Sun Prarie on the 5th and Silver Crown running on the 6th I would assume that Calistoga is just a western deal again. Bummer

Re: USAC Sprint 2009

Actually a pretty decent schedule other than a few things. Still not sure why they made another west coast swing in February as I can't imagine any team making any money on the trip. Why not just leave it a west coat USAC/CRA show and leave it up to the teams if they want to go. Two trips to Iowa in two weeks. Pretty poor planning in my book. Heck at least the second trip there is two shows. They really need another show to go with the Newton show. Kind of disappointed the Eldora shows continue to get fewer and fewer each year. The two day show is cool in April but why not another stand alone show in the summer. IMO they need to scrap the triple crown idea and schedule more shows. Still a pretty light schedule in August and September. Overall it is a decent schedule.

Hasn't the Easter weekend doubleheader usually been a WOO show? Does this mean they are out or will they run one night with USAC?

I am really very suprised to see no Brownstown on the schedule. I thought for sure after the 08 USAC race Brownstown would have a date again.

I am not bashing or trying to cause a pissing match, but why for sprint week did they do Lawrenceburg on Friday and Gas City on Saturday? That is opposite of their regular nights of racing. I am also disappointed in no Brownstown show.

JEE-ZUS! Come on already with the highway pounding during sprintweek. Terre Haute on Wednesday, then ALL the way up to Kamp on Thursday, then ALL the way BACK down to Bloomington on Friday? Does anyone care about logistics? How about being efficient? A huge WASTE of time on the scheduling! I can't imagine that Kamp and Terre Haute would mind if they flip-flopped nights near the end of the week. I'll book a room in Terre Haute and stay there on Thursday night and let you have the Kamp "dustbowl" to yourselves. An outdoor pool and some rest and relaxation is far cheaper than driving 400 miles because USAC can't tell North from South!!! Otherwise, I love it! Can't wait for 2009!

Kinda what I was thinking. It's a good schedule, but you'd think logistics would matter more. Especially if gas prices are high again next summer.

Overall, looks good though and has the beginnings of a truly national schedule.

Two things here---- First of all BUMP this THREAD.
And, can I pick my own rank? I mean, who gets to tell me I'm a hot lapper or a mud packer or maybe even a waffle belly, HA! I won't be satisfied until I WIN HOT LAPS!!!!
I'm going to continue posting until my rank is: HOT LAP WINNER...........because that's where it pays the best!

This was done as a favor to travelers, fans and teams. We did not want to race Gas City Friday, then drive all the way south to Lawrenceburg, then back north to Kokomo. I would love to have Saturday, but it made more sense for the teams and fans to go that route. Let me know if i am missing something.
Thanks, Dave

It is great that you and Leroy can get this accomplished. What happened to the second week though.:O: Terre Haute to Kamp to Bloomington?

It's a good schedule, but for selfish reasons I'd like to see at least one race in Illinois. I wish the race in Joliet would have happened last year. A sprint race at Granite City would be good too. Maybe there will be some additions.

glad to see sprintcars at kalamazoo. the winged cars are getting played out. i went there in september and tested my chalk. it was lots more fun without a wing than with a wing. cant wait. 20 mins from home. for those that have never seen this track it the jem of west michigan. i was in a winged show there that ran 30 laps in 6mins and 8 secs. :greenflag: now i need some usac pavement takeoff tires.

I agree, we will not waste our time or money sitting through another dust storm. Suprised to see Kamp on the schedule again after one car flipped into the pits and another almost ending up in the grandstand. The track is not set up for safe sprint car racing. Great to see THAT get a date for ISW.:thumb:thumb

Good schedule, but please dump Kamp and plug in Brownstown. It took 2 weeks for my lungs to clean out the last time I will ever go there. That place is a dust bowl straight out of the 1930's.

As for the Burg on Friday. Thanks Dave, it is nice to see a promoter thinking odf the fans . What is really nice to see is the promoters working together. Nice to know that in Indiana the promoters aren't trying to out do each other. A tip of the hat to everyone involved.

For the last time: Brownstown cannot do a Sprint week date because of the Jackson County Fair.

the 08 jackson county fair ran from july 20th - 28th how would a sprintweek date conflict with it if they ran a date the first week? and i was just talking about a usac date anytime not just sprintweek

Looks pretty good. Glad to see so many half miles

I will skip Kamp this year, two years of eating dust is enough for me. Logistics make no sense, which is typical. Wonder if they are going to run against the Joe James/Pat O'Connor race again this year? (this is one of my favorite races and last year it was a stock car fest)

I am torn about Kamp. Yeah, the dust and the rocks were a pain, but I have to say that I probably got some of my best pictures there. And the heat race with Levi sliding his way to the front was one of the best heat races of Sprint Week.

as far as brownstown goes i posted the question lastnight on brownstown's website why no usac sprints in 09 and tim keithly (the promoter) said that the were told if the ran a regular show in 08 that they would get a sprintweek show in 09 and as he stated in the reply they had a change in management and didnt get a sprintweek show so they decided to sit out 09 and see what happens..you can go to www.brownstownspeedway.com and see the reply if you like

Sounds like Brownstown wants to jump right in and cash in on what Kokomo, Bloomington, Gas City et al. have built.

Granted Kamp did the same thing but it would have been nice if Brownstown showed some support for USAC and maybe they would have been rewarded. He obviously had the fan support.

Interesting, change of management, doesn't the fair board own that track? Here is a funny one, maybe the change was someone that posts on here not announcing there anymore:eek: No offense meant CN.

I agree its a decent schedule, I will attend the first week, but I think I will pass on the second week. I am from Illinois and I am a supporter of USAC, I just wish they would throw me a bone once in a while and give me a race in IL. I won't attend the second week because the logistics are nuts , and my lungs haven't healed from Kamp.
